If Watson is available we aren’t getting him without giving up a player or two. We have the #12 pick and if we get Watson we probably won’t have a pick in the top 10 anytime soon.

I was thinking our 1st and 2nd this year. 2022 1st. 2022 1st. And Javon Kinlaw. Maybe Jimmy G too if they want a stop gap.

Still won’t be mad if Jimmy is our QB next year. But we can’t go into the season with Mullens and Beathard as the backups. If Jimmy is our starter next year I’m guessing we get a QB in the top 3 rounds.
Horny.

Yeah Niners have a ton of free agents but the top priorities are Trent Williams and Jason Verrett. Everyone else would need to either be let go or signed cheaply which i hope will be the case since a lot of teams are strapped for cash this year.

As far as QB goes we either have to replace Jimmy or get a high quality backup.

Obviously Watson is my 1st choice but who knows what Houston will do. Not sure if we can wait either especially if it lingers through the draft. My 2nd preference would be to trade up which i think that will cost a lot. I think it would either be for either Fields or Lance. I see Wilson going #2 overall and dont think the Jets would trade that pick away unless it was for Watson so that leave Fields and Lance. The latter should be the 4th QB taken so i'd probably aim to trade up into top 5-6 of the draft. 3rd preference would be to bring in a guy like Darnold or even Trubisky. At worse you have a quality backup to Jimmy G.

I'm not waiting around for Houston because they can't stop screwing themselves over.

My stance is that while I would love to have an elite QB like Watson(shame on me for ever thinking Jimmy was in that class just cuz of the stats) with Kyle as HC it's not a necessity.

His scheme will give us production on offense as long as we're healthy even if that QB is Jimmy. I'm against trading away young defensive players because just look at Houston and what their record was with Watson but a weak D.

I do like this QB class but it's very top heavy to me. I can see the 49ers saying let's ride with Jimmy for this season and see what happens if we draft to build up the roster around him. IF that happens I sure as hell hope Jimmy adjusts his salary so we can ensure we're able to keep key free agents.

I also wouldn't hate Mac Jones in the first. Many people will say he'd be a reach but I like his game. He reminds me of Jimmy but with a better deep ball. His arm isn't anything special but he can make all the throws that are designed. Don't expect him to make the insane Mahomes like plays of course.

I'd like trade up for a Wilson type but with as many free agents as we have pending I feel like that's an unlikely move and I can see the team actually move down.

I don't follow this thread, so apologies if it's been discussed.

I was curious what the chances are that the 49ers actually let Jimmy G go? I read that the Patriots were ready for Jimmy to take over in New England back in 2018 and with the Patriots in need of a QB, I thought they might try and bring him back.

New England offered the Lions a 2nd round pick + a player for Stafford. Do you think that would be enough to get Jimmy or would the 49ers want a lot more?

Jimmy isn't leaving. He'll be given one more year to make it or break it unless some unreal deal fell into the teams lap. What they will do is bring in competition in camp to hopefully keep him on his A game. His problem hasn't been his play overall it's been his availability which has in turn staggered his progress or what they would hope would be progress if he played more.

I’m still not out completely on Jimmy the way most 49er fans are but if Pats offer even their 2nd rounder I’m taking that trade for sure.

I do think Jimmy has been getting bashed by 49er fans somewhat unfairly but his contract and injury history means at worst the 49ers better add a legit backup to push him or replace him in a year or so. None of this Nick Mullens/CJ Beathard ****. Those guys didn’t threaten anyone and it’s hilarious seeing some niner fans act like Mullens was better…those opinions got smashed quickly this year.

The SB results were kind of funny seeing as the Jimmy G bashing was pretty much - he’s limited because he’s a statue and he can’t throw it all over the place and people were obsessed with his air yards like they count any more towards points on the board.

Narrative was pretty much if you don’t have an elite QB who can make plays without great pass pro you’ll be hard pressed to win a SB.

Well Mahomes is arguably the best in the league at all of those things and we saw what happens when elite QB with elite weapons has bad pass protection.

End of the day it’s still a team sport. The elite QBs will certainly give you a better chance to win games but you need a solid team together or no QB will be successful in the big dance.

I’ll be curious to see how the 49ers approach this offseason. They have key free agents, key guys coming off injury and uncertainty at QB. I trust this front office and coaching staff but this offseason will be critical in how the team looks moving forward and whether Jimmy will be in the long term plans of this franchise.

The injuries are what does it for me. He missed most of 2018 because he didnt slide or go out of bounds. He missed most of 2020. How does he expect to get better if he can't stay healthy?

Sure he got hit late, but ultimately his focus wasn't on protecting himself and that's an issue. And this year proved we don't have a competent backup so our entire season rides on whether or not Jimmy stays healthy

I think the injuries have to be part of a wider cultural problem with the 9ers. We shouldnt have this many injuries. I don't know if its players not taking care of themselves off the field, if it's the training staff or what but I just want to see the team whole come next season

To add to what the others have said, yes IMO that would be enough but I don't see the 49ers moving on from Jimmy unless they got an upgrade in place. If they were able to upgrade, i think the price for Jimmy would drop bc the Niners would be desperate to move him. However unless the Niners get Watson, i dont see how Jimmy isnt the starter next year. Kyle Shanahan doesn't seem like the kind of coach that will roll with a rookie Qb.

Hopefully Verett cuts us a deal since they believed in him through multiple injuries

Trent Williams will break the bank
Would like a bigger outside receiver like Golladay
Proven pass rusher

I don't see why they would need a big WR. They have a great duo, then two great TEs. Spend the money elsewhere. Maybe a vet WR if you can get him.

Deebo and Aiyuk are a great duo, but Deebo is injury prone…

Kittle and Reed are a great duo, but Reed is injury prone…

Golladay will be too expensive and has injuries himself, but a receiver like that would be nice. Supposedly Hurd is a stud, but two back to back season ending injuries in training camp…

Resigned Varrett to a 1 year deal.

Now we need Trent Williams and K'Waun Williams. Doubt we get both…..

The #49ers are adding to their pass rush, signing OLB Samson Ebukam to a two-year deal worth up to $13.5 million, per @TomPelissero
.

Ebukam (6-3, 245) played four years for the Rams. In 2020, he totaled 4.5 sacks, 7 quarterback hits and 3 tackles for loss.

^ Interesting… Makes me wonder what is going to happen with Dee Ford?

EDIT:

The #49ers and LB Dee Ford have agreed to terms on a restructured 2-year deal worth $24M, per me and @TomPelissero
. A practical, win-win solution to an ongoing issue in SF.

Should just release Dee Ford. Can’t remember one fukn game he’s played in since coming here, but their pass rush has been so trash without Bosa, don’t think they really had an option

I think we were screwed with his injury garantee. I think his cap hit was going to be like 20 million this year. So they said fuk it and re did a 2 year deal for 24 million which in theory saves some money.
