Sorry *******s, I was celebrating drinking veuve and being ballz deep in my lady. Happy fuking holidays.

Trip could not have been any more perfect. Showed up early afternoon so I had the entire boutique to myself. Best part was, not only was my SA there but the Store Manager too who was meeting me for the first time. They poured me some scotch, showed me the watch and all of my worry was wiped away. The previous night I couldn't stop looking at youtube vids and photos of the watch and I was getting hella nervous thinking the watch was too "pink and feminine". I was afraid I would back out at the last second, but nope it was perfect.

They both knew it was my first one so they were all sentimental and emotional for me. I told them about my work trip to Switzerland where I showed up with my fuking citizen quartz and was so embarrassed that i put the watch in my pocket while walking through the airport. They were in tears laughing. I was in the boutique for 2 fuking hours. No one else was in the store so the manager was working on her laptop while all 3 of us were sitting there just shootin the schit.

Told them how when I bought my tudor, some guy came into the shop with a hood up looking all sketchy asking "if they had ANY stainless steel sports available". When I told them that, they laughed and said they get those type of people all day long, and they receive training on spotting these people and how to handle it. They got so comfortable with me, that they actually poured me a generous second glass of scotch and started bringing out crazy stuff they had in the back. Rose gold Yacht Master on OysterFlex, Two-Tone Daytona, Rose Gold SkyDweller on strap and a fuking GLORIOUS all rosegold gmt.

The YM40 is a really cool sports watch for guys with smaller wrists. It was my first time trying on the oysterflex bracelet and it was very comfortable. I told them I was a big daytona hater because you can barely use the chrono function and the dial was cluttered, so they brought one out for me to try and i was liie "…okay yeah i guess this is kinda cool". I flat out asked what the deal was with skydwellers being so difficult to get. I mentioned that it was my grail rolex but i haven't even been able to see one in the flesh. The two of them made eye-contact, manager nodded, then they brought out a skydweller on strap. Absolutely hideous configuration BUT I was finally able to hold it in hand and play with the complication. She told me stainless steel are wildly backed up, but if i was interested in a two-tone it may be possible to get one within a year (nah, i'm sweet).

Sky-Dweller is sweet but it is a bit "bulbous" in case shape to fit the annual calendar complication. I can imagine the white or blue dials are what wet dreams are made of. Middle of my second scotch, manager says "let me show you my holy grail". I didn't get a picture of it because i was too busy gawking at it But it was the Root Beer GMT but on an ever-rose Oyster Bracelet. Most stunning rolex piece i've seen full stop. Made the standard Two-Tone CHNR look like dick. I'm gonna keep hustling the next year and a half so maybe i can scoop it up for my 35th birthday as my "mid-life crisis" piece but it is crazy sexy to look at it.

Dear Diary continued,

At the end of the 2nd hour I busted out the sweetner. I told them I was thankful for them being kind to me instead of just laughing me out of the store for wanting a BLNR, they took the time to learn what else I wanted and worked for my business so I left each of them a $40 giftcard to this shwanky cocktail lounge around the corner from the boutique where drinks are like $14 a pop. Their faces lit up resisted giving me a hug n schit lol. They then went in the back and came out to give me a rolex hat and a suede travel pouch to carry my watch when I travel. Walked me to the door, I climbed into the back of my uber black Escalade and drove off into the sunset. I think I made a lasting impression not only with my sales associate but with the store manager as well. Very confident i'll be able to scoop the BLNR for my birthday next summer. 10/10 experience, wood spend 13k again.

These weren't "in stock" either. I was just very personable with them, it was my first rolex, and they could tell I wasn't a flipper. It appears that once i "checked out" as a legit watch enthusiasts they were happy to show me what they had in back for their VVVIPs

Edit: But this is the new endgame watch. In person it's just… stupid perfect.

Yeah that's pretty sick. I was talking to one of the owners of my AD asking if he could get me the meteorite pepsi (he could try but wasn't sure if he could even get the ones for the couple of people already waiting), and asked if he had anything interesting in the back that he could show me. Brought that one out. Pretty awesome piece.

At this point in the game, i'd take anything with a meteorite dial. A page or two back i was posting about my visit to Omega where the meteorite kept making me smile and wanting to buy it most over the Grey Side of the Moon i wanted. Then I saw that meteorite dial on the presidential and almost came then too. the GMT would be amazing.

As for that gmt i posted. It's something about the presence of the full rose gold bracelet and how that tone plays against the GMT. I'm pretty sure they make one for the sky-dweller with a slate/rhodium dial. That would just be flat out leaving humanity behind.

I remember at one point asking the store manager if she had ever seen one of those rainbow gem daytonas in person. said that's not even a yearly allocation piece. She said they received one of them ever and not sure if they'd ever see another one, sheesh.

Damn, you on dat der government contractor time? Rotating passwords every 60 days n schit? lmao.

