I was always hard on my son, but I spend a lot of time with him teaching him mechanics. He was a model student in that he listened to me and understood what I wanted him to do. Softball was the same way when my girls played. It seemed the older they got, the worse the parents got. At 10, my oldest moved away from softball and started volleyball. It hasn't been near as bad in the volleyball environment as it was in the softball. I think it also helped me to move sports also. I went from coaching the girls in softball to not knowing a damn thing about volleyball.
I actually wish she would have taken up golf.

As my boys have gotten older and are playing ball (football, basketball, and baseball) for their schools, it it nice to sit back in the stands and just watch. I enjoyed coaching, but now I can just enjoy watching them, even though the coaches are clueless.

Just enjoy the ride. They will be grown and out of the house before we know it.

His coach finally pulled him over to the side.

It was amazing how at the end of the match when he was going to have to stand face to face with me he wanted to shake my hand and he didn’t have anything to say.

I didn’t shake dudes hand. Told him his behavior was 100% unacceptable and as a Marine vet he was totally disrespecting his uniform wearing out in public to get praises and acting like a 100% jackass. He asked if I was serious. I stared him in the eyes and he walked off.

Think I had my first legit proud dad moment last night. Kid's toy had a dead battery, he went and found a screwdriver on the counter that I had forgotten was there and went to town on that battery cover. He didn't get it but was pretty damn close.

btw I finally found an acceptable truck and bought it. '08 Silverado regular cab long bed. Manual windows and locks, 4.8L, weatherguard toolbox, sprayed in bed liner. All I need now is a gun rack and a ****** hound to ride shotgun.

I hardly ever wear my uniform off base. Of course, being overseas so long where you can't wear your uniform off base has conditioned me so. Still feels weird. You're not even supposed to wear your camo uniform off base for prolonged periods.

And the way this dude behaved was one of the exact reasons we were told not to. You act like a jackass in uniform and that’s all people will remember is dickhead military guy.

I am always blown away by dudes in camouflage especially. cause we got in cams to get dirty.

But hell, it didn’t end with just military guys. I was referring a church circuit soccer games and that finally ended my any involvement in youth sports. Coach’s being jerks and were being really rude to a 16 year old female ref who was assisting me.

I tried to be rational with the one coach and asked him how Christlike it was picking on the female ref how he was and dude got angrier. He got madder.

I had already started looking for a new church to go to. They pushed me out the door harder. Yeah Christians are hypocrites but being violent over stupid things isn’t something I wanted to overlook.

I have organized, coached, and refereed many church league basketball and even soccer games. Unfortunately some of the coaches there are just as bad as the rest of the community at times. I have had to tell several of them that they could not coach any more.
