I think im slowly putting Ruggs as our #1 target in the draft. He seems to fit our scheme perfectly and he isnt just a speed guy.

My only issue is i dont view him as a #1 WR and i dont know if you take that at 13. Lamb to me is a boom or bust and the only thing that scares me with Jeudy is the majority of his snaps were played in the slot. Thats not to say he cant play outside but the question is there and legitimate.

The tendering of Breida is a head scratcher…no one is giving up a 2nd for him and the salary associated with it is “steep”. I’m still puzzled what happened with him. We just shut off using him.

Backfield is a traffic jam, but I am excited to see jet get a shot. His receiving capabilities must really separate him. If not, it’s Breida clone.

I am sort of scared out two, more important, signings are players we have all seen have injury issues. I just can’t imagine Ward playing more than 30 games over this contract.

Ready to see the Kittle number.

Niners are in a great spot if JG progresses. Hurd/Taylor can give us something and 13 lands us a WR. Wish we could get Delaney for the cheap. Low key signing that pays dividends!

Ruggs can be a #1. People don’t associate shorter dudes with being true X receivers but AB84, Steve Smith, etc. Hell, he’s the same height at 5’11 as OBJ. Ruggs is 5’11 with a 42” vert…crazy hops. Ultimately, if he’s Tyreek Hill, who cares if he’s not a true X receiver.

I like all the top 3 WR’s but prefer Jeudy.
Horny.

Jeudy is my top guy as well.

You guys really expecting to go WR with that 13th pick?

Yeah that height is definitely not an issue. Especially when you look at Tyreek Hill who is probably the closest comparison for the fast #1 WRs out there.

I've seen a lot of people bash Ruggs because the think the kid is just speed aka Goodwin. He's not. The good thing about Bama is they run a pro offense so these receivers run pretty much the full route tree making it easier for them to project to the NFL.

I'll have to dig up the chart later on but soemone put together a route distribution for some of the top WRs in the class including the % of throws per route and % of yards per route. Ruggs had a very good breakdown meaning he had success all over. Sometimes it's concerning when guys get the bulk of their production only running a few routes(I remember Aiyuk had a chunk of his production from screens which is a bit of a red flag…though his production was so good doing it that I'm fine with it)

Ruggs also has great hands which some of these speed guys don't have - Goodwin, Ted Ginn Jr.

I certainly love Jeudy and Lamb as well but the speed Ruggs brings opens up things for the offense. Having him out there isn't just about him and him catching bombs(cuz end of the day those are still low % throws so we'll want to limit those) but the threat of him will pull safeties back and clear out the middle of the field which is where we make our money - Kittle, Deebo, Hurd, Taylor, RBs…you get that middle cleared out more with the threat over the top and Kyle will have some fun.

My preference would be Ruggs, Jeudy then Lamb.

Any of the 3 I think becomes our best WR. Ruggs' speed helps us the most IMO but Jeudy is a bigger Dante Pettis with less wonky movement so you know Kyle is going to be a fan. He plays much faster than his 40 time too.

I'm not expecting anything but IMO it makes too much sense.

Right now it doesn't look like Sanders will be coming back and even if he does we still don't have a real #1 guy. I love Deebo but not sure he's that.

Ruggs, Jeudy and Lamb would be.

I think Kyle learned a tough lesson in the SB. The refs decided to not call any holding in the trenches so our biggest strength became held back(pun intended) while the strength of the Chiefs came to the surface which is their big play potential.

No matter how well our secondary played all year defending speed is tough when the DL isn't getting to the QB.

We had speed but not at the WR position, at least not in a way which can make the defense adjust their coverage. What happened was the Chiefs D understood we didn't have anyone to burn their secondary. Their secondary sat on the underneath stuff and it allowed a monster like Chris Jones to hang back and try to bat the ball down. If you have speed on the outside a defense can't play middle of the field like that or they get burned…obviously inside OL has to do their job(reason why Person got the boot)

Now maybe Ruggs and Jeudy go before 13, maybe all 3 of the top guys go and if that's the case I certainly hope we don't go WR there but I do think WR there makes sense as one of those guys SHOULD be available. If not someone else will drop and we can either try to improve the OL(maybe take one of the top OTs, play him inside at RG until Joe is ready to hang them up) or maybe we'll feel Brown or Kinlaw is BPA and try to replace Buckner with a younger talented player.

If I'm ranking it I think we go WR, OT, CB and then trade down from 31.

I would say an OT would be more valuable, and you guys should be able to land a top one @ 13.

I see a ton of WR talent in this draft, so I think it would be smart to hold off on WR with that first pick. Ruggs/Lamb/Jeudy are all great talents, I just don’t know if I see a true generational talent @ WR this year.

