Agreed. Jimmy has a lot to prove next year and if he can play at a top 10 level, which he did for a lot of 2019, then I don't see why the 49ers wouldn't be contenders.
I LOL at people thinking Kyle isn't the answer at coach. It literally took Any Reid 21 seasons to win the super bowl. 13 times he was knocked out of the playoffs and 1 Super Bow loss. I think he will be ok,

I do agree that anyone questioning Kyle is caught up in the moment. If that game is called clean this may be a moot point. At no point in his tenure as 49ers HC did the team look like they didn't want to play for him, regardless of how well we were playing that season.
I don't see that changing moving forward. In a game so heavily favored for offenses having a brilliant offensive mind is definitely not something to be upset with.
We just have to play better.

The delusion here is real. The fraudy niners are going to finish 9-7 at best and if they’re lucky sneak into the playoffs and get bounced in the wild card round. The A’s, Sharks, Giants, and Warriors all have better chances of winning a championship first. Better change your jersey.

All it takes is Mookie Betts, Steph Curry, and Joe Burrow all sitting in the same car in order for one drunk driver to make the world a significantly better place.

After watching some of the film analysis, I've shifted the blame more from Shanny to Jimmy. The opportunities were there for Jimmy to totally destroy the Chiefs, but he just didn't hit them. My big complaint with Shanny would be that he couldn't sense that his QB was losing it; probably stuck with the attack too long in the 4th. Kittle should've had a MONSTER game.
As for the Jimmy film breakdowns that's for him and Kyle to look over. People can review the film and see someone open but we don't see what the QB view on the play is.
I talked about it earlier I think the picks Jimmy threw this year over the middle to linebackers affected some of his decisions on those throws.
The one mentioned where he throws to the slot on 3rd and 2 and we get stopped vs going to Kittle is a spot where I'd like to see Jimmy grow from and where using his eyes to open things up would be a big asset. The linebacker is in the area of Kittle but once Jimmy commits to the slot throw he moves in and it leaves Kittle wide open.
Earlier in similar situations he went to Kittle and it cost us. I think he played it too safe there but obviously we have no idea. Kyle and Jimmy know the design, who the first read was and whether or not the decision was a good one(doesn't look like it but if he felt there was risk of it getting picked by throwing to Kittle off the snap then it makes sense)
End of the day I still think what killed us were those Chris Jonees batted passes and that's partly on Jimmy but mostly on our OL. He's their biggest threat and it's a must that the OLmen get their hands in the chest of the DLMan and make sure he can't get up to knock the ball down.

49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo not shying away from Super Bowl criticism
By Jennifer Lee Chan February 05, 2020 11:13 AM
SANTA CLARA — Jimmy Garoppolo doesn’t need to hear the outside criticism of his play in Super Bowl LIV, because he is his own toughest critic.
The even-keeled 49ers quarterback gave everyone a small glimpse of his mentality regarding the fourth-quarter collapse that kept the 49ers from winning their sixth Lombardi trophy in a 31-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

So is our capspace going to be spent re-signing/extending players, or do we have room to maybe sign a vet?

Still haven't really gotten over the fact that we squandered our chances at a SB ring and were in a prime position to win one. So many emotions. Losing the Harbowl SB and this one has been such ****. That said this year and that year were much better than what we've seen for so many other years and I'd take those types of season over the ****ty ones any day. Still doesn't make the loss any easier. I keep telling myself to move on and at the same time keep dwelling on WTF went wrong. Gonna try and move my thoughts and this thread to next year…
I think this team will have no problem contending next year. I think KS and Jimmy will help take next steps as coach and QB and that we will see progress from Jimmy. I think Deebo will continue to grow and Hurd will be a huge addition, as will getting Trent Taylor back. Kittle gonna Kittle. Now what do we do with Sanders, Bourne, Pettis and Richie James. Who do we keep there, move on from, go after or draft at WR? What about RB. I'm happy to go into the year with one of Coleman or Jet, and then Mostert, Breida, and Wilson. Juscyzyk will be around and I think we will do ok with Dwelley at TE and do we keep Toilolo or go somewhere else for more depth there. OL needs to be addressed based on Staley staying or leaving (please stay Joe) and what do we do at LG, C, and RG all of which were solid this year but could use some upgrades in pass pro. What is Richburg contract status and how does his injury affect his chances of returning. Do we keep Tomlinson and Person around or use Skule, Brunskill, Coleman and go younger there. OL will be a key thing to watch and see what we do there.
On defense I think they gotta try and keep as many guys as possible while still upgrading. I'd only bring back Ward and Ford if they take team friendly deals/restructure. Signing Ford to 5 years he needs to play more during the year and do more in key games (didn't see him flash at all much in the SB). I'd say they need to talk to him about restructuring and do a deal heavily based on him actually playing. When healthy he's a beast but he wasn't healthy. Let's just hope he can get right this offseason via whatever is needed and be on the field all year. I'm all for resigning/tagging Armstead and Blair. We need DJ Jones and Jullian Taylor back healthy and Blair too. That would be key for the DL. TBH I think Givens will take big strides forward and be a threat next year and solid piece. Bosa gonna Bosa next year. What do we do with Solomon Thomas? Hopefully Kwon can get back to 100% and him Warner and Greenlaw will be good. We need to make sure we resign Mosely, and figure out whats the plan moving forward with Sherm and Spoon (one older and one inconsistent).
I think the nice thing is we have some key decisions to make but the ability to make moves in ways that will either help or not really hurt the team. I know we don't have much draft picks but we can move back, or perhaps trade a guy or two and pick up some picks. Lynch and Shanahan will know what they want to address and I have faith in their drafting abilities based on what they have shown so far. Along with that I know players will be trying to come play with our team which is great. What are y'all thoughts on offseason moves and what you want to see from this team going forward personnel wise and in general.

