Lol at benzo's 'curing'.

OP seek professional help. Don't get into benzos long term. Treat it at the source. You don't want to be barred out for the next 43 years of your life.

meditation heals the mind and spirit. you have to develop a positive thought pattern for what you want for your life first. no matter what it is, just make sure that it's something that you want.

I don't think I will ever understand what anxiety is or why it's a big deal. There is nothing to be nervous about and some of you just need to man up.

for the love of God DO NOT GO ON ANY PSYCHIATRIC DRUGS. They'll only mask any symptoms and make it 10000x times worse in the long run, and **** you up basically. Try to figure out the root of why you're feeling this way, it's most likely some deep issues that you're gonna have to face through self-reflection, we all have to face our demons. Try meditating and going outside, maybe reading a little bit or relaxing and doing any hobbies you enjoy. But you gotta just tell yourself i'm strong i can get through this, work up the courage, and do whatever you need to do.

That's exactly what it is, irrational fear. We know it's stupid to be nervous and there is no danger, that's why it's often considered a disorder. You can get to 'lion chasing you' levels of adrenaline just doing simple every day stuff, it takes a lot of strength to push through and fix it through exposure though.

I used to be terrified of telling the waiter what I want when I'd be out to eat. It really is that retarded. Your body feels like it's in full survival mode but you aren't doing anything dangerous. You develop this response by strengthening avoidance as you grow up by avoiding new things, then as an adult you're stuck with these neuro paths that tell your body to flip ****. Re training your brain is an exhausting process but it can be done.

No it's not, aids is real whereas anxiety is all in your head. I am sure that if you changed your thought patterns among other things that you will be able to get over it without medication.

Does having someone go with you to say a restaurant when you're having anxiety help relief some of that stress ? how do you deal with it ?

If it's someone that knows I have anxiety no, because I feel like they're watching me 'be a grown up' and it mixes embarrassment into the cocktail of fight or flight hormones.

As I mentioned on page 2 (with a pic) I started doing mindful meditation, which is where you control the thoughts that come into your mind and practice dismissing them and going back to focusing on your breathing (nothing). After doing this for a while you are able to better sort your thoughts on the fly and be in the moment rather than thinking ahead about what a clerk might ask you etc.

This is the thought process of someone with anxiety checking out at a store if it helps you understand

"Theres a lot of people in line, they're probably looking at my food and think I eat like ****"
"Ok my turn, hopefully I don't drop anything when putting it onto the counter"
"Should I push it forward or will the lady in front think that's rude?"
"Do I even have enough money for all this?"
"Is she going to ask me if I have a rewards card because I don't"
"I don't want to sign up either ugh"
"What if I swipe my card wrong and it makes that loud beep again"
"Am I going to have to sign the screen? Do I do that? Will she say sign it or do I have to watch it pop up?"
"**** I just hit cancel what the **** do I do should I tell her or can I restart it somehow"
"Im probably red as a tomato right now **** this"
"She probably thinks I'm retarded I just asked her to reset it, can this day get any worse"
"I hope one of those guys doesn't come and try and bag my **** I hate talking to them"
"He's probably from my old highschool and knows who I am"
"I hope I didn't leave anything in the bags on the rack"
"She said bye but I waited slightly too long to say bye back if I say it now it'll be weird, but if I don't say it all it's rude"
"Ill just smile at her"

These thoughts appear, spark nervousness, and continue to flood. Once I got better at dismissing them I'm able to better stay relaxed and not really care. Now my though process is

"Im buying food"

It is all in our heads, but the symptoms it creates are very real and only add to the stress of the moment (sweating, turning red, mumbling).

chits nothing like that. Can an autistic stop being autistic? Can someone who has down syndrome stop being like that? technically they are also in one's head.

By definition it's an irrational fear. And therefore no amount of rational thought can cure it.
It's not some amazing paradigm shift to realize that it's irrational, the sufferer is already aware.

So you just suddenly got anxiety after losing your job? It must be that you're worried people will think you're a loser or something. Don't get on drugs, just face it head on and rationally. Ask yourself why you're getting anxiety and what you can do to fix it

Also get another job, that should do it

I think I've always had a minor case of anxiety, but when I lost my job I only left my house to go to the gym very early and I wouldn't go out anywhere at all for the rest of the day.

Then maybe a week ago I was going to the store and I was terrified to go inside, I didn't want to be seen by anyone, or have anyone look at me.. honestly it was the most fukked up feeling I've ever had. Now it's just out of control. When I do leave the house I keep my head down, look at the floor and just want to hide from anyone. It's messed up.

You two are both retarded. First off benzos are nowhere near a cure for anxiety and secondly there is a reason why Doctors are being withholding with medication like that. There is an epidemic of drug abuse being perpetuated by people who can't deal with their problems properly.

Usually when something very stressful is happening (i.e losing your job) it is very easy to just be an anxious person in general because the foundation of your life and income was just rocked. Focus on landing a new job and that should help a lot of it.

after my wife was in a serious car accident, she developed severe anxiety whenever she was in a car....she went to therapy, but what really helped her cope while doing the mental work to get past it was clonazepam. Stuff was amazing. She never had to take enough to form an addiction, but she'd take a small dose just to get through while doing other things to cope

She's gotten to the point where she never has to take it for being in the car, she's done a lot of work, and unfortunately, so will you. Stay strong OP, there are people who want to help.

Have you tried forcing yourself to go out in public until you feel more comfortable? Just go sit on a public bench for a while, no pressure

That's because you don't have it so you'll never understand, you have no control over it. Imagine waking up in the middle of night from someone banging pots and pans together, that's how someone with severe anxiety feels like constantly even for minuscule things like answering the door when the pizza man arrives. This naturally results in never leaving the house and being alone in your room all day.

Exposure is the key.

Expose yourself to what you are fearing. I have been to therapy for anxiety. You need to go and do what gives you panic attacks, wait for the panic to set in and then wait as long as it takes in that environment/situation for the anxiety to leave. You can not just do this once and expect great results. You might even feel worse the first couple of times you do it. But you need to keep doing it.

Social anxiety is one of the easiest mental problems to cure, if you are willing to put in the work.

What I did was take baby steps. Start small and work your way up. For me it became fun and a real challenge. You can do it OP

DO not take pills! I took SSRI's once and it made it worse. I called my doctor and told him i was feeling worse and he told me to keep taking them. I flushed them all and concentrated on exposure.
