About your journaling, do you actually have a little book you write it in, or is it on ur computer/phone. I myself would be paranoid at someone finding my book with my innermost thoughts lmaoo

Been doing this since I was 14. The trick is to not treat this as lying to yourself, but reframing situations in a way that prevents you from adding a negative tint to it. The goal is always to do action that reflects positive thinking, not action that results from negative thinking.

I use evernote on my computer and phone. Lots of times I'll delete a journal after writing for some reason. I mean I have a few different journalling habits and they all serve a different purpose.

My morning journal is just to set my intentions for the day, remind myself why I do what I do. Every morning I re-read yesterdays, erase it, and re-write it.

My worry journal is just to problem solve.

My night journal is the one I keep, its a reflection on the day.

Maybe this'll be helpful, I'll post a couple:

An entry during a panic attack:

"I think the ability to handle **** is the number one skin in life. The belief that you can handle anything is the difference between excitement and fear. Ive conditioned myself to not believe I can handle my own body, my stomachs weird and I bug d fuk out. But **** it I know I’m fine. I know I’m fine. Its just about not getting in your head with feelings of discomfort. Why is this uncomfortable. Cotton mouth and a stomach ache.

I could decide to bug out right now or I could decide override whatever thoughts going on in the subconscious back burner. This is being an adult.

Accept the feelings and enjoy yo self.

Gratitude

Damn I live in a dope place. I’ve got so many friends that I can call to have fun with, lots of people feel lonely. Lots of people that get reclusive just lose everybody.

And I’m good. I just made the decision and now I’m good. The feelings followed the thoughts they aren’t random at all. ".

An entry when I was feeling lost, to reinforce my whys:

"Structure

1. Who are you?
2. What do you do?
3. Who do you help
4. What do they want/need from you?
5. How are they changed by step 4?

I like figuring out how to enjoy life better. And I like to learn deeply quickly. I like to be inspired, I love feeling motivated. I like the feeling of working endlessly towards a specific thing. I find techniques/strategies for cultivating a mindset, because mindset is the father to everything. The Secret, psycho-cybernetics, bob proctor, tony robbins, tim ferris, waitzkin, all point to the power of belief but its not about the law of attraction woo woo, its about viewing from the right perspective. We can set our perspective. I am setting up an introspective mood by looping an instrumental track and lighting a candle and having a cup of tea. I watched something inspirational and then cleared my head before setting out to do this. Now that I’m in this zone, I feel I can learn about myself. From any other perspective, you dont see the same things. My music has paused and its much harder for me to write. I just restarted it and am feeling more zoned in already. Im controlling my breath and monitoring my posture to stay here. Its a pose, its a form almost. This mindset is a pose. You have to learn the pose. Its just like fighting. To counter or attack effectively you need to be in the right stance. Only when you have the right footing can you be effective. I want to learn how to get this footing. Because from here all is easy. Things flow out from this pose. The pose depends greatly on the goal. Im not absorbing, I’m exuding. If I were absorbing, I’d be positioned differently, I would prime myself differently.

So heres what I do: I teach people that poses are important, I teach them what the right pose is for whatever style/outcome they seek, and I teach them how to pose. Sometimes we can use drugs to prop us up into a pose. When we feel what that pose should feel like, it lives in subconscious muscle memory.

Who do you help? Gut reaction is everyone, duh. But really I want to help people who aren’t being effective in whatever they do. I want to help the lost, confused, stuck in a rut people. By extension, I want to help the entire field of mental achievement science. Work only towards outcomes, and work from the right pose.

What do they need? They need to learn how to pose.

How are they changed? Learning to pose allows people to control their mindset and achieve whatever outcome they wish to achieve.

What makes you so qualified? My years of dealing with anxiety, of trying to learn ALOT in a short time, my experience watching people rise and fall, my schooling, and the books I’ve read. Just like someone used to eating healthy is much more affected by a bad meal than people accustomed to bad meals, I think I am much more affected by the pose I’ve struck than most. I feel stuck and empowered by it.

How does that happen? theres where neuropsych comes in. "

another reflection:

"Before work, took the time to get outside and move and breathe a little bit. Probably could be more formal with the practice in a sense. But my life is run by fear. I fear the inability to escape. I fear my own stomach. I fear committing to anything that requires a commitment of time. This fear has spilled over to much of my life, and I feel like this is the thing I have to work past. All else is a symbol or a practice for accomplishing this. I dont know exactly how I’m going to get beyond this but I know I can.
Also, people tell me how high strung they get around me, I should mellow out for everyones sake.

Today I will get to work, eat well, train, read, kick it. Tomorrow begins the housekeeping. I need to push myself. "

This mornings journal

"Man, relaxing is a beautiful thing. Thank god she taught me that lesson.

I have a great social life, I love my friends, I love my family. My girl is a god damned angel. I need to continue to show these people how much I appreciate them. Dont say it, show it. Today the academy is closed, so I lift. After that, I cook. After that, I go to work. At work I help as many people as I possibly can, as well as I possibly can. In tonights short shift, I will improve someones day. This will be a successful day. The business is going well, pretty effortlessly. I take the time to NOT work on it when there isn't something I can do. I do this to prevent getting burned out and because sometimes when you're deep in something you lose perspective, you lose the larger picture. This is why I'm successful. Stay the course. Trust the process. Call grandma, its been a couple days."