Wonder if we move Armstead or Pettis. Lack of draft picks this year is an issue but we have done a good job picking in the late rounds and signing UDFAs.
Overall if we can keep our big FAs(possible if they are not looking to move on for bigger deals in favor of making another run) then just by getting healthy we’re improving.
We’d be getting Trent Taylor, Jalen Hurd, Richburg, DJ Jones, Julian Taylor, Damontre Moore back to add to the SB roster.
And then there would be the draft. If we can retain Ward, Armstead and Sanders it gives us options despite lack of draft picks. It may make sense to go WR at 31 unless we can move back to pick up a 3rd rounder but a speed WR to develop into a potential #1 would be good. Can probably find a starting WR, IOL at that pick but tougher to find a starting corner at that pick. Certainly not one who would make a big impact right away.

We were doing a good job of it and just didn’t finish.
As I said I don’t think we go heavy in FA outside of trying to re-up our own guys and it makes sense. Strong locker room, strong team. Let’s try and retain who we can and hope these guys want to stick around vs chasing money.
Draft will lack a lot of pop due to missing picks and low pick spots so we have to try to hit home runs. If we can find one starter in this draft it’s a win IMO.
I’d love to see us find a starter at RG to get rid of Person or at least push him to a backup role and bring in a speedy WR with potential to be #1 but we may opt to see what we can do with our group.
Look forward to combine now.

I see reports like this again, I'll just lock the thread. Laying it out there now so you'll know who to blame.

SF49ers has reported a post with the comment:
"If he were doing this in a chiefs thread, you?d perma him you fukn pussy."
Mods don't need to waste time with petty arguments that don't break the rules, nor do we need insults from people who get so triggered by comments in a sports thread.
I see reports like this again, I'll just lock the thread. Laying it out there now so you'll know who to blame.

Without an elite qb you aren't guaranteed another SB shot or even contention. I think that's what hurts just right now; next year could go anywhere. Jimmy has to be the guy or we're screwed…easily could be the next JAX. Blegh, this loss just sucks.

I tend to ignore the troll posts and just stay away from posting in the misc, especially when trolling is in full effect like post SB loss. I definitely don't appreciate them coming in here as it takes away from the actual conversation but it is what it is. The most hilarious thing is that metro guy gloating in our loss when since the seattle game, the vikings game, and the packers game he's been predicting us to lose.
As for QB I think people are seriously looking at this the wrong way. I don't know if its the media narrative or what but jesus they have to be realistic about the situation. Great QB's don't grow on trees and even a guy like Mahomes is the upper level of the league and he had a **** game.
People have to realize when you have a QB that is good enough to get the job done you have to keep them around. Is Jimmy G gonna be the GOAT, probably not but look at his record, his overall playing career, he's coming off an ACL, and he played on an offense that was very banged up for much of the year. That being said we also don't have any exceptional WR's our best one this year was a damn rookie.
Jimmy has his limitations, and areas to improve. Sounds to me like he's going to work on those areas and then we see what happens next year. It's not like someone better is just gonna walk through the doors and be like hey guys your gonna win the SB if I'm here for sure so let's do this. Jimmy provides a lot of value for what he is right now even with his limitations, if other guys could do the same on our team so what, we already have what we need then, asking him to be Brees, or Brady in basically year 2 isn't gonna happen. He needs to continue to improve and we'll be good. Finding a good QB isn't easy and people who saying to get rid of him are being irrational.
If Jimmy can even get us 1 or 2 rings isn't that what we're looking for. Wanting more is great, expecting it is another story. Look at all the QB's out there that have won the SB and I'd say Jimmy is capable even now of getting it done, he didn't this last time and I don't think that solely lies on his shoulders. Did he play his best, no but we were still right there to be able to win one, if he plays slightly better we probably do, same could be said for a number of players or just the team as a whole, coaching too.

Just wanted to respond to resident conspiracy theorists that somehow this game was rigged.
The "hold" on Bosa looks like a hold when you pause it at the right time. Now try watching the play and see that there was not a hold. Hence, the reason they didn't call it.

The late hit on Jimmy G out of bounds, sorry. Wrong again.

The offsides by kpassagnon, the guard moved first and they didn't call false start.

Yes Mahomes as hit in the face and not called either. Bourne wasn't called for face mask was he was clearly gripping Ward's facemask on the 49ers scoring drive in the 3rd quarter. Ford lined up offsides AGAIN and wasn't called. There were inconsistencies against both teams.

That hold on Bosa was obvious at the time and nothing has changed….try posting the FULL play up to the point where Mahomes throws the ball.
The late hit on Jimmy just looked bad. When I rewatched it, he does get hit inbounds.
But this one…pretty clear hit to the head with the helmet. No call. Play comes on 3rd down when the 49ers still have the lead. 49ers end up punting after that play.
49ers didn't lose this game because of the refs and they still had their chances to win the game and didn't get it done but if either of those clear cut calls are made it's very likely 49ers walk away with the W.
