dont bother, he's another jackass who thinks watching bill nye appearances on the tonight show makes him clever. The yields from space travel have been low for a while. The cold war space race was really just one big dick measuring contest with the USSR. NASA and the US government have kinda been lowkey pointing this out for years...hence why so much of the legwork has been outsourced to the ESA and China/India.

Brb a quick google search says 84% of the world has religious beliefs of some degree. Lol you think the remaining 16% saying "p-p-please st-st-stop" is going to do anything? I'm personally not religious but some people have been shown to find happiness and meaning by pursuing their faiths. You just going to tell people to stop being happy because you don't like it. Piss off

Absolute rulers had delusions of grandeur?? Never...

Power. Corrupts.

Like it or not, neither Khmer Rouge or the Socialist Workers Party were designed as religions nor did they encourage religiosity...yet they murdered millions. There is no difference. The killers and abusers will kill and abuse. Religious presence or otherwise.

It's about human advancement, the exploration of the unknown. It's about achieving something extraordinary as a race, just as it was with the first man in space and the Moon landing. Do I really need to explain this? This is not just some ****ing investment that needs a return, this is so much bigger.
Not sure why I'm even bothering explaining this to the people who picked Trump as a Republican nominee...

As an atheist I respect religion because many preach selflessness, charity, and responsibility for one's own actions. Unfortunately, in the US over 80% of atheists are liberals, and their has been an accelerating slide on the left toward a victim mentality and finding someone to blame for your problems rather than taking responsibility and proactively fixing your problems.

Unfortunately despite preaching self responsibility, religiosity is correlated with a decreased ability to delay gratification, which is which an overwhelming amount of people in the criminal justice system identify as religious -- believing in a god doesn't prevent them from doing whatever they want, because they don't believe that whatever they do matters.

you retard. Soviet union starved half of the Volga region in the 50s to the point of cannibalism so that they can be first in space. You sort of look like one of those starving people, but judging by your arrogance you would't understand what that is. If you are a left supporter, then you know how many folks are hurting because of the debt to GDP ratio, strugglign to pay bills, workign paycheck to paycheck having to finance everything. THATS CALLED DEFLATION AND IS A RESULT OF ****TY FISCAL POLICY

jesus i did not mean to loose my temper here but you dumb liberals really push me over the edge

Everyone has their own set of beliefs, whether codified in an organized religion or not. What ultimately matters is how you conduct yourself. Stop projecting your own failures upon faith or lack thereof.

There are no answers, only questions and proposed theories. Philosophy doesnt seek to merely buy one entry into heaven, if thats what you surmise then the problem may be due to your own interpretation rather than the religion itself.

The only problem I have with the lack of belief is that no one seems to stand for anything or believe in anything anymore. Only what they dont want. These unending smugness, where people think because of the democratized forms of information accrual (and I mean the internet - though its now hardly what I would call democratized) that they're somehow smarter than anyone else.
My posts so far directly addressed the thread title and why scientific communities coming together to banish religion would never work. You don't have to explain what science is and what its aims are, I'm fully aware.

When I said "Until science can somehow fill that void of uncertainty, people will keep flocking to the snake-oil merchants", what was implied (and clearly went unnoticed) is that it could never happen because it's impossible, for the exact reason you stated - "Science is not religion"

Also, I don't think I've interpreted religion in any other way than it was meant to be interpreted, which is "be good and you'll be rewarded in the afterlife, be bad and you'll suffer enormously for eternity". I think those are common themes in every religion.

I do agree with your points about the lack of belief in the world, but in my opinion it's more directly attributable to the "divide and conquer" strategies of most governments. What's really lacking in the world isn't "belief", it's cohesion and solidarity.

In establishing further human dependence on the state, one key step is to remove beliefs/dependence on ideas outside of the state. I'm not really an NWO type of guy, but a lot of that stuff is based on reality. With future economies (after large job losses due to automation) uncertain right now, I think there is some preparation for state dependence that has been underway for a while now (see all various forms of divisiveness continuously fed to you by all forms of media now).
It's not an NWO thing, it's just an inevitable consequence of democracy as a system of government and the inevitable growth of government power. Once people figure out that they can vote themselves "free" things taken from other people, they'll vote in candidates who will promise them free things, then they and their children and their chidren's children will vote in more candidates who will promise them more free things, and the government will grow in size and power and hand out more things. Eventually the majority of the population becomes dependent on the government redistribution things to them in order to live and the system collapses. The inevitable consequence of democracy is despotism.

What makes you think people would believe him if he shows up? People think they're too knowledgeable that they'll try to force him to show proof, he shows it to one person, then more people gonna ask for proof, Lord will end up providing proof for eternity and still won't be able to convince everyone he exists.

"A Georgia State University study published in the academic journal Theoretical Criminology suggests that religion helps criminals to justify their crimes and might "encourage" it.[39] The research concluded that "many street offenders anticipate an early death, making them less prone to delay gratification, more likely to discount the future costs of crime, and thus more likely to offend".[40]"

The only thing I can find good in religion is the sheltering and feeding of the homeless. Otherwise most of religion I know has been used to;

-justify wars
-Kings ordering catholic clergymen to burn books to keep people stupid so peasants are forced to worship kings.
-Set the human race back technologically by hundreds if not thousands of years by The burning of the Library of Alexandria which was said to house all of the worlds written knowledge about the sciences mathematics physics and medicine.
-The Dark Ages
-burning people for being witches

Whereas most of the sciences has been involved in;

-The Industrail Revolution
-The birth of the automotive industry
-The ability to harness artificial light and electricity in our own homes
-advancements in medicine antibiotics, vaccines and antidotes for insect and poisonous animal inflictions
-traveling to space
-The atomic bomb which can be seen as a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.

If he is infinitely powerful that means he is infinitely intelligent as well and he wouldn't waste his time convincing people that he exists, would he now?

God doesn't give a chit if you believe in him or not tbh. He has other things to do like maintaining 1 billion galaxies.

so...what...should the human race just stay on earth forever and ever? Most of the exploration that is occurring now will not be relevant for our or probably even our grandchildrens generation, but if we get off this rock colonize another and find resources to mine on another world you better believe planet hopping will be a big deal in the near future....but we gotta start somewhere, even if its sending $10million dollar probes to analyze dirt samples that die in a dust storm after a few months use, thats still better than sitting on our asses on earth.

Oh, and you can thank the "worthlessness" of NASA for your GPS and satellite TV as well.

If they find another habitable planet you think your going with? you think your grandchildren are going with? think again buddy boyo. top 1% would be rounded up and the ugly stupid peasants will be left here to waste away. And I agree with that.
