yeah i have tiny 6.25" wrists which is why i wanted to go for a 36mm watch. honestly though part of me wants to just say fukk it and buy a vintage 1601/1603 36mm datejust in steel or two-tone for like $5k and call it a day.

No hate, but i don't get the "thing" around birthyear datejusts. Just seems like stupid millennial hipster cope for wanting a datejust, not being able to afford a datejust, so going down the nauseating rabbithole that is vintage rolex shopping.
Plus i think the vintage ones suck. Hollow links so the jubilee bracelets bends over time, fluted bezel isn't as sharp, poverty movement… just no. Only benefit is that they are so trash in comparison to modern datejusts that people don't mind throwing straps on them to make them more unique and personable. Cause just EL OH EL at voluntarily removing the most stunning bracelet ever created that is the modern day jubilee.

ah fuk… response from my AD. i'm scared to go in to find out what kind of 360 double backflip through a flaming hoop one is required to do to get one these now.
"…in regards to the rose gold GMT II, very tough to acquire right now. Things have definitely changed in terms of being "approved" for "hot" timepieces. When you get a chance I'd love to chat with you around this. Let me know what works with your schedule"
It's going to be 1 of 2 things. The unspoken but strongly suggested request of buying jewelry or a schitty model in pairing with it. In which case i'd just buy grey because they aren't marked up that much over retail when you factor in taxes. OR i have to wonder they might want proof you have the money to own this watch and not just flip it. I've never heard of this anywhere, but it would make sense.

Don't think i'd ever truly buy a Lange1 though. Couldn't pay 30k for a watch i'd wear like 3 times a month.

buuuutttt since i am still kinda on that poverty time and don't want to wait like a year or more (which is what my AD said it might take to get me a 36mm OP or explorer) it's probably my easiest way to get into the rolex world and get a DJ.
i'm still on the fence though, i mean it's not like i really NEED a rolex. i think my current poverty watch collection (square g-shock, 1960s omega seamaster, seiko monster) covers most of my bases, but part of me just wants to sell the omega and the seiko and put that money towards something nicer.

Got a response back. Going into the AD tomorrow to talk it out. I'll update the thread on how it goes.
If your budget is around $6,000, and you're really considering a vintage DJ you should ask yourself this. What happens when you spend $6,000 on the vintage datejust then you get the call for the explorer next August? Would you be able to eat another $6,000 watch? Cause good luck trying to sell that vintage one to pay for it. If the answer is no, you shouldn't even be considering the vintage one cause you'll want to rope when you do get the call.
In that case, you're better off getting a non rolex piece that also holds its value, then you can sell it for when you do get the call. Omega Aqua Terras have almost just as many config options as a DJ, gorgeous polished center links, and can be bought/sold for $4500 all day long. The Cartier Santos i have tried on in boutiques no less than 4 times because i like it that much, it just doesn't work for my proportions but again… can be bought and resold for around 6 to 7k. Tudor BB58, Chronograph, and GMT same thing.
TLDR: unless your dad/grandad is handing one down to you, there is no reason anyone should fuk with vintage rolexes to scratch their first rolex itch. Just begging for buyers remorse.

My first watch was an Oris Artix GT Chronograph i bought for $1300. Second watch was a Tudor Bronze i paid $3800. Then i jumped to the TT DJ. Given your current collection, it sounds like you also genuinely like watches and aren't just chasing a rolex crown logo.

All Rolex watches seem to be sold out everywhere. Gotta get them from overseas now.

In addition to this, I would also advise not getting into vintage Rolex unless you REALLY know what you're doing. It's a minefield out there.