I would be fine with OT at 13. But lets be honest, they arent that fun to talk about.

We dont have any glaring needs so we just need to keep building with the future in mind.

I dont get the Person move only to sign Compton. I was thinking they were clearing space for another big move but turns out they weren't.

I can see it from both sides.

Obviously it depends how the draft unfolds or it doesn't matter. If all 3 of Ruggs/Jeudy/Lamb go before 13 it's a moot point but if I'm guessing I think 2 OTs and 1 WR go before 13.

So then you have a decision do you take the #2 WR on your board or the #3 OT on your board?

Kyle Shanahan is also very particular about his WRs. My guess is Ruggs and Jeudy are his guys. If we don't bring back Sanders I think the odds of WR being the pick at 13 are at 85%. If we sign Sanders it probably drops to 60%.

Despite putting a lot of draft capital lately into the WR position 49ers only have two guys under contract who are proven with no serious injuries to come back from - Deebo and Kendrick Bourne(who is a quality player but not exactly a stud)

Pettis - question mark after last year
Trent Taylor - question mark after his crazy foot injury
Jalen Hurd - question since he never played in the regular season and his back injury
Richie James - never played enough to show if he's legit WR

Yeah this WR class is deep but 49ers have gone for the later guys last few years and haven't found their #1. 49ers have been pretty clear they still want that guy in going after OBJ and then trading for Sanders.

Then again investing in OL is never a bad idea. Joe Staley doesn't have many years left. If say Wirfs is there he could be very tempting. Play him at RG now and then when Joe leaves let McGlinchey and him battle it out for LT/RT starting spots. Some people just really like Daniel Brunskill who played very well for us last year when injuries hit.

Overblown IMO. Especially because his route running is so good and he gets separation easily. I'd be more worried if he was a jump ball guy. People are looking to nitpick when you take guys early in the draft and it's understandable but sometimes letting the nitpicking overlook everything else he put on tape is a mistake.

I prefer Ruggs over Jeudy but i'm not worried about Jeudy's contested drops.

Gonna miss his veteran presence in the locker room. Sucks to see him go to an NFC rival like New Orleans too. As if they weren’t dangerous enough. Hopefully they get some more playoff chokes in them.

13th pick definitely looking like WR. Problem is now other teams will be expecting it but we’ll see what happens.

Good god I saw Packers had interest in Marquise Goodwin. You guys better give him us AND a draft pick to take that awful contract off your hands.

Goodwin can be absolutely money when he doesn't seem to have personal **** going on. He could be pretty dangerous w Aaron Rodgers

It’s actually not an awful contract. He’s had a lot of stuff going on off the field that took his mind off the game imo(understandably so) if he’s locked in he’s actually a very good player. Limited but still good. I honesty would hate to see him with Rodgers.

Uhhh….goodwins hands are stone and dude put together maybe six games to get that contract. Yea, please take him. That’s his football “skills”.

As stated, dude has had heavy personal stuff. I’m not sure if the most recent absence was the same tragedy, but yea, he may not be someone to depend on.

A big reason Sanders decided to join the Saints was the proximity to his grandmother, who still lives in Bellville, which is roughly 400 miles from the Superdome in New Orleans.

“One of the first people I called was my grandma, because she called me, her and my aunt were on the phone when free agency started, and she said, ‘We’re praying you go to New Orleans!’ The Texans, they had an opportunity and needed a receiver, the Cowboys needed one, but my grandma was talking about New Orleans because she loves that team,” Sanders said Sunday during a conference call, according to The Athletic. “She loves Drew Brees, she loves Sean Payton, she loves the offense and she wanted to watch me play. When I called her and told her she was so excited about it.

“Not only that, she’s excited because literally they can drive to the game if they wanted. My family, I don’t know how far of a distance it is, but I know last year when [the 49ers played the Saints] I had like 15 family members drive up, so it can’t be that long of a drive. So that’s pretty cool to be back down south and be close to my family as well.”

eh oh well.

In reality he sounds like a pretty good dude. I get why he would go there if offered. At the same time I wouldn't mind having him back, but I also know that team has to be careful with the cap space right now. Hopefully Kittle gets done soon!

Also the Saints are going to be scary… With Thomas and now Sanders. Both catch almost everything thrown their way. It will be fun to watch.

The team signed Travis Benjamin from the chargers. I really do not know much about him so I cannot comment.

Anyone hear anything about Goodwin?

Fun for sure and family is family, so i get it as well. Kittle ain't going anywhere, i would say that he is the face of the team.
