I should know better than to post in these threads, but I think it's great when people truly reflect on the food they eat and where it comes from. Having worked on a farm (museum/tourist farm with a few animals) showed me how fuked it is that people eat goats/sheep (especially) and even pigs/cows. Goats and sheep are so similar to dogs and cats and have unique personalities. Pigs and cows are intelligent animals, too.
Made me stop eating pigs/cows/sheep/goats entirely - not that I ever ate sheep or goat much anyway.
Still haven't cut out chicken/turkey or fish, though. I just don't have sufficient empathy for them at the moment and I know I could slaughter one if need be. Not that I'd enjoy it, but I could do it. A cow/sheep/goat/pig I couldn't slaughter for any reason...
No desire to be vegan, though. I can buy eggs from local places and cutting out things like honey seems ridiculous. No harm is done to the bees and excess honey in the hive just sits there... Dairy is questionable, though, most the dairies around here are smaller operations. Probably not the best conditions for the cows, but maybe one day I'll cut dairy out...
Oh, and in before the misc vegans attack me (and not the bros saying "brb eating a steak right now") because I only cut out some animals, without going full vegan. Logic, not once.

I would have a much easier time eating meat from a naturally raised hen, though I don't usually find it necessary even there. To each his own though.

To speak more generally here and unbiasedly, (and I'm learning this because of this thread and other times where I've voiced this 'vegan' perspective) a mistake vegans make is that they show more importance to the animals who are in a much different dimension than us humans, and show less approval for their fellow human beings.
On the other hand, meat eaters, at least those who don't really hold the entire process of the meat industry in their consciousness, are missing that even if those beings we call animals exist in a different dimension, they STILL are part of the same world we live in, and are living beings. They don't see beyond flesh. Don't let the different anatomical structure fool you.
So in essence, there is a good purpose behind vegans speaking out. It comes out wrong sometimes.

Eating meat is not the problem. Reproducing at stupid rates is the problem. Less people=less demand=less slaughter. We have simply outgrew what the planet is naturally capable of supporting.
Also fast good industry is a large portion of the problem, the need for cheap meat means less care for the animals.

I'm still here kicking after all these negs. What you gotta say about that? Actually, screw it. I don't care.

meat eater here, i personally believe animals were put on this earth to nourish us humans so it's fine to eat meat, consuming meat also helps us to connect with animals on a raw biological level which vegans can't
it's like oh hey, what's up my little pig friend, i really appreciate your sacrifice and to honour this i am going to eat you so that we will become one, your delicious tasting flesh will merge with mine, i am going carry your legacy and you will live on through me

No, I did not think about it when I bought it. And even if I did think about it, I still MAY have bought it.
Like I said, none of us is a saint in this mess we live in, but the more conscious we are, the less harm we do, and the good intentions is what make the difference.
Speaking of which, I see no good in this thread, yet the butthurt meat eaters feel they're achieving something by negging lol. Guess they don't think about that much either.
I just wasted my breath and energy making this thread. I'll give you that.

This is what happens when kids grow up without ever seeing an animal get slaughtered. That and the perverse humanification of pets.
What did you think before you saw a slaughter house video? That steaks grew on trees?
Being a vegan is BETA! Lion = carnivore. Lamb = vegan

I'm certain that in the coming decades we'll move to more sustainable agriculture and farming. Organic, Bio, halal, kosher, grass-fed, free range, vegan, etc. will all increase. For reasons of personal health and environmental concerns consumers and regulators will move in this direction. Rural to Urban population redistribution and exponential population growth are going to put pressure on current models. Scientific research and awareness around GMO's, hormones, industrial animal husbandry, chemicals, and pesticides will add additional pressure.
Synthetic meat/protein could gain popularity (think about current BCAA and needs of the fitness community).
New models like urban farming and animal husbandry could fill some gaps.
I'm not saint and I'm not promoting Veganism directly, but I can respect their intentions. I also fly around the world on airplanes, use plastic, and drive a car... I truly hope we find a better way.
It sure sounds cool to be a 200g of beef protein per day lifting alpha-male brah who dgaf, but imagine in mid-2050 when we approach 10 billion world population and maybe 3-5 billion of such "dgaf alpha males"...

itt; no one has ever worked as a rancher or in a slaughter house.
I've done both and there is no suffering except when I castrate. that seems painful as hell. but even then minutes later they are eating food from your hand
edit; forgot about kosher. that's pretty fd up but I never did it. and I'll never eat kosher products after seeing it
