Depends on the brand.

For my longines hydroconquest, i basically asked if there was a cash discount. They gave me like $250 off a $1700 watch i believe. For most others, eh.

Omega aqua terra. So a $5700 watch. Even a 15% discount like that would be nice. But you see them used for like 3k-3500

Always ask for a discount. Stainless Rolex, Patek, AP, forget about it. Pretty much anything else is game. Something like Omega, I'd shoot for at least 20%. Go in person; they don't like quoting prices over the phone.

So i finally put something on my wrist that isn’t a watch. I sort of put it together based on random pieces from wristbands.

Hooks from Hermès

https://cjluxury.com/products/copy-o...-hook-bracelet

Center piece from a William Henry dinosaur fossil bracelet that broke years ago (long story).

https://www.tribalhollywood.com/prod...hoCCzkQAvD_BwE

I’m usually no fan of excess stuff on a man, but I kinda like it brahs

What do you say misc wristwatch crew? Yay or nay?

Lol, I was expecting that. It’s more of an “occasional/night out at a rock concert” thing for me. Obviously I won’t be wearing it into the office.

idk I've never been crazy about bracelets. I could see it looking cool in like a dark bar or somewhere like that. I have this David Urman one I got a few years ago as a gift, but don't think I've ever wore it out. Maybe I should..

Wear it. Honestly, I already knew what I would do-wear it. This post was made for amusement. I’ve found that whether or not something “works” is often more dependent on you than it is on the item in question (within reason).

Example:

Looks a bit ridiculous

Spoiler!

^Looks fine by me

A lot of whether or not something works depends on who you are and how you make it work.
Reminds me of one of my favorite articles on the subject.

Has anyone ever sold to an online retailer?

Im looking to sell my Seamaster Aqua Terra and wanting to upgrade to an Air King, Explorer or Speedmaster. The one place I have been looking at is Bobs watches. They seem to be a legit operation. Was thinking about sending in my info and getting an estimate on what I could get for it. Im not really that motivated to sell to an individual. I don't have boxes or papers for the watch but also don't have a ton of money in it, so wouldn't be looking to get a crazy amount for it. Any other places I should look to sell?

Careful. The Explorer (1) is the only watch of those 3 that would be as versatile as your Aqua Terra. I can tell you from first hand experience it's a sucky situation going to a nicer restaurant, or a business meeting and your only nice watch is some sporty, loud ass thing.

If it were My money i'd be looking at the oyster perpetual, or explorer 1 if I was replacing an aqua terra in that price point. But hey if you rarely do fancy stuff, fuk it, buy what you want.

yeah tour.billons are dumb as fuk. technology was invented for pocket watches that sat vertically in the pocket to prevent certain parts of the mechanics wearingdown unevenly or some chit.

to play devil's advocate though, one can make the argument that watches in general are dumb as fuk because we can all just look down at our iphones for the time *shrug*

i know from my experience, Omega you can get 20 to 25% off easy, and not nec need to spend cash. i called a guy and told him watch i wanted and what i wanted to pay (only was 20% off)….he said he would work with me so i told him i would come in saturday. Saturday comes and a girl from the store calls me early in the am and says "hey we have an omega special today, 25% off". guessing they just wanted to make sure i came in.

Just ordered a used excellent condition “skyfall” edition omega aqua terra with box and papers. After taxes came out to right at 4k.

Hope I don’t regret it later on! But looks like a beautiful watch. And always been a huge James Bond fan so kind of cool to have the one he wore in the movie.

Went to that that restaurant with the watch guy owner again. Dude hit me with some new game. Unbeknownst to me, Tudor released the Black Bay 58 with a blue bezel and blue dial and he picked up 1 of the 3 available in our city evidently. He was cool enough to let me try it on.

The shade of blue wasn't to my liking but it was my first time trying on a BB58 and now i TOTALLY get the hype behind the watch. Way thinner than the rest of the BB's and it's just perfect proportionately. I was genuinely surprised

Also chatted to him about what he thinks rolex will be releasing September 1st and he said "a friend" suspects a couple new datejust configurations. He keeps trying to tell me that the fluted bezel is the only way to go on a datejust, and if i'm going to go smooth bezel i may as well get the oyster perpetual in a white dial which he think is a perfect watch and i'd save 3k. Again though, if i'm gonna go that far i may as well save another 3k, and pick up an aqua terra. Definitely gonna be one of those purchases that comes down to seeing them all side by side and on wrist.

good job dave man. James bond associations aside, I do think that's the best configuration of the aqua terra. date window at 3 ocklock, vertical "teak deck" dial as opposed to the horizontal newer ones. Perfect watch, think you'll love it.

That seamaster is a stunning watch

Cheapie watch I bought for work. I wore my good watch a couple times but I didn't feel comfortable that it wouldn't get seriously damaged.

Seiko V SNZG13. About as cheap as you can get for a reliable automatic outside of Orient.

Honest opinion-DJ fluted + jubilee is my favorite configuration. I let this one go a while back, and I regret it lately. I’ll probably end up buying another someday.

I've liked the blue/stick/fluted/jubilee DJ more and more as i see them. When i was in my AD a few weeks ago looking, they had a non-fluted bezel one and was shocked how much i liked it. If it were fluted, i'd be in trouble.

I've already accepted the fact that this is going to be an in person decision for me. From pictures, my mind is telling i want something a touch more chill so the jubilee and smooth bezel combination should be a homerun for what I want out of my next watch… in theory. But everyone and their nan tells me "iF u DonT gO fLuTed BeZeL yOu MaY aS WeLl gEt the OysTEr PeRPetuAL"

Then I'm like who was date function? Who was Jubilee bracelet? But I dunno, everyone who has said that makes a lot more money than me and has handled way more rolexes than I have. December/January will be an interesting month. The fluted config pushes the watch into BLNR/BLRO money (msrp of course). But then you're playing the "we'll put you on the list" game. Then that also would kill the purpose of what i want my second watch to be, which is something that cane be dressy as well as casual. At this point in the game, I don't know wtf i'll be walking out with.

Agreed on all counts. I'd love a BLNR, but also know it's not very….dressy? Moving to VA saturday and think im going to see if i can peek my head into a couple of AD's along the way and make friends. Maybe ill win the lottery.

Should be a couple from Upstate NY to Southeastern VA.
