OBJ is an overrated diva. 49ers should have made a play for Hopkins

I know there’s a belief that we won’t use both first rounders, that we’ll trade back. If we can afford it, why not just use both? We’re a SB contender, if we can get two immediate starters then we should. If we’re at 31 and they don’t see anyone they think will be an impact player then I’m for trading it to a bottom tier team for a 2021 1st rounder. But not sure why we need to have a bunch of draft picks. Our roster is too strong where we can add 8 rookies to it. Hell, just last year we lost our 6th round pick because he didn’t fit on our roster.

We could also trade one of the picks for an NFL player which would be tough finding someone we could afford that a team is willing to let go.
Horny.

Well somehow i think that being in a better winners environment, with legends like Rice and company he could have risen to the occasion.
Sometimes you need to be around top tier people, because it raises your game.

Agree. OBJ is super talented but mentally weak. I’ve seen corners who had no business covering him get in his head and shut him down.

For a guy with such talent you don’t see them on 3 teams in 3 years in the prime of their career.

I’d pass.

I think we’d use both if the board showed it to be a smart move. I don’t think it will.

My preference would be Ruggs at 13 and Cesar Ruiz at 31 if he was there. But I don’t think he will be. IOL is pretty weak in this class and that’s where we need help.

I think we end up using 13 and then move back from 31 because it will allow us to pick up some day 2 picks where the board is more likely to play out better for what we need.

I don’t think that’s a good fit for our locker room. One thing this team showed in 2017 and 2018 is they played hard even when they sucked. OBJ clearly doesn’t fit that.

In my expert opinion (watching youtube highlights lolz) I think Jeudy is the best WR in the draft. If he's on the board we better take him

Sometimes I sit around wondering what it’d be like if we traded Mostert and a 2021 2nd round pick for Hopkins.

It would've been more like Coleman considering DJ wasn't even the starter for Arizona anymore. Just an awful trade by O'Brien.

Is it really true that Aldon Smith signed with the cowboys? I really want to feel like that was an April fools joke. He hasn't played in like 3 years. Why would anyone sign him?

Gonna be a weird situation this year with the remote draft. Have to wonder if there will be stupid mistakes due to technology problems(glad we have a younger front office that hopefully helps us avoid being THOSE guys)

Hope everyone here is staying safe.

I plan on watching the 1st round live and then will just follow along. I am really curious to see what the team does? Trade picks, trade players ect… Will be fun to see!

I cannot wait for this thing to get over with. Working at home with my wife and 2 kids is already driving me nuts after 3 weeks. Working full time and now homeschooling…

So far the only good things to happen is that I refinanced my house. It appraised for a hell of a lot more than we thought so we paid off my wife's car. Now that means I get to buy my truck. We were not planning on doing so soon but with the market the way it is we are watching the car dealerships. I am hoping next month they have better deals going on.

Nice man! We were looking to refinance ours before all this crap started, haven’t even looked into it if it’s still a possibility at this point but maybe we’ll brave it. I’m extra stressed out cuz of this since the wife and I have our first on the way. She’s due in August so I hope things will be back to normal by then…for NFL season sake’s as well.

And yeah the draft is once again interesting after we got the 13th pick. I’ll be happy with a lot of scenarios but my preference would be to grab Henry Ruggs at 13 and then trade back from 31 to try to get a 2nd and 3rd rounders and maybe more depending how far down in round 2 we go. Would like us to look at someone like Matt Hennessy in round 2(assuming Cesar Ruiz is gone at 31 cuz otherwise I’d take him and wait it out til the 5th round)

I like KB a lot actually. I love the energy he brings. Wish he’d get his hands consistent but he’s also made some big time catches for us. Great guy to have for depth and sad thing is behind Deebo he’s the most sure thing we have at WR right now.

Would love KB as a #5 receiver. Deebo, rookie, Hurd, TT, KB, James next year. A lot of unknown but I like those guys.

Later, Pettis. (Unless by miracle he grows some balls)

Congrats dude! Not sure if you mentioned it or not but I will say it again anyway… Start getting your sleep now! Sleeping in for us now is 630 on a good day.

