Another woman started helping me, told her i was there to pick up the blue dj41 that they were holding for me. But then said I was curious if they had any of the two-tone rosegold options. To my luck they had all of the dial variations but on smooth bezel. Instantly fell in love with the Sundust. In direct light it looks silver, but indirectly it's this blush/dusty-pink color.

The Blue

Rosegold Chocolate

Rosegold Sundust

When the other lady came around she brought out the blue and that REALLY threw me for a loop because it was more stunning than i expected, and then someone in the boutique said "you know, if you get that blue on jubilee, it's gonna be redundant if you get a BLNR afterward" and that kind of sealed the deal on me. They didn't have the Sundust with fluted bezel at location but it was at another boutique they could order from, so i put down 5 grand to hold it till this weekend.

So hopefully if i get there and the fluted on sundust is as awesome as i expect i'll be walking out with my first rowlecks. I think what i like most about it is that it's gonna be the exact opposite of what someone would expect me to have for a Rolex. Masculine sizing, but a slightly feminine color scheme. Couldn't stop smiling through the experience. They poured me some scotch, put on some music and let me try on some of their Patek Philippe pieces. One day…

As long as you're okay with getting virtually no recognition for it, and YOU love it then go for it. Grand Seiko's dials are insane and never get old. I've been close to buying one twice now.

How much was the sun dust compared to the blue? That is super nice watch. I didnโ€™t think Iโ€™d like something like that, but your pics really make it look nice. Definitely checks that nice dress watch box off your list.
Keep in mind the sun dust is rose gold and the blue is stainless steel.

This will be the foundation of your collection if I'm not mistaken. If you're going DJ, might as well say fuk it and go jubilee and fluted and white or black (or blue). Do anything and everything watch.

Pretty much where i'm at. The rosegold/sundust might come back to bite me in the ass later as not being suitable for a situation but I'm pretty smitten with it and just imagining it with the fluted bezel is gonna be pure hnnnng. Can't wait to get it in hand.

The only thing bugging me is the total cost. Last 3 months i was thinking "i'll poke around long enough. EVENTUALLY i'll land a blnr at $9700 retail…" nope. All said and done, this fully kitted two tone is gonna run 14k, and Sky Dwellers go for 14,800 fuhhhhhhk that's an annoying pill to swallow. No one is exempt from Rolex's supply cucking.

Thanks a lot man. Been looking forward to this next piece for a long ass time. Funny you mention suiting up. I basically went in this exact outfit but with grey shoes.

Felt good to be in there chillin drinking scotch in lounge wear, while a guy in a suit and his nose all turned up came in tire kicking for a new OP41. When I go pick it up, i'll show a little more respect for the occasion and dress a bit more proper.

Will is now a Rolex *******.

Huehuehuehuehue.

Oddly enough, visiting upstate NY again for work this week. Old buddy up here i used to see out often walked in and had a brand new DJ41 in jubilee, fluted, stick/rhodium dial. Let me try it on and damn that watch felt amazing and was actually much more understated in person than expected. And the jubilee….fukking money.

Thatโ€™s the one I want, or a black dial would work too. I saw yesterday they had a brand new one on DavidSW for 11.5k. That doesnโ€™t seem that unreasonable judging from Wills posts. At least itโ€™s better than twice retail.

I'm annoyed with myself but i couldn't deny how stunning the whole piece looked. Just glad i'm still not another submariner homer. So tired of seeing those fuking things in the city. I get it, but damn… not even gonna TRY to be a little original?

As for the DJ41 jubilee on steel, I was a little surprised that the steel version is actually more "blingy" than the rosegold. The rosegold i guess naturally mutes the color a bit. The high polish steel is noticeably louder in my opinion but not in a tacky way. I know I was going on and on about wanting smooth bezel rather than fluted but eventually the chips were on the table and you're sitting there with that thought like "wow, i'm ACTUALLY about to spend 8 or 10 grand. Not just chattin schit in theory online…" I wanted the extra shine. If that blue dial had been fluted, I very well could have walked out with it.

fully kitted steel DJ41s are about $10,500 after tax so that's not a bad premium at all if your AD can't source one. It's that 5 or 10 grand premium for BLNRs and BLROs I can't stomach. What's worse, you don't even have a hot chick telling you "how that dial is great with your skin tone" and pushing champagne/scotch on you for it. Schit just shows up in a dustyass delivery box. I want to be swooned when i'm spending this kind of coin.

My DJ combo is the Blue you speak of, stick dial, and Jubilee/fluted. After seeing the exact combo in rhodium….oof it looked good. I'm not in a rush so im just waiting for the AD to deliver. I told him BLNR is my top, and DJ is #2. Realistically i was meh a little on the DJ but it's a good watch. After seeing almost the exact model in person and feeling it on my wrist, im hooked.

You hit the nail on the head though with seeing it in person. It's totally different, and i feel it's even more so with rolex. Dunno why. Probably just biased. 100000% agree on the sub though. Told my AD i do not want one and he had this sort of surprised look but also later said that's one of the ways they figure out who is a flipper and who is just a watch guy.

Overpriced quartz watch. If you're just buying for looks, then it what it is, but it has no more substance than that.

That^ $2,000 for quarts is pretty rough.

I noticed you said you really like the chronograph "design" rather than "function". That leads me to believe you're more into it for how it looks rather than the actualy chronograph capability. For similar feeling "cool designs" at the 2k pricepoint you can find a handful of stuff with a mechanical movement.

The Tag "PepsI" GMT can be had for $2400 on jomahshop

Breitling Colt Automatic has a ton of dial/strap options around $2,000

Then you have the Oris Artix GT Chronograph. My biased favorite because it was my first mechanical piece after I embarrassed myself by going to Zurich Switzerland with a $200 quartz citizen i bought on amazon. Can be had for around $1,900

Thanks for the response and the suggestions. That Oris Artix GT looks real nice. Has given me something to think about in the $2000 range

Was enjoying my watch "coffee table" book this morning out on the balcony. Was flipping through and noticed JLC has some gorgeous reverso variations available. Really wish I could find an AD for the fuking things so I knew how they sat on wrist. 24hours out from picking up my new piece. Much excite. Very anticipate.

Namely Tudor but they don't market as strongly as Tag so to him he probably think tag has more cachet. Must be one of those Canada Goose parker wearers lol.

But in all seriousness I would tell him to go try on the Large and Medium Cartier Santos. The large was too large, and the medium was too tiny for me but i do love this watch, and if he's lucky enough for it to work for him it would be a respectable piece to have both horologically(word????) and "general clout" to randoms for only $1000 more

I will point him that direction too. He was obviously liking some sort of chronograph, but at 4k, i pointed him to Fortis and Stowa's chronograph options and said those are almost 1/4 the price but 4x the watch.

That's a funky concept that i've never noticed until now. PowerRanger, your guy, myself when I first bought the oris… it's like guys that don't really know watches or just getting started are hellbent on getting a chronograph of some sort.

Perhaps it's because it looks more substantial? They are certainly cool to "play" with when you first get them day to day, but I remember feeling like an absolute potato when I'd go to dinner with a girl, put on a nice button-up or sweater and then strap on my monster 44mm chronograph lol.

But yeah was just pointing that out cause it was interesting. Still makes sense to go with the large size chrono for ones first watch, you're wrapping your head around buying a watch with a comma in the price point for the first time so you want something you can fiddle with as opposed to something that just looks proper at a dinner table.

That said…

Yeah the huge chronos arent for me either. The speedy is about as big as i want since it's a 42 that wears like a 40. And that tudor is hnnnnnng.
