Have been wanting this watch for a long time. I ended up buying a Seamaster pro instead as my first non-seiko/microbrand diver. Still may buy one if I see one pop up for a good price

Getting my Seamaster serviced. Since my dad owned it I doubt he ever got it serviced so I will have it back in about 6 - 7 weeks.

Three heavy hitters. I asked the owner of my AD if he could get me the meteorite, and he said he'll put me down but doesn't think he'll even be able to get one for the couple of people in front of me.

in other news i sold my AP RO chrono last spring to partially finance a real estate purchase, for 47k…. CAD… FML

Ayyy..we've all been there either selling or turning down a buy. I turned down 5711's at 25k, 5167 at much less, my buddy was offered the RG Olive DD you have from a notoriously hard to get chit from AD here and turned it down (I send him a chrono link once in a while just to lmao at him).. You probably netted positive with your real estate though, so no biggie.

If I may ask, whats the cost and conversation like when picking out someone to service it? Just go to authorized seller who also services?

Thanks man! I've smoked in every car I've owned, sometimes even cigarettes. Unless you're doing it every day, it doesn't stick.

i've had a relationship with my dealer for the last 10 years. was buying stuff before the market was hot, so i still can get some pieces from time to time. dealer has rolex, lange, VC, use to have AP but they moved to boutique only fml. don't have patek either.

feel bad for the people just getting into the hobby though. these days you have to spend hundreds of thousands to get assigned "hot" pieces, which is basically every rolex now.

Yeah I went into a Rolex dealer a couple weeks ago and they had empty display cases plus a bunch of catalogues, not that I was expecting much

Not overly interested in paying current prices after the asset inflation we've seen during the last two years – have prices for Patek and Lange blown up in the same way?

Those pieces you have are some nice treasures. I love that meteorite dial.

Is BeckerTime on eBay a decent seller for pre-owned Rolex?

Any other suggestions? I'm looking for a Datejust 36mm Jubilee. I'd prefer to keep it <$4k, but not sure if that is possible in this market.

They seem legit, but it looks like they have a lot of aftermarket work done on a lot of their Rolexes, so make sure you know what you're buying.

Found a decent 1979 16030 DJ locally. I got the guy down to $4k cash. No papers, but the guy has an extensive positive feedback history on several watch forums. The Jubilee band was a β€œmust have” for me. Should I pull the trigger?

Hate me or not, I got this and its actually pretty decent quality. I think this will fuel my desire to get a Rolex. I like the feel, the dial, and all in all wear ability.

not hating at all, but i don't understand the appeal of replicas one bit. i'd much rather have spent that $120 on an actually good watch. but hey to each their own, this watch hobby is all about having fun.

Edit: not coming off argumentative……curious if I am missing out on something. Not yet ready to spend 1k on a watch so keeping it lower than 300$ and even lower than that for now.

Can you show me what you'd get for 120?

This watch has:

Miyota movement (not great but works)
Sapphire crystal
Solid links
100m water
Screw down crown

Not really a clone, just homage……has their brand on the dial. lol not splitting hairs but also most people wouldn't know its a Rolex homage because not many know about the bamboo dial……It's still new af yeah? I think it came out last year?

Are you wanting this watch just to be able to say you own a Rolex?…you're at 4k, just save your $$ a little longer and buy your Rolex…not someone else's.

This hands down…Seiko is pretty much the premier brand at that price point.

Also, I'm in the camp of not digging the homages/replicas…be your own brand.

for that price i'd probably stick with orient or seiko. i'd spend an extra $10 and get this: https://www.amazon.com/Orient-FAA020.../dp/B01AK5TQXG

very reputable brand (under seiko epson corporation)
in-house movement with hacking and handwinding
200m water resistance with screw down crown
excellent lume
day + date complications

the only cons are the mineral crystal and the bracelet, but for the price i'm willing to overlook that and both issues are solved if you step up to a different orient (like the kamasu) closer to that $250-300 price range.

and you're right, most people (unless they're enthusiasts) won't think it's a rolex because of that bamboo dial. but still, i personally would not feel comfortable wearing a knockoff regardless of what other people think. but again to each their own.

I have this Seiko already, honestly I can mod them and put a sapphire on it but I don't think Seiko has anything else I want;

I did get an Orient watch, returning it because it doesn't look right on my writs.
