I am looking at jobs here in a bay area also, as well as North Carolina, and this gig in Louisiana. This one in Louisiana probably drops me an offer first so I want to get input from my fellow miscers ahead of time.

Didnt bother reading the rest of the thread because im sure its mostly tolling. 90k is pretty decent down here. Upper middle class and you should have some money left to goof off with. I fukkin love this state, specifically New Orleans and the greater New Orleans area. If you are an avid outdoors man, there are plenty of opportunities for you to get outside and do something. Then you can easily hit the city that night if you want to. When its hot down here, it gets really fukkin hot. Not sure what you are looking for in terms of gun laws? You can conceal carry one, etc etc, not sure about marijuana because I dont smoke. Just come down, start drinking, and enjoy nature.

It's mostly just the interstates and highways from my experience. Like most states there is a pretty poor highway infrastructure, but LA doesn't seem to be working on it as hard as others are.

Edit* to op, from my experience of living just outside of Baton Rouge for a year the scenery does mostly look like chit.. swamps and strip malls everywhere.

I just spent 9 years in Shreveport. There was a reason why I left. I wouldn't recommend the move unless you have a reason to live in Louisiana. Its not a fun place for "outsiders," unless maybe you go to New Orleans where people are more used to them. What I hated the most was the work/life balance was slanted WAY too far towards life. I get it, I'm from the Midwest and we sometimes pay too much attention to work and neglect life, but when they care more about life BY FAR, it leads to some atrocious customer service interactions, business relationships and coworkers. And the cost of living is not as cheap as people think. They look from the outside and say "its the south, gotta be cheap." BS. Louisiana has money, lots of it. I don't know if any survey's or anything know the kind of money Louisiana has, but I guarantee you there's money. There are obviously lots of ways to make money, but what made it frustrating for me was all of the oil and gas money. This drove up the price of flights and housing. Certainly not California expensive for housing, but more than I thought it would be. I left for South Carolina where the cost of living appears to be lower.

$90K is not king money in Louisiana. Again, you'll be right in line with low level roughnecks in the oilfields at that salary. Not sure if you have kids or not, but plan on putting them in private school, instantly chopping the $90K down a notch. The public schools in Louisiana are horrible, in part because they have such low property taxes. That part is a plus...the property taxes are low.

As far as your car, it will melt in the heat, so be ready to tint your windows and make sure you don't leave it out too much...and stay on top of the waxing. Speaking of the heat, its on a different level. Easily 110+ with 100% humidy during the summer, and can be in the high 80s and even 90s at night, so there is no relief.

Perhaps in Shreveport. NOLA is where its at. If you're living in Shreveport, you might as well move to Arkansas. Pretty much anything on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain and west out to about Baton Rouge, and North shore to about Covington are the only inhabitable cities in the state.

The bay area? $120,000 there is equal to $37,000 for an average-sized, smaller city of a million+ -- in order for you to be making '$90,000' in the bay, you'd need to be making $291,000 there and to make "$120,000" there, you're looking at the equivalent of$388,043lolololol -- California, never once.

That tends to happen when someone actually lives somewhere for 9 years, and most of the other people are talking out of their ass or just visited.

I took a pay cut to move to the Carolinas, if that helps. I'm much happier here.

Depends on what part of Louisiana. North Louisiana isn't bad. South Louisiana you start getting into the hardcore bayous/Cajun country. That 90k is fantastic for out there with housing being considerably cheaper. Do you though, OP.
