He doesn’t wear watches anymore so he has gifted them to me for certain milestones. He still has a 1990s blue two tone sub in his safe.

I haven’t really had the money to support this hobby until this year but find it hard to justify spending a lot on a watch when I could put it towards investments.

I still always have the watch itch though. I really want a blue face watch and will likely splurge later this year but not much more than 5k. I love the Nomos worldtimer and have seen a few on watchrecon for 3k.

Was having my morning coffee going through the chrono24 app looking at the 50+ variations of the datejust, and this post popped up again in my head for some reason. Then i started to replay the situation in my head.

Imagine being a normal law abiding guy. Great 6figure or 7 figure job. Somewhat seasoned watch collector but there's a solid 3 rolexes you're still aspiring to get.

THEN your city goes to absolute chit, "the system" as we know it has collapsed and it's every man for himself. The rolex store down the street from you just gets destroyed, adrenaline grips you as you mask up and go snag 2 boxes. Heart pumping, you make your way through the yelling and glass shattering noises. You run out of the store, turn into an alley and duck behind a dumpster clenching two rolex boxes you managed to snag before getting shot.

This is a high stree location in new york, miami, or los angeles. Heart POUNDING as you anticipate what exclusive model you hold in your hands: Yellow Gold Champagne dial sky dweller? Platinum Daytona with Baguette Diamonds?

no shame in that mane. outside of the 4 or 5 guys in here with the deep rolex/a lange collections. I think the rest of us in that 120k to 220k salary range are struggling with the same thing. we're doing well but still trying to "make it". so you're playing the balancing act of wanting to build a watch collection WHILE building wealth. Best way to look at it though is that if you buy smart, it's less like lighting money on fire, and more like temporarily parking money.

Maybe that's what im thinking of. I think thats what my AD had when i first looked. Was like "wtf is that atrocity?"

yo i'm still not over that chit above. imagine being at a bar, some real watch guy recognizes the general silhouette from afar (which i've done before up to like 30 yards), guy comes over to compliment you on your Royal Oak, just to get close and see some chit that says "VALUCHI" on it.

I'm also noticing they swagger jacked the Rolex Milgaus running second hand. Went to their kickstarter page and it's a japanese miyota movement. i can't even deal











To be fair, i don't hate on cheapie watches just own it you know? That's why I have the utmost respect for guys that rock seikos, casios, timex etc. All those brands have never tried to be anything they aren't. Just reliable watches, it's just these garbo throwaway kickstarter/IG watch brands that try to recreate AP, JLC, Rolex designs with dog chit internals that irk me.

I had to go to their site to see for myself when he posted it. To me it looked like a gold watch and perpetual calendar that they designed in house (pretty sure AP designed that chit), perpetual calendar, down to earth prices. So I ask myself what is considered a down to earth price for a perpetual calendar…is this a Chinese perpetual for $10,000?

I go to their site and see: quartz movement, rose gold steel (wut lmao), mineral crystal, milguass hand etc. I already knew it was trash because of the last watches zheng posted, but still had to verify. I don't mean to be harsh zhengterry, but please read the very first post in this thread.

I know there are bonafide collectors out there that will get every model, but the YM and deep sea just look like less aesthetic submariners to my eye. I guess the YM comes in unique color configurations but in my head they're all the same watch (type/feel) with the sub being the most refined.

Also the YM2 complication is just stupid, impressive, but stupid. 10 minute countdown that requires you to do the MOST to set it up. Meanwhile i can do the same thing with a quick turn of my 60min bezel. When I take into the account the doodoo proportions of the deep sea and YM2, then consider everybody and their mum has a submariner… the DJ41 and SkyDweller are truly my only rolex aspirations… and maybe the CHNR, the Rootbeer color scheme is pretty sick.

Just EL oh EL if "watchbox + watch name" in youtube isn't the very first search you do when getting more info on a particular watch. Tim Mosso is the GOAT.
That guy is one of the most well spoken and ridiculously knowledgeable people in the industry. Anytime a watch catches my interest, I know there’s a good chance Tim has already posted a full review of it on watchbox. It’s also a nice bonus that he has poverty wrists like mine, so I get a good impression of how a watch would fit me. My other favorite resource is Watchfinder & Co. Really well made videos.

What's interesting about that is that is that they wanted to make the Submariner more luxurious and refined so they made the YM design. They ended up releasing it as a separate model instead of making it the new Sub. In it's current form it's basically a Sub, but it's thinner, and has more contoured and less blocky lugs.

went out for cocktails. came back to my balcony and was laying down drinking prosecco with my girl when suddenly my watch just came undone. I thought i undid the buckle but nope, the fuking nubuck legit just tore off. What in the actual fuk? I bought this chit brand new from the AD in FOOKING january bruv.

Have i been wearing it a little tight? yeah. Was i putting a lot of pressure on the strap when i was wearing the watch while plowing sl00ts in the uk? also yes, but 6 months of wear before tearing? fake and ghey.
