I didn't know you were looking to get something dressy for your next piece. I just know i definitely was because the tudor bronze is full blown sporty. Not AS silly as my Oris Chronograph when worn with a dress shirt, but not far.

I can't(won't) justify dropping 8k+ on full blown dress watch like the glashutte panomatic lunar or a lange saxonia, since i don't dress up enough.

So yeah the DJ41 smooth bezel/jubileee bracelet was supposed to be my next acquisition that i can easily wear with jeans and a tee but also looked appropriate for suit and tie situations too. I could probably make an argument for my other grail piece, the JLC Reverso GMT, but i'm in desperate need of a steel bracelet watch at this point. All my chit is leather and it's kinda annoying.

Thanks guys. I agree. I love the blue. I'm glad I ended up going with this one instead of the newer models with the horizontal lines, and the date at 6 o'clock.

Had to have a couple of links taken out, and the fit is perfect now. Made me realize that my submariner was to loose on the wrist. So now I gotta take it and have another link removed.

I'm not a fan of vintage (or watches under $2000 for that matter), but to offer something constructive I like the vintage cartier tanks as a "fashion accessory" of sorts.

I don't wear bracelets, but if i did that would be a good watch to pair one with. Also the "must de cartier" versions can be found for $900 to $3000.

Hit up Kabananga (OP of this thread). He's a vintage watch dealer and should be able to get you sorted.

I like that one a lot. I also like the black dark side of the moon watch. I think if I got another one I’d either go with one of those, or get a stainless submariner like the hulk. But only if I could get one for around retail. Which doesn’t seem likely.

https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/w...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

That one in particular looks sick to me.

I was fortunate enough to try both the grey and dark side on side by side. I was sold on the dark side from photos, but in person the ceramic looks like plastic. Hated it to be honest. The grey side on the other hand actually looked completely like polished and brushed steel. Really liked it. When I got the speckled platinum dial in the sun, and saw the subsequent lume shot I was absolutely sold that it was one of my future must havs.

However, I'm currently sitting with a 43mm tank of a watch on leather. I would LOVE something more chic/slick on steel (hence the constant harping on DJ41), but i can't seem to shake the pull to the grey side.

That DJ41 is beautiful. From what I've read Rolex is supposed to release their upcoming lineup on September 1st. Will be interesting to see what they show. Even though I can't afford another one right now anyways..

I heard that too, and to that point I was told that there would be some new datejust configurations coming out. Will be interesting indeed.

Visited the first AD here in VA. Lady said they had…wait for it…75 people…on the list for a blue/black GMT. I just laughed inside and said ok. She took my name down but i did tell her i would also like a DJ41 in Jubilee/Blue/Stick/Fluted combo. She sort of was surprised i wanted a Jubilee. Still have another dealer to visit. Gave me a solid compliment on the AK and said theyve suddenly become very popular (sure they have….). Not even sure if she wrote down the BLNR on my info form.

I’d love that GMT as well.

As someone not familiar with how stock works on these things how come they are so hard to get? Do they just make fewer of them compared to the two tone submariners and the standard black and stainless sub?

Or do they make a similar amount and they’re just that much more popular? If I wanted one do I just go to an AD and have em put me on a list? Would that guarantee me one eventually?

I would have stopped her right there, said "thank you for your time" and walked out. God bless you for having the patience to play the "hot-rollie" game. Thank god the DJ seems to be an undesirable piece.

Funny, I bought my hulk back when they were sitting in the case, and passed on a BLNR sitting in the case and suggested my friend buy it, which he did. The good old days…

I've read something like they make 5x more black than green. Nobody really knows, this is just pretty much what ADs have told people and a lot of guessing. The only thing we know for sure is that they make more black than green.

You can give your info to an AD, but that doesn't really mean much. They might keep a real list, they might not. They might actually save your details, they might throw them away the second you walk out. You might have even been on a real list for two years only to find out Sep 1st that it's been discontinued. No guarantees. Just look at the GMT LN that was the easiest one to get, just randomly got discontinued, and prices shot up like crazy.

I just hope they don't discontinue the GMT Batman or the Hulk so I could get one in the next year or two. Rumor is the Hulk could be gone, but I'd be just as happy with that BLNR.