Did you cut certain things out of your life such as drugs, alcohol etc? And are you in a constant positive mindset or do you have "relapses" of negative thoughts and attitudes?

I definitely notice the more positive I am in life the better it generally seems regardless of how good my life is going at that point so I completely agree with what you're doing.

Not really. I dont drink because I have IBS, stomach does not like it. A lot of my anxiety revolves around my stomach, so I follow a somewhat strict diet. And a lil greenery has been beneficial for me. IDK if the forum rules have changed on that topic since the general consensus around it has changed, I dont wanna get this thread locked so I wont go in depth about it, but if anything I've increased my intake of that. I think its good for the soul for a few reasons. I'm not in a constantly positive mindset, I still have panic attacks and I still avoid my trigger situations. But I go to therapy and the people in my life are very understanding. I'm also very open about it, and I think that helps. I sometimes feel like a loser and lose faith, but I snap out of it in minutes. If I'm at work and start feeling that way I tell people I need to run to the bathroom. In the bathroom I review my notes, listen to a little tony robbins clip, and write out whats going on. In 5 minutes I'm back. Sometimes its just a matter of deep breathing and mentally reciting what I'm grateful for.

If I'm with someone and that happens I tell them I need to get air or go clear my head for a minute. I go outside, get my head right, and come back in. If people think its weird or ask whats up I explain, "Sometimes I feel off and need to take a minute to clear my head.". People who know what I'm up to often ask how I find the time to do all this chit and if I ever get stressed, or ask why I'm always in such a good mood. I tell them I take the time to clear my head as soon as my thoughts go down a path I dont like.

Like Tony Robbins said when asked the question, "no, I never have bad days. I have challenging moments but I never stay there".

It takes effort and experimentation to find what works for you, but once you form the habit it becomes second nature.

All that being said, throughout the year I have had times where I was unable to shake a bad feeling or thought, or forgot to even try. Sometimes I catch myself gossiping, being selfish, and speaking harshly to try to sound cool. And thats where the night journal comes in. I reflect on the day and correct course where I think I fukd up.

I actually got a small tattoo on my arm. Most people dont notice it, but i can see it. And its sorta like when people put a rubberband on their wrist to remember something. Whenever I see it I take a moment to remember to act according to my values.

getting laid doesnt come close to the level of comfort and security that you can handle anything the world throws at you. I choose to believe that everything I'm doing and everything I experience is meant for me to get where I'm supposed to be. I dont actually believe in destiny, but I choose to operate as if I believe in it.

All the rough times I can think of have taught me a lesson that was absolutely worth the struggle. If you can impart meaning to tragedy, it becomes the seed of some eventual benefit. Man, getting laid is nowhere near close to this. In a sense its like finding religion. Finding a way to live your life, finding values you can use to make decisions, finding ways to keep faith when things seem to be falling apart. I think its the most important thing in life. Really, I dont think theres a point to life. For a while that was upsetting to me and I had a year long existential crisis where I didnt see the point in carrying on with life. Now that means we get to choose what life means. We get to make up the point.

Thanks for the thread, OP. This has been a really bad year for me, and I feel like my negative has consumed me and it's only getting worse. I'm 25 and my mind has always been my worst enemy- I suffer from OCD, social anxiety, and pretty sure depression also which I know will only get worse if I don't make a change. I know my problems- I'm lazy, I don't sleep enough or I just go to sleep late/wake up late. I'm not even on a course for a career yet, just working a chitty part time job. I'm in this situation because I don't do anything to change it which only feeds negativity to my mind.

2017 is going to be a new year to me, I want to take back control of my mind. I want to become a morning person, start working out again, better diet, make my day more productive by finding a career path and reading self-help books rather than waste so much time on the internet and television. Maybe I'll try other little things also like nofap, cold showers, and meditation. But all these changes I feel are essential to creating a more positive mindset.

Good chit op but this is great for a normal guy who's going through rough times, they can fix themselves with a positive mindset but for those that have chit against them that they can't fix, It's very hard to change. For example, people with intense mental illness such as bipolar or severe anxiety, or someone who can't speak properly and sucks socially (autism) someone who has no arms/legs and in a wheelchair, etc..it's so much harder for the left behinds, to those who have problems that can't be fixed, a positive mindset will only bring them so far but at the end of the day they'll always be reminded of themselves.

Look I have severe anxiety. I have not left a 30 mile radius in 8 years. I haven't ridden in a car as a passenger in over 5. My girlfriend and I have never gone out to dinner together. I literally throw up when I panic.

But so the fuk wat? I'll probably get better over time, I'm taking the right steps. Instead of seeing myself as trapped by anxiety, I see myself as a very fortunate person with a specific phobia. A phobia that will get better with the right practice.

whatever cards you were dealt, mindset is King.
