Probably a dumb question, but could I just contact an AD in Delaware and place an order for a Rolex DJ and then just drive down there to purchase it to skip sales tax?

Do boutiques ever discount or are they kunts? Sold my sub and strongly considering a VC overseas chrono, but having trouble tracking one down grey market.
They got little baby legs that stand so low

Oddly enough, it depends on the configuration of the datejust you want these days. They'll likely have none in the cases when you show up. If you ask for a two-tone they'll likely be happy to place the order and yeah should have it for you in a few weeks.

If you're looking for a stainless steel blue or rhodium dial (with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet) you could run into some "That's an allocated piece for people with history" talk. Depends on where you go.

Stop in or call and tell them to let you know if/when they get what you want, and you'll come pay and pick it up. They usually won't do the phone and shipping thing unless they know you really well.

Boutiques will discount a tiny amount in my experience, but I don't think you'll be getting anything off on an Overseas.

I'm surprised these Rolex yachmaster 16622s only sell for like $8.5k these days. I've been trying to get the new Explorer II Polar, but I'm debating just buying one of these instead… I think the polished look and the platinum is pretty cool. Basically this would be the watch I'd wear whenever I don't want to wear my two tone watch, I feel like the yachmaster I pretty much goes with any outfit and will always look good (srs) plus its not all that common, and the platinum dial/bezel and slightly different case design makes it kind of special

I was able to get out of sales tax. I ordered to it to a house I have out of state.

The patek annual calendar moonphase in solid white gold is about the same price I think, I like this watch (not my pic lol)

Those goutte bracelets look sick. There's a rose gold 5270 that's a definite 10/10.

I would be scared chitless with a gold bracelet. I can barely even walk through a doorway without scratching a steel one.

For my 40th I would like to buy a birth year Rolex. Would I be best finding a shop like Gentlemen Timpiece to find it? Or use something like Chrono24?

On Chrono I found a few, looks like in order to get papers and box I will have to up my budget and get a submariner which I don't mind but was hoping for just a day date or date just.


Any thoughts? It will be my first watch purchase and I don't know that i'd wear it often but as a heirloom to pass down and if my son goes to college and graduates I will get him a birth year as well.

But whom was what are you looking for? Any of the Omega Aqua Terra is in that line. Omega Speedy. Most of the rolex SS "entry level" models are in that range as well (Air King, Date Just, Oyster Perpetual, Milgauss)

Depends on what more specifically youre looking at. Some of the DJ41s can be had if you go talk to the AD sooner rather than later and explain your sitch. DD….if you want to jump right to that….same depending on model.

Although have never seen the aesthetic appeal to the speed master, ugly watch imho. I'd buy an elegant constellation before a speed master.

That's just preferences. I was never in love with the speedy like so many, but I did think it was a respectable watch especially after the bracelet updates. The seamaster for me always looked "porky" for the lack of a better word.

As far as a recommendation in the 6 to 8k range. That takes all rolex off the table. The Aqua Terra is a great buy around 4.5k, new Speedmaster will run close to 7k i think these days.

I'd also highly recommend the Cartier Santos. I've been wanting to love that watch forever but the medium is too small and the large is too big. Great piece though for around around 6 or 7k

I'm going to ignore my disdain for people buying "birth year rolexes", as i've always thought the cringe/corny level is too close to the "ThIs iS tHe wAtcH JaMez B0nd woRE" guys.

My concern is the bolded. If you're not a bonafide watch person, I recommend starting off buying something cheapish you could get most of your money back on if you do decide to sell. Omega Aqua Terra is a great choice here if you buy grey. Wear it for a year and see if you even enjoy wearing watches, because you're going to add grey hairs to your head trying to navigate the schitshow that is the vintage rolex market just to find out you may not even wear the damn thing. My humble two pennies, but do whatever the fuk you want mang.