Also, lol @ me turning into a homer overnight and looking at all of Rolex's offerings in rose gold now. I was/am more than happy with my rose gold two-tone, but when I saw the gmt on full rose gold bracelet my brain legit was like…

All of these things are basically 40k, so I have to get some property first before i justify such a spend but i think i'm in the right financial place where i can pull it off in 2 or 3 years. The photos never do them justice.

Edit: I wrote back to my SA asking how difficult would it be to get the Everose GMT. Apparently it's not one you'd ever see in a display case but is significantly easier to get than a steel skydweller or daytona in any dial color. So there's that.

So finally read your wall of text. I have had very similar experiences, and very similar statements made by both ADs in NY and VA. On everything you said. Every time i go in, they chat. And chat for 1-2 hours. It's always a pleasurable experience regardless of the undertone of trying to get a watch i want. I've been hinted at they are basically interviewing people to find out who are flippers and who are genuine watch dealers. My theory is Rolex does combat the flipper thing, but they give like a 5/10 effort on it knowing it is sort of a marketing gimmick.

Solid thought on the gift card. I gave my guy where i got my AK a growler of beer i knew he liked last christmas. And he was shocked and very thankful, then proceeded to chit chat with me for 2 hours. Plan on doing the same thing with the guy who got me my speedy. The GC is a good call. It sounds a little pathetic, but honestly the little bit of scratch for that i could care less about. It's more about "paying it forward." I got a cool little experience when i didnt have to, and wont forget it. So to me, that's worth the price of entry. I've budgeted the coin for a BLNR and the DJ i want. So ill just keep chatting…talking…and developing a good relationship. But part of me goes….why not just take that chunk of scratch and get the rose gold GMT….but i just love blue. So naturally drawn to the BLNR and the Blue/Stick dial DJ. Hell the last time i was in there when i got my speedy i showed the SA ive been dealing with the "Casioak" G shock i had just ordered. Then we proceeded to chat for another 20 mins about how a g shock is the one thing everyone nerds out over in the watch industry.

And yes, rose gold is about the only "colored" gold i would get from rolex. Cant stand the yellow gold. It just screams….80 year old hairy italian….or columbian drug lord. Rose gold….GMT….not Two tone but full rose gold….

Exactly. I lurk "the rolex forum" and it does seem some guys think it's pathetic. For me it depends. If a guy doesn't have purchase history and he's trying to get a submariner or explorer2 from one of the Big Box Shops like Torneau or Watches of Switzerland (UK), and he thinks some flowers, giftcard, or box of chocoloate is gonna help him move up the list then yeah that's pretty pathetic. However my AD is a smaller family business where I do have a chance of building a genuine business relationship.

I busted out the giftcards after i paid for my watch, inquired about the sky-dweller, drank their scotch, and tried on all the cool pieces. When you're playing the game of exclusivity against hundreds of other buyers that can walk in with $30,000 cash any day of the week, it's all about relationships and common kindness. The fuking sales tax on the watch was basically $1,000. At that point what's $80 extra as a kind gesture to the people that gave me the time a day when no less than 4 other ADs just laughed me out of their shop?

I'm not balling like THAT yet to be worried about storage, but when/if i get another piece of this caliber i'll look into a fingerprint safe. Theres a bunch on amazon at various price point. My SA said she'd be mailing me an appraisal of my watch to use for insurance purposes. I'll definitely be following up on that.

I wish Enforcer still posted in here to share how he stores his collection.

Some YTbers with crazy collections have to keep there watches at the bank and can only take a few out at a time according to their insurance which sucks.

Kevin O'leary from shark tank is a big watch guy but he said he had his whole collections stolen twice in his life.

Many congrats on your DJ, W1LL! Glad you had a good experience with the AD too, it makes the entire process so much more enjoyable rather than them throwing the watch in a bag and sending you on your way.
I’ve purchased a few from an AD who were always amazing but sadly they shut up shop so back to square one of being low priority with the others in my area

Agreed bro! The steel bezel is a nice change from the ceramics which dominate all the Rolex sportswatches and needed something to switch up the black dials. The price for these on the grey / used market is extremely good value IMO, especially with the 50th anniversary of the Exp next year I suspect they’ll be chopped and changed.

42mm case will polarise (pun intended) but wears well

Thanks for the congrats, I appreciate it.

Unpopular opinion, I don't think the explorer2 is an underrated piece anymore. Especially the white dial which sells second hand with a $1000 premium over retail.

Despite being hard to get, I think Evad3 is right that it is quite polarizing, much like the daytona. I was able to try one on, and i wasn't a fan of how it sat on my wrist. I felt like the bezel took up too much real-estate and the hour was bugging me a little because it looked abnormally short. I want to revisit the watch again though because last I saw it was over a year ago now.

