And you won't be growing your capital very well having it invested in a covered call ETF. You're better off in the long run investing in VOO… sacrificing overall return for cashflow isn't worth it (QYLD is also less tax-efficient than VOO - so not only are you making half the return, you're also getting taxed slightly more on the return you do get)

Long term return from QYLD is roughly half that of VOO
it was you. the thread was about some guy who wanted to move to SEA with only 150k or something and somebody suggested QYLD to LDAR and collect his 1500k/month. it caught my eye because it seemed like a good place to park funds since i didn't need anytime soon, but then you chimed in.

tks man. i just want something stable making "some" money. i know VOO is something you set and leave it be as well.

just canceled my order. i transferred some money over to start scaling in.

Basically, when you sell a covered call, you sacrifice future appreciation upside for cash today. It's a useful tool if you need cash NOW, but you sacrifice long-term return. Not worth it IMO, just not a very efficient way to utilize your capital to generate a return.

If somebody actually tried to move to a foreign country with only $150k in QYLD, they might get by for a while, but their capital would erode quickly. Their purchasing power would be lost to inflation and they would be in a much worse financial position after their extended vacation and they are forced to work again for income.

i see. 150k is like a 20% down on a house here in LA. I have other short and long term positions as well and thought it would have been "okay, good enough" enough for me. Just didn't want to tamper with that set amount.

after comparing what you said.

VOO 1 month market return was 2.45% compared to QYLD 1.28%
3 month was 5.46% compared to 2.5%
6 month was 19.32 compared to 4.49%
YTD was 36 % compared to 5.67%

Granted the past 6 months have been GREAT for VOO, but yeah, covered calls chit the bed when the market actually climbs (and historically, the market generally climbs… at least over the long term)

Here's another tool to compare total returns including dividend reinvestments

Yeah, that's what scares me. we're in "weird" times right now. afraid to just drop in a big amount and the "pullback" that everybody has been talking about for YEARS now happens. lol

ill check that tool when i have more time. tks

Cashed out all my stocks. Looking to invest in companies with a progressive agenda

What companies out there have big upside that are linked to LGBTQ+, open borders, climate change, defund police, and other progressive agendas? Thanks

Most woke companies operate under a big investment conglomerate. Hence the lack of vision, and lack of awareness on how their sales are doing or who their customers are.
