There are several that have bundles. Is the bundled stuff Amazon does just a lot of junk they throw in? I noticed some are some backpacks that don't look built for cameras, some have tripods (I already have 1 don't need).

Thanks and the pics ITT are great !
t6i is a great starter camera, the free stuff i mean its free… why decline it? lol that backpack is actually quite nice for trips and traveling, I own one and I like it.

personally owned a t3 for 2 years and served me well but finally moved up to a full frame and the transition was smooth, get a feel for the camera learn its ins and outs. Explore out of your comfort zone into different types of photography, push the boundaries to say it easier.

if your budget is lower probably the t5i will suit you well, worst case you can use some of the money you saved for some extra lenses if need be.

T4i, T5i, T6i are all solid choices. I don't know the differences between them as far as the sensor goes (don't keep up with the Rebel line, but honestly I doubt there's much of a difference), but you'd be well off with any choice. The most important thing is the lens choice. The kit lens that comes with it is decent, highly underrated, you can definitely get some great shots with it. Once you upgrade the lens though, you'll really see the potential of using even a entry level camera body.

Well said. Entry level cameras these days are definitely capable of professional results. The limiting factor is glass.

You can't make an 18-55 @ 55mm and f/5.6 look like a 50 or 85 1.2L or even the cheaper 1.8s. If you want that shallow DOF look in your portraits and to shoot in soft light at higher ISO, it's not going to happen with the kit lens. Of course you can still take great shots but it requires a different approach.

Aside from buying a fast prime, the best piece of gear someone with an entry level camera can add to their kit is a speedlight for off-camera lighting. Isolate the subject with light rather than DOF.

Love this shot. Did you use and filters to get the motion effect on the water and sky? ND?[/QUOTE

i use http://www.amazon.com/ND1000-Filter-.../dp/B00GMXD9E8 when its still very bright. I can shoot 30 sec exposures at f10. although i rarely need 10 stops of reduction.

http://www.amazon.com/Tiffen-77VND-V...ct_top?ie=UTF8

going to get that^^ so i dont have to carry around 5 filters.

Probably around $900. Radio system is integrated and will support the X1 controller which costs only $40 and has an LCD. There will be a Bowens mount version. AC adapter available in March. They're also working on a system for Sony.

The Profoto B1 is $2100. Superior build quality no doubt and the Air remote is extremely well laid out (so it should be for $400) but it puts out 100Ws less and only 220 full power flashes per charge (spare batteries cost $260). Both have a 9 stop range.

X, Capture One Pro is $15 USD/month by subscription.

It supports 10 local adjustment layers with masks, has the most powerful color editing tools, and in my opinion is a superior RAW converter to Lightroom. If you want to shoot tethered then there is no contest.

Do you need Photoshop? It ultimately comes down to whether you're into producing photographs or digital art. For extensive retouching it's essential.

I've always enjoyed capturing images but never enjoyed the editing process where I'd be exporting to 16-bit TIFF and needing other software like PS for simple tasks. Now I enjoy it because aside from stitching panos I can stay in RAW.

thanks man! i am just looking for a program that will allow me to make my photos and make them "pop". i dont need anything on a high-end professional level, just an "enthusiast" level program. will look into capture one

also, any of you brahs know a good video editing software? as user friendly as possible because i only need a trial of it to make a video for my senior project.

Lightroom is probably your best bet. If you like slapping presets on images then there is a lot of free stuff out there for LR.

I figured I'd mention one of the alternatives because it's what I prefer using myself and because I do not like Adobe or its business model.

One of my favorite things about Capture One Pro is the ability to completely customize the workspace. Here's mine.

Are you using matrix metering? It's fine in a lot of situations but it's still easily fooled. In this case it probably did the right thing and gave you an exposure for 95% of the scene but it's that 5% that gets clipped that will bother you later.

The D810 has a "highlight-weighted" metering mode which would give priority to what is clipping but since nothing is moving you can just as easily use spot metering to achieve the same result.

Here's how to use it. Spot meter the brightest area of the frame like that peak, ideally using a longer lens to make the spot more precise. Now open up a couple of stops from there for your final exposure since it's always going to expose whatever you point it at as middle gray, which of course it isn't — it's a highlight. You could even push that to 3 stops if you need as much shadow detail as possible.

The biggest thing is always metering everything. It's easy to get lazy and say "Close Enough" but if you dont have the right balance, it's hard as hell to bring it back in a natural way. I underexpose the background by anywhere between 1-2 stops depending on the scene or mood I'm going for and meter flash at perfect exposure.

I really felt like I turned the corner once I decided to keep it simple. I used to roll out w/ 2 Einsteins and a Speedlight for rimlight, but that **** is so unnecessary and just leads to overthinking EVERYTHING. Just one light in a complimentary position to the sun and a reflector is all you need.

Just one light in a complimentary position to the sun and a reflector is all you need.
ok thanks NinjaKix, do you use matrix metering for the background? then -1 / -2 ev (i normally just use -1ev)

ive been using a Godox es600 for outside stuff, but having to use a variable ND filter to stay under the 1/200 shutter sync rules out using the meter for the strobe.

this leaves me metering the strobe power by whats on the tiny screen & the histogram (not ideal)

do you use high speed sync for overpowering the sun?

anyway thanks again heres a couple examples of my latest work.. i am pretty happy with:
