This.

Only posers and hype riding ****s would argue otherwise.

You too can spend 50k on montblanc pens and watch winders for a slight chance of being able to try on one at the local AD.

Sister in Geneva now to make commercial for new Rolex watch(she makes commercials in Europe and lately it’s been watch companies due to the docu she made and they like it). She said only very few are allowed to see it and once inside their building, it is like a secret agent HQ cuz someone in suit always following you.

The marketing factor that Rolex has is that it's the original for a bunch of the popular styles of watch. Divers, GMT, etc–Rolex invented it.

The moonwatch is the big thing Omega has going for it. It's the "only watch certified by NASA," and is probably the most recognizable chronograph out there. It came out in 1957 whereas the Rolex Daytona didn't come out until 1963. It's great for Omega that they were able to get Seamasters into the James Bond movies, but I think they really need to lean into the Speedmaster if they want to differentiate themselves from Rolex.

This is common knowledge in the watch community, but people fraud about not caring about the prestige. No one spends even 3k on a watch without wanting recognition otherwise we'd all be rocking daniel wellingtons or casios. You'd have to go to the ends of the earth to find any collector that has an omega ABOVE the standard steel speedy professional (precious metal, darkside/greyside of the moon pieces), that doesn't already have 2 or 3 rolex in the tuck for ego.

I no longer own a Rolex, but I totally get it. These days, everything else seems like what you buy after a solid Rolex. Unless you are in Patek+ territory. I’m not sure where I want to go next, which will probably take a few years for me. That solid sports Rolex? The Fifty Fathoms that will never fit my wrist? Or the FP Journe that I’ll be saving for at the cost of other things I should be saving for? Or maybe I’ll make enough at some point. This chit is a trip, a journey, IMO. Watches just seem like landmarks of other things.

I remember being so damn proud of buying this used Longines and doing a chit job of cutting the strap to sort of fit the lugs.

Looking through old pieces over the years is a trip brah.

I could win the powerball tomorrow and the ONLY Rolex I would contemplate getting is a Rose gold chocolate Daytona on a black rubber strap.

Rolex doesn't even register in my personal list of holy grails.

Not everyone rides the hype train.

Looks like it's just for lefties too. Quite the plot twist for rolex. I'm sure someone will like it. Not my cup of tea though. I just don't get the obsession with green on watches. I thought the hulk submariner was hideous, and the "kermit" was underwhelming af. This thing? It's nice i guess, but not for me

Exactly my sentiments.

I want a Lange1, but my dress style wouldn't really compliment a dress watch. Certainly not a $35,000 one. Suppose i could always get the Lange Odysseus right? Sure… if I had $90,000 laying around for a stainless steel watch.

Okay so what about the Glashutte Panomatic Lunar? The poor man's lange which i like almost equally as much. Still that's 7 to 9k on a dress watch…

Omega Speedy Professional? Eh, I'd rather get the grey side of the moon but it is a gigantic beast of a watch for $10k.

The most likely scenario is that i get a grey-market Grey Side of The Moon speedmaster as my next piece. That's just the thing about the watch space. There's tons of pieces I like, but not enough that i would justify swiping my card on them.

Wish they made the air king in a womens size. My sisters a pilot and she’d like that.

I’m thinking her safest bet is just a jubilee fluted bezel date just in blue or silver.

Agreed on the green. Yes i know that sounds weird coming from a AK owner, but i'd argue the AK just has some green accents and other colors to make it pop. I thought it was a lefty twist, which was odd.

For the "new" AK (i think, have been swamped for work and assuming that's one of them), my guess is it's just adding lume to indices or numbers? The only lume on an AK right now is the 12 o clock/hands. The 3-6-9 are white gold.

It looks great, the only thing that concerns me is the length of the lugs. It’s weird, the usualy FF is huge with short lugs, the Bathyscaphe is reasonably sized with long lugs. You’ll never really know how it works until you put it on though.

wristlet crew checking in…feelsbadman

although there are some positives tbh, like being able to rock vintage 34mm watches and have them look normal sized on my wrist

Oddly enough, my favorite watch was from Hermes. Only world-timer i can readily think of that doesn't look like absolute goop. Every brand that tries to do a world timer… always feels compelled to make colored backgrounds and it always looks a ****ing mess. doing everything in black makes this look super tasteful even if i do hate how the straps attach to that fixed bar.

New AK is just an added crown guard and the removal of all the green mini markers i think.

That's gorgeous. Agreed world timers are normally too busy. I like the JLC as it's an all out effort to be as crazy as possible with it. For actual time telling though… that Hermes wins.

Hermes may be new to the watch game, but they are taking it seriously. Totally in-house, solid designs, and some significant complications. They also have something that most other watch brands lack: mass appeal with women. I’m interested to see how this plays out in the long run.

I realized I never posted the movement of the new watch here, so I’ll do that now. Apologies for not including it with the original post.

Anyone been following the timepiece gentleman saga? Lmao sht netflix need to book this

Cliffs:
- Couple of guys start youtube channel about a day in the life of a grey market watch seller
- start getting decent views and big sales
- one of the guys (anthony) starts spending absolutely insane money on lambo, g wagon, $16k dinners etc
- ends up moving to LA to start a new branch, takes film guy with him as well as couple other people
- gets leaked that he funds his watch purchases/lifestyle by being a gay escort giving tuggies to sugar daddy's under the alias of Travis baker
- gets Annexed from his TPG team (tpg now gets called tug piece gentleman)
- loses all his crew
- fakes a robbery
- is now looking for a new investor to fund his lifestyle/ tv show ideas

Lmao
