Been looking at some watches recently and got drawn to Zenith.

I'll say I'm not really a watch guy but I have a passing knowledge of it from my friends and I have been to watch clubs, have a Hodinkee book on watches because I admire the engineering, craftsmanship, and aesthetics of a well designed watch. It may be because I appreciate menswear and personal style.

While I own an Omega Seamaster and a Tag Heuer that are both my dad's I wanted something eventually that matches my personality.

I wanted an Omega Speedmaster for the longest but having small wrists at 6.5" I need something between 38 - 42mm.

Then I saw the Zeniths. What does everyone think?

Brah, you kinda sound like a watch guy ha

Speedys definitely wear smaller…they even have reduced version which is 38.5mm.

That being said, I love the Zenith play on exclusivity alone. At least in my experience they're not a common watch. Also the dial on the Zenith is more attractive.

Some pics I've seen do show the dial to be a bit darker, but yeah I believe it's just lighting…to my knowledge Omega doesn't/didn't make a darker grey version.

I'll say if definitely looked better irl than it does on the Omega site. Same with the white dial version.

Go try a speedy on. I have just shy of a 7" wrist and was shocked how "small" it wore.

How about the "full size" ?

The reduced just seemed oddly proportioned to me. Had a daytona on the wrist a few times, and it basically felt/looked the same as my speedy.

Yes, it looks way too much like the Daytona, which is ironic since Zenith used to make the movement for the Daytona a couple decades ago. Good watches though and the El Primero is legendary.

That definitely looks daytonaish. There are some beautiful defy extremes and defy el primero 21s, but I think they're all too big.

I like zeniths but i hate that my brain essentially puts them in the same bucket as Oris. Even knowing all the history around the el primero. They just have dogschit branding/marketing. Even the "star rotors" on the movements look asinine. Could never own one myself.

The zenith and the daytona are intentionally similar. Its a beautiful watch but be careful of the possibility remorse if it starts to remind you that you originally wanted a daytona.

For this reason I like the Omega Speedmaster 9900 panda and the Tudor Black Chrono panda. But the speedy is a little big, so id get the Tudor. Also the Tudor is slightly cheaper.

Can confirm Tudor Chrono is an awesome high quality piece. Even more so if it's in a rotation and you don't have to rely on it to be dressy. The 10k price on the zenith is pretty egregious when you realize you can get a tudor chronograph AND a JLC Reverso for around 12k.

Was texting with my AD today and he told me to ask for bigger pieces because he thinks he can get me allocation.

Let’s see if I can get a rainbow Daytona.

I get you but hard to say. Market price for the zenith after discount is probably closer to $9500 and the Rolex you could be able to "obtain" for 9k-10k is not going to even be a no date sub.

It's funny, the Tudor Chronograph I had never even seen pics of or thought about until the AD brought out the back room and I couldn't be happier with it.

On the flipside, i'm actually starting to have buyer's remorse for the blue DJ41. I was certain as soon as I had it, I would sell the sundust and be happy. While I do really love the blue dial, the all silver jubilee and and fluted bezel… it just doesn't hit the same as the wrist presence of the TT Rose Gold.

It wouldn't be that big of a deal if I could swap the blue dial for a BLNR but there's about a 5k difference between the two (grey market pricing). Feeling hella salty right now.

It's 100% more timeless and classic than the everose sure, but the everose is just way more pleasing to look at for me. I guess what i'm saying is that i'd rather have the BLNR over the blue datejust for an all steel piece. Eventhough the BLNR would definitely cramp on the Tudor's wrist time.

Last time I was buying at my AD, the store manager was talking about her experience when "the" rainbow rolex came in and she opened the box. It was definitely sounding like they get 1 every year if not every other year.

Judging by the people i've seen in photos wearing the piece, and by how the store manager was talking about it… it seems like you pretty much have to be a high spending best friend of the owner of the AD you shop at, or someone of Cristiano Ronaldo/Naomi Osaka type fame.

On another note, I think i'm back to pursuing the BLNR. I'm going to get rid of the blue dial datejust. Now the only decision I need to make is if I want to pursue oyster bracelet or jubilee.

Knowing the owner isn’t enough. They have to get corporate approval.

Not at all. I know there are people with bigger spend history than me. This is a watch that retails for 96 and is selling for 350k. It should be hard to get.

Nothing i didn’t know. I remember earlier in my career, when I was making a 75k salary, i was preparing a tax return for a hedge fund manager. He had brought in 10s of millions, but due to certain deferrals that existed, he paid less tax than I did. That was the first time I saw it and realized how disadvantaged w2 workers are.

Also propublica report is very misleading. Tax is not supposed to be on net worth. If everyone had to pay tax on net worth increases, there would be an annual sell of of appreciated assets just to be able to pay the tax.

Funny thing is seeing everyone foam at the mouth at that hedge fund manager instead of the politician who set up the ground rules.
