I think for the baby boomers with the corporatization that took place from the 1960s onwards- you could perform well, be smart, amicable, well spoken, get a degree and you'd pretty much be guaranteed a solid entry level job for a big firm. I think the climate has changed, but the information we received was a bit outdated. Either way the tallest trees grow in the strongest winds. Continue striving, improving and growing and in the long term you'll value that you didn't get an easy ride.

No it hasn't, not in the UK anyway. I applied to big firms not knowing a single person within the organisations and did just fine.

If you keep getting rejected at the final interview stage, you are failing the interview.

You need to reassess your answers, you can't say you killed the interview, unless they give you the job. Otherwise actually you failed the interview.

Are these behavioural interviews, I.e 'tell me a time you performed financial analysis?'.

If those are the type of questions, you need to generally answer, by saying Situation, Task, actions, result, and make each of them fking strong points, and sell yourself.

No experience is exactly what will keep a company from hiring you. If you go into an interview for a job in your degrees field without any experience, you had better show some serious desire for growth and be able to talk about the field as though you've already been in it or else your resume is going into the trash can with the other 100+ that think they're owed a job just because they spent 4 years in school.

I still get angry/frustrated about the phone interview I had three weeks back. I put an insane # of hours into prepping for it, and the interview itself seemed like it went off without a hitch. But the fact that they won't even send an automated email to me pisses me off. So much effort on my part, and they couldn't be bothered to send any kind of follow up at all. At one point I was checking my email six times per hour, hoping to get a response from them. But nada.

I saw a job ad a few weeks ago that stated recent college graduates will be considered for an entry level staff accountant position. Pay is $20, and job ad stated generic skills, but at the interview, they did a bait-and-switch and said the position required 2 years of work experience using Access, Excel, Payroll, MAS 200 or other ERP system, Reporting software, Systems implementation, SQL, some warehouse experience, high invoice processing for AP.

LOL the average undergrad won't have any of that. I have some of those, but damn. It seems like some jobs are out of the question for a lot of people graduating thinking things are going to be easy coming out of school. NOT referring to OP specifically. just in general. Interview skills are key and separate the employed from the unemployed only if you are invited for an interview.

Job market is tough boyo, this especially true for fresh grads. Just keep applying at places. Literally spend hours a day applying. It's all a numbers game to get that first position, then you can leverage that to land what you want after some time working at your first company.

The bait-n-switch at the interview gets me every time. They post what the job expectations are in the job listing as well as an overview of the job... but then at the interview they mention what you'll actually be doing and it isn't remotely close to what was put in the job listing. Gets me every time, and actually catches me off guard. Probably one of the reasons I end up getting rejected.

im in the same boat OP. Its absolutely mind blowing. I have to jump through hoops and beg these ****ers to hire me just so they can eat my soul. All for a paycheck. Shouldn'tthey be the ones beggingus to come give their company value?

OP, here is the real way to land a job (SRS no b/s)

1.) Get a list of everyone in the company and find a way using the 6 degrees of separation with their friends, friends of friends, ECT to establish a "connection" or an "in".

2.) Lie. Tell them anything they want to hear to get the job. For work history, create shell companies so it looks like you have hella experience and list your friends phone number so when they call to check your references... you covered.



3.) WHILE your employed at your current job, apply and interview with new companies and always negotiate a 10K+ increase in pay over your current job.... its aggressive but your already employed so if they say no, bail and try another company until you the pay bump.











The job market and economy are a complete joke today... it may seem like a crazy thing to do, but if you treat the whole thing like a game and never take it seriously.... just like women and p*ssy, thats how you win. Care less and have a better line of bullsh*t than the person interviewing you will be golden mate. SRS
