Gonna miss Buckner but the move makes perfect sense. Now I keep seeing rumors that they might make a trade for a big name WR?
Imagine if we woke up today and we had traded #31 for Hopkins.
Horny.

Obviously this looks like an awesome trade for Arizona (even if Hopkins is wanting M Thomas money like is being reported), it’s kinda crazy how much the Cardinals have invested in the WR position and how little they have on the offensive line.
2018 draft: 2nd round Christian Kirk
2019 draft: 2nd round Andy Isabella, 4th round Hakeem Butler, 6th round KeeSean Johnson
2020: trade for Hopkins
For a team that already has Fitz. Sexy names but their offensive line is a mess and their defense isn’t any better. Not how I’d build a team but we’ll see how it looks next season.

Sucks to see Buckner go though, but it is what it is.

So many options in the draft now that we have two number 1s. What if we traded 13 and 31 up a few spots to get the best WR in the draft (Jeudy) and also get a 3-4th rounder.
That would be a nice haul for Buckner IMO.

Trade 31 to Jags for #42 and #73

I love Buck so it’s not easy but #13 in this draft is great. I have a feeling we’re not done trading. Could see us trading #31 for OBJ now.
But also, and I’d probably prefer this, take one of the elite WR’s in this draft and then trade back at 31.
If a team is really in love with a QB on draft day and we could get a monster haul for 13 then I’d be fine trading back at that pick and then trading 31 for OBJ.

How much cap space do we have now? Glad we got Ward back.
Would like to bring in a DT and IOL in free agency.

Glad we got Armstead re-signed. I don't mind the deal and think he will keep up a high level of play. I'm sad to see Buckner go as a player but no way we could give him that kind of money. I like getting the 13th pick
but wish we could have gotten a little more
. I have a feeling too that we aren't done making some trade type deals whether it be players or picks. We'll see what happens moving forward.
All in all, with keeping Armstead and having depth at DL I think assuming we stay healthy we can afford to not have Buckner but that's a big if. Curious to see how we go about drafting this year and any more trades that may come up for us.

It may not look THAT much worse than Armstead's but the biggest difference is this season. We backloaded the hell out of Armstead's deal with some team options so he either plays his ass off and gets all of it or we can move on from him before the deal gets really heavy.
Just for comparison Armstead will have a $6 mil cap hit this season. Buckner will have a $23 mil cap hit this season. Before his new deal with Indy his cap hit for us was $12 mil so trading him not only got us the 13th overall pick but it also gave us wiggle room to sign our own guys - like Ward(glad to have him back)
So while the move sucks because we all love Buck and replacing him will not be easy and it certainly means we're not returning the dominant DL we had last year so now we will have the unknown of what it will look like without Buckner.
The good thing is we have a chance to make something in this draft that can help the team long term. Buckner wasn't going to take a team friendly deal so the question was do you hang on as much as you can with that DL or do you try to improve the team in other ways, hope other guys step up to fill in for Buck and try to win that way?
Obviously the draft is a crapshoot but this draft has some pretty good talent at the top that go into our needs. If he's there Henry Ruggs makes a ton of sense. He gives us the speed to do some really exciting things on offense.
I can't help but wonder what would've happened in the SB if say we had someone like Ruggs but didn't have Buckner. No question Buckner made plays but the way that game was getting called…or not called speed over the top on offense would've made it much tougher on KC to sit on underneath stuff. It's why Chris Jones was able to just hang back without even rushing and just bat down passes. You have a guy like Ruggs on the outside and you have to respect his speed.
We'll see what happens of course but it's a deal that relies heavily on us nailing that draft pick. Colts got a great player. We got salary cap relief and a chance to add an impact player but not a guarantee. Hope we take advantage and the guys on the DL hold it down.

I hate to see Buckner go but we couldnt keep that dline together no matter what.
I thought Buckner would have had a better year then what he did and i think the 49ers thought so too . Armstead had a better year and i hope he lives up to his contract. If we can bring in Timmy Jernigan or someone to help id be happy with that.
The draft also got a lot more interesting. I thinl Jeudy will be gone by #13 but one of those top OT still should be there. Its not sexy but would set us up for a long time.

Aaron Donald for comparison had a down year with 12.5 sacks. Donald makes $22.5 mil per year. As good as Buckner has been does his impact/play warrant just $1.5 mil less than Donald for US? When we have so many other guys on the DL to pay?
The move isn't an easy one but it makes business sense. We have to do our job and ensure that pick is used on a key player who can be a big contributor to this roster for years to come to make it a win for us but business wise it makes sense already.

Keeping Ward is good assuming this guy can stay healthy and give us the level of play he did last year for the next three years and even improve on that.
Saw we're keeping Shon Coleman around too. Shefter saying we're likely to shop one of our first round picks…

Also some great small moves today that I really dig.
Ronald Blair back for 1 year deal, provides solid depth from a versatile and very smart player.
Also restructure by Jerrick McKinnon. Haven't seen the numbers yet but sounds like we may get to see him play for us after all.

Both WR Kendrick Bourne and RB Matt Breida have been given a 2nd-round tender by the #49ers. They'll both make $3.2 million in 2020. They can negotiate with other teams and receive an offer sheet. If the 49ers choose not to match, they'll receive that team's 2nd-round pick.
The #49ers are bringing back defensive end Ronald Blair on a 1-year deal, source said. He had three sacks last year.
Interesting… Happy to see them back, but curious to see what happens.

Im seeing people complain on the webzone but the dline is still loaded!!!
Bosa
Armstead
Ford
Jones (was having a great year)
Blair (underrated)
Thomas (role player at this loint)
J Taylor
K Street
Day
Givens
Do we still have Demonte Moore under contract?
Only thing to add is a speed rusher for depth and a big fatty to help stop the run.
Im liking this offseason too. There wasnt alot of free agents i wanted them to go after so i have no problem with no big signings and we need to save cap movie.

I can understand people being upset at losing Buckner, he's been our most consistent and durable DLman for 4 years. Any time you trade a proven stud with many prime years ahead of him for a draft pick it's hard to swallow.
I'm still struggling with it but I look at it like this…
Armstead + Ward + Blair + some other FAs + 13th overall pick or Buckner
Look at the Rams right now. You have Aaron Donald posting memes like this one…
What happened was he took what he was worth and they didn't have the cap space to keep the other guys.
The thing with Donald is he's a monster and is actually worth that contract. Buckner is going to make 7% less than Donald with this Colts contract. As good as Buckner has played can anyone say he's made even 93% of the impact that Aaron Donald has?

Only guy I really wanted us to keep that we haven't brought back is Sanders and odds are that 13th pick will be used on a young kid to replace him.
