Not sure what you mean? If I went used or greymarket I’d be spending 5 thousand more at least than what the AD would charge.

If you’re just strictly talking about walking in and kissing ass then yeah I agree it’s pretty gay. But if you want the cheaper price then seems it is what it is. There’s no shortage of buyers.

Pretty sure one of those two will be my next watch…probably should at least try to ass kiss at an AD instead of just assuming greymarket/used will be the only way to get one. Would be a year or two before I'd be able to make the purchase anyways so if I could get on a wait list then maybe there is hope. My family has bought a few Rolexes from them in the past so maybe there's a chance…doubt it though.

Think I’m leaning towards the BLNR since I already have a sub the GMT would be nice.
Hulk is discontinued, so no chance of that. Your dream was a real situation for me years back though. I bought the Hulk and my friend bought the BLNR.

Yeah that’s what I mean. I wouldn’t buy from anywhere other than the AD, however, this all be nice to them, blah blah, it’s not for me,m. You take my money and hand me my goods. You are a glorified cashier, thank you very much.

Think I might get an IWC Portuguese white face with the blued hands. Dunno if I want an older ETA one for like $4k-4500 or a new in house movement. Probably go with the older model. I've always hated the cut off 12 and 6 but it has really grown on me

Is the YM a six digit with platinum dial? That's been on my radar for a long, long time. Love it.

Omega, JLC, no way. Rolex if you can get it for retail then yes, a place to park your cash. Even then, I wouldn't trust OPs and DJs.

EDIT: Would not trust PM models either.

I have no clue, but PM and TT would be my first guess as to which lose the most value when the market softens. Those, followed by the "easier to get" SS pieces. There are a **** load of better places to put your money, but you don't get to enjoy the watch. Unless you're getting Daytonas or whatever at retail, I think "investing" in watches is pretty stupid. But if you can get the hot **** at retail you already know that.

I think you bought that recently? Laziness of peace and I can't bother to go back and check. I personally wear anything with anything. Rose gold, SS, G-shock, no fuks given.

Never wanted a watch as a store of value but nowadays, it seems to make more sense to spend $15k on a Rolex that I can count on to retain it's value rather than $10k on an Omega or JLC which will drop in value quickly. The picture I posted is from another user's purchase a few pages back.
A $10k stainless steel submariner would hold its value better than a two tone submariner. The two-tones on the grey market are selling for like 15-16k brand new right now, when at retail it's like $14.5k.

The $10k watch on the grey market brand new is selling for 15k. So if possible I'd go after one of the more desirable models if you don't want to lose money on it if you ever decide to sell.

But if that watch is your favorite then go for it if it'll bring you the most happiness to wear. It should still hold decent value just not to the level other models are known for.

So you're saying I could buy a stainless steel watch and sell it on the grey market for an instant 50% profit?
Yeah. lol They're the ones everyone want, but good luck finding one at an AD unless you get lucky.

Btw, is the two tone out of stock everywhere or something?
It probably does have something to do with it being a more understated piece.

I have a two tone sub, and it was a bit too flashy for my personal taste. I put it on a rubber strap and that really made all the difference for me, and I enjoy it a lot more now. When I first bought it I didn't know chit about watches, and just knew I wanted a Rolex. And I was like "wow this looks cool, and it's more expensive than the other stainless models so it'd have to hold more value." So I went with that. Later when I learned more about Rolex I realized that logic was wrong.

And yeah two-tones and stainless watches are all out of stock it's pretty crazy right now to be looking to buy a Rolex. But you could always go and check your local AD and just see what they say.

Pateks I'm sure retain their value well. But they're out of my price range so wouldn't be able to comment too much on those. And I'm sure the popular Pateks are just as hard if not harder to obtain then a Rolex. I bought my Omega used and it was a few thousand cheaper than when it was new. So for Omega I'd say pretty confidently if you buy new and try and resale later you're gonna take a bit of a hit.

The watches that retain their value well or go up are all gonna be pretty hard to obtain watches. Rolex if they wanted could pump those things out like crazy, but they limit the supply to increase the demand.

Rolex, and then every one else. Patek and AP next. Sport watches from any of them will likely hold their value depending on what you pay. The problem is that it's difficult to buy those models at retail, aka never lose money on them.

One of my next “investments” is going to be a watch. Vintage Rolex/Tudor though only way to go. Either a 1983 Pepsi GMT, vintage Root Beer GMT, Tudor snowflake, or Tudor big block chrono. This is after maxing 401k, buying rental property, etc. I see it as an investment that I enjoy.

My dad has one of those. It’s gorgeous and matches some outfits really well. Would also look amazing on a blue sailcloth strap. People can bash two tone all they want but it can really work. I think he paid like 5k for it brand new.

Had to rep you for the lulz of imagining someone going to rolex.com thinking they were just going to add a sky-dweller or daytona "to cart" but not before checking for any available 10% off codes. laugh my ass off.

Thats my watch brah

People in watch communities tend to not like it, but its been my grail watch ever since I've been interested in watches. I wear it everywhere I don't wear my Apple watch and I don't think its overly flashy, but I also like attention and am confident so I can rock just about anything (srs). There are flashier watches out there, like an AP ROO is flashier to me than a 40mm two tone sub. For what its worth, the watch does draw a fuk ton of compliments, almost everywhere it goes people stare at it and inevitably have something to say about it. It's a watch that is sure to cause a reaction in people (srs)

Buy what you like though, I've liked this watch forever so I'll probably always have one in my collection. When the sun hits the blue dial, fuark. I think its beautiful srs.

edit: just to add, the pepsi GMT would have been the second Rolex I would have bought (and still plan to buy). They're about the same price as the two tone blue sub on the used market I think. They look good with the jubilee bracelet, has a pretty red/blue/black color combo that is eye catching, and has a lot of good history behind it and is well-regarded in the watch world

Watch out your comments bro. I've got a 116655. I really love the platinum one though, as well as the rhodium. Agree about the blue. I don't think it's ugly at all, but it gets more love than I have for it.

116655 is a little pricey for what it is IMO, not a fan of the oyster flex straps. Can get a ceramic Daytona for that price. As for the Rhodium hard pass. To each his own though

Was receiving some texts from my AD the last day or two that i've been ignoring. Thought they were your usual "we've got some great valentine's day specials you may want to check out" NOPE. People just spilling all kinds of tea.

The interesting thing is that it goes beyond what we all knew (Rolex ADs selling above msrp to greys), but there was some dank tax evasion and illegal visas involved too. Its not my AD, but i remember mentally kicking myself for not starting a relationship with them since they carry a wide range of popular brands i actually have interest in Omega, JLC, etc. Looks like i dodged a bullet.

Hope they really hammer these people. Selling directly to a grey market dealer should revoke your ability to operate as a Rolex AD.

And Rolex should monitor these dealers better if they’re gonna limit supply to the extent they are. Shouldn’t have to pay 15 grand for a no date basic sub.

Yes mad.

On one hand i'm hopeful because youtubers are picking up the story, it's appearing on multiple blogs, and becoming widely talked about. You'd THINK Rolex would have to address this in some fashion.

On the other hand, this certainly can't be the first time a Rolex AD has been publicly blasted so i'm not too hopeful for a change.