I think we started the process at the right time. I do not think it hurts to talk to someone. Just be advised lenders want a lot more crap from you with everything going on. Right before we closed I had to submit my current paystubs to verify employment.

So I’m in full draft mode now that i’m getting bored out of my mind. So glad we got pick #13 as its opened my eyes to a lot of guys I didn’t think we’d be able to get. I’m all aboard the CeeDee Lamb train but would be more than happy with Jeudy or Ruggs. Actually I’d be happy with a lot of folks at #13. Anyways I’ve gone through all of the internet draft sites and compiled their big boards/draft rankings like I do each year to give me an idea of where each player may go. Here is the rankings of the top 50:

Listened to the recent Locked On 49ers podcast and someone was on there who has done a lot of research about what Shanahan looks for in a receiver. Here’s the article the guy wrote:

https://www.fourthandnine.com/post/s...-kyle-shanahan

So since Kyle got to Atlanta up until this point he’s drafted or signed WR’s with these attributes:

-Vertical Jump – minimum of 32 inches
-3-cone time – maximum of 7.0 seconds (with one notable exception of Deebo Samuel at 7.03)
-20-yard short shuttle time – maximum of 4.20 seconds

Jeudy ran a 20 yard shuttle of 4.53 which would be way slower than any receiver Shanahan has brought in these last 5 years. Could just be nothing but it could matter to Shanahan. Even Chris Simms doesn’t think Jeudy is a Shanahan type. All of this might not matter since Jeudy could very well be gone by #13 but if he’s sitting there and especially if Lamb and/or Ruggs is gone, I’d hate to pass on Jeudy.

The two guys in the draft class that do fit this physical narrative are Pittman and Isaiah Hodgins. I actually really like Pittman but he would be more of a 2nd round pick if we could trade back and acquire a second rounder. And also Ruggs and Lamb did not do those drills so they may fit in that criteria (Ruggs almost certainly does), but we aren’t sure.
Horny.

Don't forget some guys didn't run the 3 cone and/or shuttle so there are some who would also fit that criteria.

Pretty sure Ruggs would've had no problem with those numbers. But I also think Jeudy's tape would go a long way to taking away any concerns Kyle has related to the combine drills. If you watch him…there are no issues moving in the open field or him getting open.

These are some of the other guys who are probably top 20 WRs, who didn't run either 3 cone or shuttle or both

Aiyuk
Claypool
Quartney Davis
Bryan Edwards
KJ Hamler
Tee Higgins
KJ Hill
Justin Jefferson
CD Lamb
DPJ
Shenault
Ruggs

This year is going to be really tough to use combine/pro day evaluations because some of these guys elected not to run at the combine but then had their pro days cancel. So using the athletic numbers may be out the window.

Hopefully our guys are prepared, learned some good lessons from whiffs in the past and nail this draft. We need to.

btw if I haven't made it clear enough…i REALLY want Ruggs to be drafted by us.

I can only imagine the stuff Kyle can design with Ruggs on the field same time as Kittle and Deebo.

Mix in other guys depending on what we want to do whether it's run looks with Juice and Mostert/RB. More pass heavy with Hurd/Bourne/Taylor….

Lots of options but Ruggs' opens so much and forces the defense to respect that speed.

Considering I got Bosa last year…Ruggs will probably be drafted ahead of us tho

Just a little over a week to go before the draft.

This would be a dream draft for me…tried to keep myself honest using the Draft Network big board.

Totally wouldn’t be opposed to Ruggs but I really prefer Jeudy or Lamb. And I think I’d prefer a trade down if both of those guys are gone. Could still get a good receiver with a later pick.
Horny.

Feel like Ruggs is gaining some traction. Peter Schrager and Matt Miller like the 49ers drafting him. Those guys are kind of tuned into our organization.

I like him. I feel like the Tyreek Hill comparisons are throwing me off though. I dont see that with him. He’s fast as hell but I haven’t seen any of that joystick movement Hill has. If Kyle loves him though I’m all in.

Bama is so stacked though lol. They have that Waddle kid that very well might be better than Jeudy or Ruggs.
Horny.

If anyone ends up better than those guys it's Smith. Shocked he didn't come out this year.

Ruggs to me isn't the best WR in this class. He's the best WR for us.
