Was invited to my girl's parent's place for dinner last night. Mom was wearing a yellow gold Cartier Ballon Bleu, my girl was wearing her cartier tank quartz. Dad busted out his Submariner Bluesie. Never knew he had one.

When I pointed out how amusing it was the men were wearing rolex and the women were wearing cartier, my girl goes over to her mom and is like "oh that's neat. cartier gang!" and proceeds to "clink" watches by bumping their bracelets together.

I nearly knocked myself dizzy by facepalming so hard. They have a family member whose a huge patek/a lange collector, and i was like "…sweetheart could you promise me as long as you live that you never bump bracelets with JonD… he may never talk to you again". I know how much i've been babying the bracelet of my DJ and how conscious I am of my wrist placement when i'm wearing it to avoid any scratch, and to see her knock bracelets together legit lit a fire in my gut. Just further confirms in my head whenever i think about upgrading her cartier to a santos, or getting her a women's tudor that she is 100% not fit to take care of either item so i'll stick to nice shoes for gifts.

I'll upload pics of the bluesie later cause i got a few wrist shots. To be fair, her dad treats his watches like **** too. Crown wasn't even screwed in all the way, tons of scratches already on the yellow gold. Having legitimate "fuk you money" has that effect on people i guess. Man looked me dead in the eyes with a straight face and said "yeah, i used to hate rolex but i've grown to love them. not to mention they're pretty cheap for watches". I was like…

This is probably one of the tackiest watches Rolex makes, but i see the appeal with the 50+ crowd thinking this is a flex. That said, wearing this further confirmed why the blue dial sky dweller sells for so much in the grey market. Rolex blue dial are just WOW. If you ever have an opportunity to pick up a stainless steel blue dial DJ41 with jubilee and fluted bezel at retail, don't ask questions just buy it immediately.

The blue dial DJ41 i had my AD order was wowing me but i didn't realize until i had it on wrist that i wanted the fluted bezel rather than smooth. But it looks SO damn good. The blue dial on this submariner popped so much, it completely overshadowed the yellow gold TT bracelet.

Edit: Man hasn't had this watch 2 years yet and it's scratched to hell, the crown isn't screwed in, and it doesn't even have the correct date set in the date window. Not sure if I should aspire to this level of "fuk it" money, or be disgusted with it.

The $300 pieces probably are best sold on ebay or reddit. What piece/s do you have around the $3,000 mark? You'll likely want to get that one listed on watchrecon. Ebay wouldn't be bad either. I hear chrono24 fees are brutal.

Grand seiko sbgw231. Ebay has a targeted promo right now where they cap your selling fee to $1 but I've never sold something this expensive on ebay. I've never sold on reddit. How hard is it to sell with no feedback?

Bruh, you’re still in the honeymoon phase. It’s a Rolex, not a Rolls Royce. Scratches give it character. Rolex was always the “workman’s” watch before it became a status symbol. Don’t let it drive you crazy.

eBay isn’t a bad option, just do local cash on collection only and say for people to message you first, usually a decent description, pics and face to face transaction will overshadow the low feedback.
eBay is my go to for selling higher valued watches (wait for the £1 selling fee)

******** marketplace isn’t a bad option also, just be prepared for tirekickers and scammers but it only takes 1 genuine buyer

I grew up on hand me down clothes, the lowest end of middle class, and the Rolex I purchased is probably 4 months wages of my mother’s salary. For all intents and purposes to me, it’s a Rolls Royce.

I don’t buy into the “Rolex is a tool watch” narrative either. I know that it USED to be. But you used to be able to walk into a AD and get a hulk at retail too. Rolex has become something different. If anything, Tudor is what Rolex was but I understand your overall point. It will just take a long time for me to get there mentally. Not sure if I even want to though (wearing 15k watches that casually)

Yesss. The French chick.

Lmao. Fed. I didn’t realize I had my fingers at that angle.

And as said above. You’ll get over the scratches. They give it character. My AK has basically a “brushed” finish on the outward by
face of the clasp now thanks to desk jockeying.

No sunset wrists shots yet. But I’m playing with the pano and various chit on this 12 pro max. Not sure how to get the img links on my imgur pics through the app. Mainly cause I might be buzzed.

I’m with you there. Scratches don’t bother me that much as long as they’re not huge gauges but I try and take care of my watches like I would anything else, no matter the value. It’s the same reason I park my car away from everyone else and walk a little further (although you still get people park right next to you).

There’s definitely a couple of crowds, those who beat their watches around and enjoy seeing it scratched and well worn, and others who enjoy it looking pristine . Each to their own!

