I'll explain it a bit dumber for you bro...
If youre in a fight, it will prob go to the ground at some point anyway. If youre on the ground his friends might jump you.
If his friends jump you and you know bjj you might survive. If you dont, youre fuked 100%.
Very simple.

People that know how to fight but cant fight one the ground go full tard when they hit the floor. As in the dont know which way is up and stuff. A bjj fighter will have the spacial awareness on the floor and dexterity to cope better with being jumped than you are coping with the fact that bjj is a FIGHT not a sport.
Also what do you think my mates are gonna do if i get jumped? Record it and shout wurlstar?

There is absolutely no way bjj would not help you in a street fight, 1 on 1, or being jumped.

Deal with it.

anything can happen in a fight. a simple punch could cause a guy to fall and crack his skull on the pavement causing brain damage. a choke, if held long enough, could do the same....

the jiu jitsu chick knew her chit and what she did was justifiable. she kept her cool throughout the fight and threw an arm bar. her opponent gave in but when she went back at her, she went in for the choke; it was quick and her opponent passed out. it was tight enough to put her to sleep, it was quick, and she let go

the draw back to fighting on the ground is that in a street fight, anything can happen. even if a bjj guy has the dominant position, a kick to the face from the guys buddy nullifies superior positioning.

out of all of the years of training bjj, the few things that they've taught me regarding getting jumped is to not get jumped in the first place and/or run fast and far away

You shouldn't take it to the ground in a street fight in an alley, but if it does end up in the ground you better know how to defend, you cucumber.

Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit softly.

Best thing for street fighting is not mma or boxing, it's being smart enough to avoid one or walk away. Not worth prison time, getting killed, or killing someone else.

That's obvious, but when it's not possible to avoid you better be a fast runner or know how to defend.

I cant believe people are saying not to train bjj because of things like cement/glass/friends/stomped.
Where is the logic here.
Same thing applies in a normal street fight.
brb better not learn boxing/muay thai because they could have a gun.

ufokkingwotm8?!

Lets say someone attacks you and you slip/fall. Now what? Sure even if it is 1 on 1 what happens now? Why would you limit what you know because of all these crazy circumstances and hypothetical situations.

Sure, it was brutal of her to choke her out, but as someone said before, it's a streetfight and there are no rules. Nothing is off the table when the ultimate result could be death or serious injury.

If I was any of the people getting KO'd in those videos, I'd have given up the second I spotted none of them were wasting movements. The asian chick does it at the beginning of the video - she just chills out, defends and observes while her opponent throws pointless and tiring blows that don't connect.

A guy I work with trains in Jiu-Jitsu. He loves it because it's effective, but mainly because it's a great way to keep fit.

My personal favourite is this video. I love the fake crying that stop practically straightaway after the KO blow.

In for street fights links
The moments of my life in which I've grown had to do with failures; the moments of my life when I've gotten worse, had to do with success. Success is deforming, relax, deceives, makes us worse, we fall in love too much of ourselves; failure is the opposite, it's formative, makes us strong, brings us closer to our convictions, make us consistent.

None of these videos have any context.

What if she just set fire to your house...

Or killed 10 kids...

We cant talk about whats "too much" because we dont know.

As i said before, the victim might actually even be the bully, we just dont know.

Even in drilling I've gone to sleep because I was trying to tell someone how to make the choke tighter.

when people say this, its true for any situation, stand up or on the ground - if his friends are gonna jump in then your best bet is to not fight, and if you have to fight then you want to end it quickly... bjj is great for putting someone out while not ****ing up your hands from throwing punches... most people in these threads probably havent been in many fights, but hand bones are pretty fragile when it comes to punching things like faces/heads
