Trust me that is not the case. They live modestly for what he makes, and only have one car because of public transit being readily available, etc.

But more importantly than that this isn't the first mention of this kind of behavior. He has said he is reluctant to buy a new video game, meals, etc before because he knows when his wife looks at bank statements she will flip due to the items being non essential.

He says NO ...they get into argument...she goes into her room slams the door.... few days later she gets what she wants.... Its either that or DRAMA and my friend just prefers to give in. Its not only them though ... 98% of the people i know especially guys my age are whipped and behave exactly the way my friend above does. For christ sake even my sister is the head of household. She manages finances , she makes decisions on everything , and she is the boss. I have told my sisters husband many times i dont know how he does it because i am the type of person that i have to be in control of my life.

We have always had separate accounts but any purchases over ~$100 we usually let eachother know.

I'm in charge of all the finances and my wife and I are equally frugal and have the same thoughts on debt, spending etc. Perhaps your friend is an idiot with finances and spends everything he makes.

Thats the thing when you're married, if you are married to an idiot, they can take you down with them. If your wife had a bad spending habit, say gambling for example, would you not step in before she sent the both of you to the poor house?

That said, I can't imagine having my wife "take care" of that for me. I was in good financial shape before she met me, she doesn't feel right about spending someone elses money. Guess I'm lucky to have a wife that respects me.