I feel that. I might be more lax if I had one of the more “Spartan” all brushed-steel oyster bracelets like an OP or sub. But this jubilee bracelet too pretty fam lol

I was up drunk last night looking at watches. And part of me thought it would be cool to start a DJ41 collection. Maybe 3 tops but i was really liking the rosegold-chocolate dial, and the rhodium or black dials on the stainless steel variants.

The only steel sports I like are the BLNR, skydweller, and my new grail 126715. The BLNR i'll likely get at retail sometime next year. But i'd have to have 100k spend with an AD to even have a shot at the blue sky dweller at retail so i'm not even considering that as a possible purchase.

if i'm honest, the grey market price for the blue sky dweller isn't that bad at all. I've seen them for $24k which is what I'd expect for a Rolex GMT/Annual Calendar in the first place. What I might end up doing is getting my BLNR in 2021. Then for my midlife crisis piece, rather than going for the 126715, I could just purchase the blue dial SkyDweller on the grey market. It's the only piece they make where i think the msrp is actually undervalued, and I'd take a blue dial SkyDweller for $24k over a blue AP Royal Oak for $21k any day of the week.

I will soon be on BBC MWC time in this sun at the rate I’m going.

I thought something similar too about the BLNR and a royal oak. I just kept hearing how the RO was such a much more “fragile” watch in general with respect to scratches and water resistance. Yes, it’s only ever going in a pool anyway but still. I also wonder if it’s people whining about scratching their 20k watch. But I also don’t feel like buying the premiums in to get a RO at a boutique that is 600 miles away. Unless I can actually walk in and get a 41mm blue RO for retail.

Maybe bigrangz can chime in but I actually have no clue what it's like trying to get a royal oak at retail, let alone the coveted blue dial. All I know is that the one AP-AD in my city was completely void of them outside of a higher end $55,000 offshore pice. Despite being gigantic and running the length of the store, the AP case was entirely empty except for 2 models. Made some Rolex AD's I've seen look fully stocked.

If the royal oak is anywhere near as "pretty" as the jubilee dj41 i would never put myself in a position to scratch it anyway. I really need a <41mm beater watch. Green dial aqua terra might be just what the doctor ordered.

I don't have much experience with AP these days as I did when they were easy to get at a discount, but any inquiry these days for a SS RO is basically the same as a SS Rolex. I went to an AP AD months (a year?) ago and they had two fukin watches in stock, one full gold and one ugly as fuk IIRC.

The watch market is insane right now. Can't even get a DD40 at the AD anymore.

They had a yellow gold DD40 when I visited my AD a few weeks back. Good lord that bitch was heavy. It came from the main Rolex dealer in NYC and it was “with” a green sub.

I think DD40s are like DJ41s now. They may not be sitting out in the case for you to walk out with instantly, but I feel like most ADs can get you the config you want in 3 months or less, as opposed to laughing in your face as if you were asking for a Daytona with no history.

When I picked up my DJ, there were 3 or 4 DD40s in the cases but they were the higher end more exotic stuff. One was a meteorite dial. For my brand of style i'm starting to feel like i'm more drawn to the DJs and DDs. I love the fluted-roman numerals on the DD40, as opposed to the traditional romannumerals on the DJ. I didn't think I could ever like roman numerals more than the more minimalistic stick dial but these are absolutely mint.

Did you notice that every other "Roman numeral'" on the dial is actually just a stick? Someone mentioned it to me and I was like how the hell did I not see that?

My friend was offered that one, but went with YG/champagne. That RG and the WG with the same dial might be my two favorites, but can't really fault him for going with the classic.

When I was developing my newfound boner for everose, I thought this would be my midlife crisis piece for like 2 days. Then I stopped in my AD to pick up the replacement band for my Tudor.

I started speaking to the SA about my new interest in that very piece but I had never seen the dial in person. He showed me a smaller oyster perpetual that had the same green dial color. That pretty much killed my interest. In some shots i saw online, the green looked darker and more subdued but in person it seemed a touch too "playful" if that makes sense? The pairing with the everose probably puts an entirely different spin on it though.

If i were to ever get one, i imagine I would want one of the dials unique to daydates like the "quadrant motif" or the "stripe motif".

Nevermind, just realized the motif dials are only available with stick numerals. Yeah, i need to spend a lot more time discovering DDs in person.

Edit: Quadrant does come with romans, but stripe doesn't? I don't fuking know

I didn't actually. Makes sense, the dial would likely look cluttered as fuk. And now that i'm looking at them, that might be the precise reason why i hate the roman numerals on the DJ41s because they don't alternate like that and it looks a mess to me.