Bingo. I was basically told the same thing. Got a story of one customer at this AD who was genuine about wanting something for his B day and such. Got like a BLNR or something along those lines. He was in a meeting with another client of this AD who had wanted one for a while and guy 2 promptly went in the store and started raising a chit fit with the sales manager. Like…wtf m9? Maybe that's why you arent getting called. Because guess what, all those tons of people on the list would come in right now and buy what they want. But it's about a relationship.

Yeah I can see that, the proportions haven’t bothered me but I have seen a fair few say the same as yourself. The white dial combined with the bezel definitely makes the polar appear larger than it actually is.
I personally wouldn’t choose the Exp2 as an only watch but it’s certainly something different. My wrist is just over 7.5” (no homo) and wears well on me but do feel the 40mm to be marginally more comfortable.

How are you finding the first few days with your DJ? Managed to stop staring at your wrist? . I’ve not experienced the jubilee bracelet yet but looks comfy af

Absolute not. It's like being a kid again when your parents bought you new sneakers and you walked around staring at your feet lol. I'm constantly looking down at it and turning my wrist to admire the rose gold on the jubilee and seeing the dial change in different lighting it's awesome.

I have a pretty large wrist as well, but have small bitch hands. I didn't need any links taken out of the jubilee bracelet at all, just needed the 5mm micro adjuster taken in, so i can always get that 5mm back if my wrist swells. Perfect sizing. Funny story, the first time I tried to check out the explorer 2 I was actually at a Godsmiths in Liverpool, UK. They politely told me to go fuk myself but gladly showed me some tudors I was interested in at the time. I don't know why but I feel like the Rolex market is 2X worse in the UK. I think it's because your culture in general is more aware of the watch game, whereas only guys with money money in the US are aware (exceptions of course).

Next week I'm going to go into an A. Lange boutique. I just want to discover the brand, see the pieces in person and introduce myself. My rolex AD is a Rolex and Patek dealer but i fuking hate all Pateks outside the 5212A. So i'm gonna go introduce myself to the A Lange people and see how dismissive or receptive they are. Unlike Patek I like their dress watches, and even the odysseus grew on me after awhile though from what I hear from Big Rangz those are only going to VVVIP, which makes since because whenever they pop up on the grey market they're going for almost 70k

After reading on TRF about all the UK horror stories for wait list times…i totally believe it.

The little micro adjustment is awesome. I think it's the same thing my AK has. Just pull it and it gives you that little extra? Perfect when you get a little warm and things expand.

Haha thats an awesome feeling! Constantly checking your wrist and taking pics in different lighting lol; the rose gold and jubilee combo looks sick. It sounds like you have a similar wrist size to me then, i don't have any links taken out when it comes to GMTs / Exp2 / DD40, just the micro adjustments and easy link.

The Rolex market here has been shockingly bad here since about late 2016/early 2017 and it seemed like we got it just before the US started suffering too, at the time i think it was the exchange rate where UK RRPs (GBP) were a lot cheaper than anywhere else in the world before Rolex balanced it out with their price increases.

I'm jelly bro, i've never been to A Lange boutique, try and get lots of pics for us! Used to love the Lange 1 but a dress watch just wouldn't get much wear for me now days. Damn, didn't realise they were going for such crazy money, i'd have to see one in person but its just something about the integrated bracelet that rubs me up the wrong way, atleast in pics

Does the datejust on jubilee have the easylink extension? I assumed it didn't but maybe the new ones do

Sooooooo we Rolex crew now?

Going to stop in my AD on Saturday with the speedy on just to say thanks. And shoot the ****. Oddly enough last week in NY had a buddy i know up there who got a DJ41 in rhodium. I was meh about the DJ and was half like "well i kinda like it…and it would get me some street cred" but then he wanted to slap my AK on so i put on the DJ and immediately thought "this was a mistake twovalvebruh."

Anyway, I put down 50% a few weeks ago at my local Tourneau (got $500 cash back via Chase Sapphire Reserve for spending >2K at Tourneau). 36mm Datejust, Everose gold, fluted bezel, white face. Really loved the "sun dust" dial but it's only available in 41mm. Should be available in January for pick up, assuming no lock downs. I'm in NYC tho so probably won't get it until 2022. Hold me brahs….

dress watch wouldn't get much wear from me either honestly but perhaps at one point? i just know i like their designs more than patek. As for the odysseus bracelet, it definitely does look weird in pics, but i saw a few "week on the wrist" videos of it and it didn't seem half bad.

Can confirm DJ's never caught my attention or wow'd me in pictures, but after watching a couple youtubers show theirs then trying one on in person i was like… oh okay, yeah i get it.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume if i'm asking the group about what their thots on everose are, i wasn't readily thinking of the one mention of everose how ever many months ago in this thread lol.

I got that one in early 2018. I can't figure out what I want my next watch to be…so think I'm just gonna chill for another year or two before thinking about another watch. I need to purchase some property next like you mentioned awhile ago that's next on my big purchase list.

Also that youtuber you just linked was one of the first guys I watched when I decided on the "skyfall" aqua terra. Before he got that DJ he had the same aqua terra.
