Gonna need a price range as I'm no wizard. And sporty and elegant doesn't tell us much. You can also buy a black leather strap and put it on most watches.

There are very few watches who's metal bracelets can't be taken off (unless by taken down you mean in size, cause they should all be size able).

That would mean you could swim with a speedy (3atm) however that is BS.

Check out waterresistant as it doesn't mean a straight up correlation between the atm and depth.

I wouldn't. There is a large difference between airtesting to 5 ATM and dropping into a pool. The way water resistance is measured is a strong con artist trick imo. Serves nothing but to mislead the uneducated.

The watch should be fine, but with an emphasis on should. You'd probably not get your guarantee on waterdamage. Rain should really be fine. But if you are going for a leather strap why bother, the strap will be ruined anyway.

Hope you all don't wreck new posters in here but i come to ask a question as i want to start to get into watches, its been something i've been meaning to do for some time now.

What is the general consensus of the MVMT watches? i saw them on instagram and really liked the simple design. If they are not so good from a watch collectors perspective then what are some makers who make similar watches?

They're basically not watches, from a collector's perspective. If you like it, buy it. But it's just a fashion watch, so it's really just style. It's inherently cheaply made and has no horological value at all. I don't mean it to sound harsh and I'm not saying don't buy it if you like it, just that it basically doesn't belong in this thread.

To elaborate a little, fashion watches are usually just cheap quartz watches made to appeal to people looking for a certain aesthetic. Nixon, Michael Kors, MVMT, etc. are all fashion watches. They cost like $5 to manufacturer in China and really don't have anything going on that would interest a "watch person."

It's up to you if you just want a quick buy or if you want to go down the rabbit hole with us watch weirdos.

It's also wise to remember that water resistance means fuk all if you're stepping into a hot shower/hottub, I nearly lost a diver to a temperature change like that.

just a simple leather banded watch like the ones from the site i linked. im not sure how much specifics you want here but i just like simplicity for now

In that price range, your common options would be Timex, Seiko, or Orient. I actually really like the Timex Waterbury series and I have one as a beater watch. Also have a Weekender. Seikos are good but they don't really make them in that style. Same goes for Orient.
