I wish longines would limit some. I really like some of their newer stuff. Some of the "old school" JLC knock off chronographs look pretty damn nice.
For example. This watch looks 10/10 in person:

Or the heritage military.

Don't have to convince me. I almost had a Longines instead of an Oris for my first watch, but as I was agreeing to earlier with the powerranger fellow, ultimately you want your first significant watch spend to look substantial or "cool", so I went with the oris chronograph.
I was looking at the Longines railroad or whatever it was called. At the time, I was taking a lot of "eurostar trains" seeing pretty stunning european railroad hubs like Gare Du Nord, and St. Pancras Station on a somewhat regular basis and I thought that would be a cool watch to have to remember that time in my life.
And honestly… now that i'm looking at this again i may try to source one. It appears they've discontinued this model and this was the very first watch I became obsessed with so I might have to circle back and get it.

Visited the AD today to get the omega bracelet micro adjusted out. And spent about 2.5 hours chatting as well. Took his card to give to my parents who recently bought jewelry from the other AD in town who basically laughed me out of the store. Found SA on LinkedIn and friended.

I like how i should (in theory) be obsessed with my DJ and unable to wear my tudor for a few months. But truth be told, the bronze and leather strap really are more at home against winter wool and leather fabrics.

GO also has differently levels of finishing for their watches. for example, the panograph is much better finished than the sixties chronograph. with lange you have the same baseline across all watches, just different complications

Opening the conversation to their full model lines, I agree completely with you. As with all things luxury, diminishing returns is a real thing, and twice the price might only mean 30% improvement in detailing.

Twovalvebrah you hear about the rumors for discontinuing the speedy pro in it's current form? "Refresh" coming with minor updates. People are speculating applied indices rather than painted, ceramic bezel, and movement upgrade. That timing would annoy the fuk out of me.

And yep. My AD flat out told me that. Said they were upgrading the movement essentially which means….bigger case. So I totally lucked out getting the last model year. It's kinda neat to think about.

As I was picking it up, i started mocking her before she could even get it out "o mY g0d it L00kz s0 go0d WiTh YoUr Sk1n T0nE!" the sales associate lost it. My girl was like "shut up i didn't say that!", yeah but you were going to though.
I know i'll have an omega one day just not sure on which piece. I'll likely go "quirky" on the configuration like i did with my DJ and go for either the meteorite dial speedmaster or green dial aqua terra. Then again part of me thinks I would go grand seiko over the aqua terra if i wanted something non-rolex on steel to wear casually. Those grand seiko dials and polish are just downright stupid.

I love the other speedy's but they just have gotten so big. I think my next purchase (barring a DJ or BLNR surprise) may be that Blue handed aquaterra. It's just so hnnnnnng in person.

Does the 116710LN wear like the current blnr? That sizing is perfect and i could definitely see the black/black being a one and only in that case. Especially with the added gmt function.

Iβd say the GMT (had the BLNR iteration) was probably the most comfortable watch Iβve owned; still regret not picking up a LN when they were readily available at retail but hindsight is a wonderful thing

Call me crazy but I can do mental gymnastics to stomach a 4K premium on a $15,000 watch, but I can't do that for a $9,000 watch with an 11k premium (pepsi). Same price in the end but for 20 large I want a unique complication. Perhaps the sky-dweller will end up being my midlife crisis watch afterall. Got 1.5 years to square away the funds.

I think the main thing lowering the overall hype for the watch is the barrier to entry via case size. Most of you ITT know i had a 44mm Oris chrono as my first piece, then the 43mm tudor bronze. So i'm not adverse to wearing chunky stuff but when I put the sky-dweller on i was like DAMN. It's not Omega Speedy Meteorite chunky, but it ain't terribly far off either.

A little "Week on the Wrist" update for the DJ41.
Fluted bezel is not the configuration for you if you're the OCD type. Would apply to smooth bezel to a certain degree as well. Natural everyday skin-oils and dead skin show like a MFer. Shows quite a bit on the lugs, but more annoyingly, it builds up in the rivets of the bezel.
The other day I was washing the whole piece with soap and water, but was using cheap bar soap and it dried with that glycerin residue smeared in the rivets. Had to rewash it with dawn. I've got some "wristclean" on the way though. Just thought I'd mention it because I have the darker rose-gold bezel which hides these residues fairly well. I imagine i'd go insane if I had the whitegold version that comes with the high polish stainless steel configs.
Other than that it appears the jubilee and fluted bezel combo draws a bit of attention for better or for worse. It's just funny because DJ's are probably third tier in regards to "rolex hype", but they seem to be at the top in terms of casual recognition. I've had 3 women and one guy compliment it in the last week. I'm not sure how I feel about owning the watch equivalent to a woman's brown Louis Vuitton monogram tote but it is what it is. I love this piece.

Will, appreciate you using a defense contractor friendly image hosting site now.
Thanks.
I'd say the LV level for rolex would be more the oyster perpetual. Especially now with the stop light color configs you can get. DJ is too classic, in my opinion.

Also, something oddly satisfying cleaning the bracelet and bezel with your fingers and soap. Feeling all the rivets and what not. I dunno, I don't mind having to do it every other day or so.

I'm going to be in Florida for a couple weeks this winter. I'm going to use the opportunity to visit a Jacquet Droz retailer. Love A Lange as a grail, but spending $20,000 on a watch I'd wear a dozen times per year would be downright retarded. JD's come in under 10k on the grey market and they're fukin buriful.
