I really like this one. What color way did you go with? In for pics later
Same colorway as the pics in the article you posted. It is actually the only colorway themed for the Olympics. I love it cause it's very versatile, I was originally going to get the blue face on the blue strap, but it was too much, this white face/ blue bezel on the blue strap is going to look amazing, I'm going to order the strap this week.

So, you bought a watch because it was "respectable" in the eyes of others, not because you actually liked it? That may come across as being a try hard.

The seamaster is far far from "porky", the submariner IS porky as fuk. The seamaster wears a lot smaller than a 42mm watch. I have a tiny ass wrist and it looks perfect on me.

I tend to agree on the seamaster. But i dont think the chunkiness or portliness is about literal size, but more how the dial/bezel look in combo. It just makes it look….bulbous?

Did you perhaps get triggered that I perceive the seamaster to be porky, and respond emotionally? I ask because I reread what I posted and I can't find even the slightest insinuation that I:

A) Purchased the speedmaster at all
B) Thought it "respectable in the eyes of others"
C) Did A because B

Literally said " I did think it was a respectable watch". Complete knee jerk fabricated assumption mane.

One of dozens of watches that have ton of bang for buck, but no one wants to really own because they know deep down they're going to spend 8k - 10k on it, and no one in public will recognize it. Awesome piece though.

I’ve seen people go so far as to try and match the exact nato strap color from Goldfinger. Lmao. I’m pretty convinced that if it’s a Rolex, and it came with a bracelet, it should stay on the bracelet most (if not all) of the time. Rolex makes them too well to swap them out. Thats coming from a guy who almost exclusively wears leather straps. I posted a pic of a DJ that I once put on leather while taking douchey double up pics. It did nothing for me. The jubilee was the way to go on that model.

Obviously, models that come in leather or rubber straps originally are excluded from this. I’ll include one more exception as well-when you are trying to tone down a two tone watch, and can match the dial with rubber.

I’ll make an exception for that one too, since it’s really hard to screw up that watch. Size/elegance/simplicity combo is fantastic. I prefer it to the Exp 2 tbh.

I mean the modern ones, absolutely. But another reason i don't get the birth year datejust thing is because they're made like schit compared to modern datejusts. The gold is usually 14k rather than the 18k they use now, plus I'm pretty sure the jubilee bracelets back then are hollow bullschit that bend with time.

"But this was the rolex that was released when I was born" Yeah, and it's garbage compared to what you can buy now.

I 100% get the charm of many vintage watches, but rolex isn't the brand I'd look to for said charm. You're owning a poverty version of a Rolex, and still paying a Rolex markup relative to other brands with solid vintage offerings (JLC, Omega, Longines). Which reminds me, if there's a vintage flex to be had it's Longines because once upon a time they were legit.

But I'm just bitchy cause stocks/crypto are booboo this week so everyone just ignore me.

Wear it for a year and see if you even enjoy wearing watches, because you're going to add grey hairs to your head trying to navigate the schitshow that is the vintage rolex market just to find out you may not even wear the damn thing. Understood and thank you. I'm a watch guy, from afar……I enjoy the looks, the prestige, quality, and the craftsmanship. The birth year is to make it special with a story, if I get a Rolex brand new then ok its a brand new Rolex. If its a birth year, it would be a great story piece and when my son graduates give him a birth year matching model as well. I have nothing really but life insurance to pass to him and would like to start with some heirlooms. I have owned a few watches, nothing impressive but they looked good to me. If I go into spending thousands I want it to be my way or no way.

Eventually after my purchase there are a few other Rolex models and other brand models I would be looking at to purchase.

Same. I even like the black with the orange second hand. But shame we'll never be able to get one at retail.

Don't you think your kid would rather have a watch that you bought, wore and enjoyed, rather than some watch that you bought just because it happened to be possibly made during a certain year? I'd want a watch from my dad that I associated with him, not just some old watch I ended up with one day.

My bad, I misread what you posted. No excuses, but I was on my way out to work and did a quick read/post before heading out the door.

But, yeah the speed master has never done anything for me. And the sea master wears super small.

Like i mentioned, i thought the same thing. Even made fun of the "penor" shape at 12. As soon as i put one on the first day i moved back and visited the new local AD i went "im going to end up with one of these."

Firstly, just lol.

Secondly, this is exactly the same thing as Tudor and the faux-rivets. I was one of those people talking schit about them, but when I tried on the Tudor Chrono, literally didn't even know they were there.

If he buys one he better ask for a discount. But speedy's can be ones that certain dealers dont discount sometimes given their popularity.

I really like this one. What color way did you go with? In for pics later. Might have to get me one of those. The 300m divers have really grown on me. But also would like an explorer 2. Decisions decisions.
Here it is boyo.

Looks better irl, on my way to get the blue rubber strap now, hopefully they have it in stock at the AD I'm visiting.
