Find a job with a company where you are currently located that has facilities in multiple states and apply for jobs within your company in other places after being there for a year or so. Its takes longer but it works. Its what I did

I can't relate to this thread because IT/CS life literally getting job offers without any degree at the moment. Still going to school and all I have is 1 year programming experience. That must really suck, sorry OP.

Im in the same boat. Trying to find an 'graduate internship' for almost a year now. Already studied longer then what's acceptable, so it just get's worse and worse.

Think i'm gonna add some experience (which im sure the organisation which I put on my resume will back me up if needed) and edit my starting year with 1 year. Anyone (like any recruiters here?) know how this can go wrong? It's only for an internship, so I don't think it will be strictly reviewed.

Haven't been flown out for an interview but I have been on the job hunt locally lately so I can relate. The worst is when a recruiter stalls you and then can't even give you honest feedback so you improve.

Just keep positive and keep trying. If you're this negative it's going to come across in your next interviews. Keep applying... Eventually someone will give you a shot.

Also, it's true that connections is a great way to get a good job. However, don't let miscers convince you that it's the only way and you're fuked if you didn't make them while in school. It will just be a little more difficult and take more persistence.

As long as your resume is quality and tailored to what you're applying for you should still get interest. Having a solid linkedin profile and applying for jobs on there is much more effective than applying on indeed and other job sites IMO

If you make it to the flown out stage then you're not competing with very many people, and all of them should be relatively close to you in terms of experience/knowledge.

In other words you are most likely not great at interviewers. Most people suck at them. They are very weird and unlike any other interaction you have on a daily basis. I suggest trying to figure out what types of questions the company likes to ask via glassdoor or some other resource. Then getting a book of those questions and writing out your answers to them.

Even if you only get a couple that you practiced for the interviewer depending on experience will either give you kudos for the answer or at the very least for being prepared.

Think about it from their perspective. They are making an expensive decision based off 2-3 pieces of paper, maybe phone interview notes, and an hour long conversation (depending on what you're going for). what would the best candidate look like and sound like. How would they respond to your questions.

Honestly corporate is a game. It sucks the soul out of people for a paycheck until they are left with nothing but a mortgage and a fake smile. Hopefully you'll get out of the game before it happens to you, but in the mean time - learn the rules and play it better then anyone else.

For people in college.

Secret- major in accounting and finance. Be the Vice President or some **** for the finance club at your college. You don't do **** and it looks good. Do some BS volunteering you can talk about at interviews. Creare a network (major key). Keep a 3.5+. Be chill at interviews. Companies want to hire people who are capable of getting the job done but will grab a beer during happy hour after work Friday's.

Also, I get the feeling that lots of interview questions are designed to test how well you can "think quickly" or more accurately bull**** a story on the spot. Makes sense because this is an important skill in lots of jobs today LOL

I can relate OP - I've been looking for a new job for almost a year. I absolutely hate my current job.
- Last summer, prospective company flies me down, has me stay at a 4-star hotel, limo service from the airport, just crazy experience. I nail the whole interview, too. Annnnnd then they tell me they've decided to go with an internal candidate.
- Three weeks ago I have a phone interview with another company. Everything goes great, they tell me I'll hear from them in a week. It's been three weeks and no calls or emails.
- On Tuesday I had another phone interview - I think it went well, fingers crossed.

Long story short, you gotta just keep hustlin, cuz. Hopefully you've applied for a bunch of jobs today

Same dude.. They kept me at a nice ass hotel in downtown, limo service to and from the airport and to the interview, interview couldnt have gone better. they were really impressed and all that ****. Then she says they decided to go with another candidate. I just want to see who this other person was that they chose over me and what their credentials were.

Go into the military as an officer doing the job you went to school for. You'll not only gain four years of working experience, but you'll also be seen as a vet. You'll easily land a Civilian job when you get out. There are a lot of "Pencil Pushers" in the Air Force that would suite your degree very well.

Same. Oddly enough I have gotten the job for every place I have interviewed for. And have turned some down.

Although a lot were in the sports performance/personal training field. Seems like if you're decently knowledgeable, look fit, and can talk, you are golden
