My friend owns a few dealerships that sell new Kia and Hyundai. Also has a used deal too. Anyway, it's not in the greatest area anymore, so the people that come in don't have the greatest credit to say the least.

He always tell stories about people coming in and buying new cars, but since their credit is so chit that they are paying like 600-900 a month for a car that should in reality cost you about 200-250, but since their credit is so bad that bank will only finance them at like 20%+ interest rates.

I'm surprised you're allowed to even buy trucks in California.

Aren't they bad for the environment?

My Audi A4 lease is up in about a year. Great car but I hate paying for it, going to get a new Honda Civic for 1/2 the price.

how long was your lease/what were you paying per month? I'm taking a job soon where I am a liaison role and will be picking up clients/suppliers and so will be needed to get a decent car soon, so I was interested in an A4 myself.

There is ALWAYS money down at a lease signing. It is extremely rare to see no money down lease unless the payment is high as fuk. Or they charge per mile.

Buying new cars is usually such a bad deal unless you have the liquid to pay for it in huge chunks. I've seen people who get new Cars and drive them to the ground in like 2-3 yrs. Also wtf is the point of getting the fully loaded on a fukking truck. I guess I'd never drive one unless I had a business that required it.

The two are not related. mileage has nothing to do with money down in United States...ever.

The amount of 0 due at signing leases I do are ridiculous, it is extremely common. The ads will say things like 199 per month with 3,000 due at signing. If you want 0 due at signing be prepared for your payment to now be 289 plus all applicable taxes and fees

As long as they can afford the payment everything is cool. The problem manifests sometime down the road when their car is a broken down pos that they owe 50k on and can't find a lender to float them another 30k for a new car or charge prohibitively high interest rates.

Paid cash for used car crew. Since most vehicles depreciate the idea of negative equity is hard for me to wrap my head around, since everyone outside of rare collector cars is "underwater" on day 2 of ownership. Equity to me means that it is an asset. And while having a car in my garage gives me value, I don't consider it an asset. If buy a used car for 25k cash and rack up 20k miles a year then sell it 3 years from now it will be worth less than 25k. Furthermore, the longer I own it the less it is worth. Doesn't seem like an asset to me.

The only difference is I paid my depreciation up front (after being paid interest while saving) and financed "owners" are doing the reverse. If I sold the car for 15k I have paid 10k for luxury of having car at disposal, but if I financed and am underwater I lose the same amount but then have to pay interest on it for the term of new loan. Which again is only a problem if they can't afford the new payment.

Lease my car, 800+ credit, not a single f' given.

When I was younger and made way less money, I always bought my cars. I liked the idea of not having a payment. Only had 2 cars over the last 14 years (prior to June).

Switched to lease for my current car. At this point, convenience + new car every 2-3 years is worth it to me. If you have all your ducks in a row, there is nothing wrong with treating yourself to a nice vehicle.