The current BLNR has only been around for like a year, so it's not going anywhere. People have been predicting the hulk being discontinued for years, and it hasn't happened. In it's current form, it will be discontinued for sure at some point, but whether that means discontinued altogether, or just changed to the 3235 movement, we'll see. I think we might see all the Subs given the 3235 on Sept 1.

Does anyone trust buying from a non authorized rolex dealer? Can anyone vouch for a reputable seller? I see so many I want on ebay but I just don't trust that I'm getting some real or not tampered with. Seems like all the good deals are in Florida.. I already have a rule about never buying a supercar/exotic from Florida.

Looking for a John Mayer, or might settle with a Paul Newman… Would love a BLNR.

Thanks! Lol deleted because I posted while on mobile and wasn’t sure if I embedded right. Was gonna repost when I got home. Just never did.

The two tone black sub is nice. Just wish I wore it more. Once I got it I realized I was more of a stainless guy over gold. Don’t wanna sell though as maybe I’ll grow into appreciating it more someday. But in my everyday life it’s a little to loud.

With the blnr and hulk. I would feel my collection is good enough to quit collecting lol or so I say now.

Hopefully this works

Edit- thanks for fixing the link

All of this makes me sort of have a sour taste in my mouth with ADs. The one who got my AK showed me pics of when he first started about 2 years ago at the time (this time last year) and they had a case full of crap.

@Will yeah i sort of laughed and was like this is BS. They didnt really go out of their way to chit chat like the last did. So that's what really got me.

Here ya go m9-1

solid two-piece collection

I don't think I'll ever really stop collecting, it's such an endlessly interesting world when you step away from buying new. Currently at 300+ piece collection. More than half of them are practically identical to each other (all WWII military issued with black dial and subseconds), yet they're still so different and interesting. I have several examples of the same model and make, and yet even those are all still so different.

As for waiting lists; my watchmaker who works for a Rolex Service Center got on the list as soon as the GMT jubilee got unveiled like a year or two ago, and still has to wait 5 years

Kowabunga fixed your image for you. Now that I can see it, it's definitely a strong 2piece collection. Nice steel Omega, nice steel Rolex. I personally think the blnr AND hulk would be a little steel-overkill. Would likely look to have at least one full dressy patek/lange/JLC to rock in those rarer formal occasions to completely round out the collection but that's just me. Your aqua terra is already a nice versatile piece that you can flex in a suit so you're not far off the mark anyway. Nicely done.

Was it a dedicated Rolex Boutique or an AD that sold other brands? I've never even walked into a dedicated Rolex Boutique before because I know that is the exact experience i'm gonna get. They're so used to tire kickers and window shoppers, and they know damn well they have their VIP of VIPs list of multi-millionaires so they have no reason to give anyone who isn't buying a Cellini the time of day.

ADs that sell multiple brands are typically more of the watch enthusiast variety that welcome casual watch chat even if they don't have your piece available to you.

Would likely look to have at least one full dressy patek/lange/JLC to rock in those rarer formal occasions to completely round out the collection but that's just me. Your aqua terra is already a nice versatile piece that you can flex in a suit so you're not far off the mark anyway. Nicely done.

You might be right about too much steel. Will probably just choose the one I can find in stock first between the BLNR and Hulk. I don't know much about the other brands you mentioned. Pretty sure Patek prices me out immediately lol I can't foresee a future where I'll ever be able to drop more than 15k on a watch. If I do it'll probably be when I'm much older lol so that might be the case with the other two brands you mentioned as well.

Will probably just chill for a couple years and continue saving.

What would you suggest for a full dressy watch that's under 10k? edit- just saw that JLC you posted at the top of the page. That's a pretty watch, and seems to be in the realm of possibility. Would be nice to have one nice watch on a leather strap.

Davidsw is 100% reputable. Not sure what your hollow links issue is. It either originally came with them or it didn't.

I'm pals with a few collectors including some close friends and family. I've been warned about buying online and getting gold plated replica links which are hollow inside, along with fake gold crowns/clasps. Those thoughts always sit with me now.

Thanks for the recommendation though!
