How long did it take for you to move up in the business? You said you came in with a college degree - did that give you an advantage or did you still start making minimum wage and work up?

Front desk was $13 an hour - it was a step back from what I'd been making in Healthcare, but still decent when you're early 20's. I worked an entry level position for the first year and half before moving to management. Definitely earned the promotion, was not given a jump start because of the degree.

Yeah, they typically charge extra above two people in the room - it takes more housekeeping hours, you're using more linen, and stealing more of the fancy shampoo.

Not my hotel, but one of the best stories I've ever heard. We use this in training to emphasize the need for guest privacy.

>Guy checks into hotel with his side chick. Call him Mr. Smith
>Mrs. Smith comes to the hotel front desk, says she's checking in & her husband arrived before her
>Computer says there are two people staying in the room. She has the same last name, same address on file etc
>Mrs. Smith gets a key to the room
>Mrs. Smith sneaks into the room while Mr. and his sloot are out
>Mrs. Smith sets up a VIDEO CAMERA IN THE ROOM
>Mrs. Smith gets video of infidelity, divorces him, gets it all
>Mr. Smith sues the hotel for letting a non-registered guest in his room

Vicious.

5 stars are valet ONLY brah, you'll have to go to a poverty Days Inn or some chit for that. If you need a good spot for car lovin, go to one of those little self service car washes - it's like a little private slot for your car to hide in. I always said if I owned one of those places I'd have a second shift selling time to horny high school kids.

Independent. Wife was with Hilton for years and it was the GOAT b/c we could get $50 rooms anywhere there was a Hilton (i.e. anywhere). Have used their app and can confirm it's dogsh*t tier.

Ya I complained to a chick from corporate (was very nice but direct). They made an upgrade to their app and apparently it only works for 'newer' phones. This was after i deleted the app and tried to redownload it and it said i couldn't. Of course she said IT was working on it but luckily i found the older version APK online to get it back. All for a 'keyless entry' bullschit too and they also fuked with their points program with some sliding scale. Anyways...feel better now bro. Just had to let it out.

Sure. We'd rather have heads in beds - if it's sitting empty it's not making us any money. Last minute bookings usually get a pretty good deal.

When I was front desk at hampton inn back in college, had a couple stay in the room.. they were on some serious drugs all night, come to find out that the boyfriend locked his girlfriend in the hallway in the morning somehow. I go up to the floor where their room was and she's staying butt ass naked, had other guests complain that she was naked and little kids running around.. craziness

Did the front desk workers invent the $20 trick? Where a guest will give you a $20 for a "free" upgrade?

I used to have a fantasy as a teen to "sleep" naked with the covers halfway off my body so when house keeping comes in she sees the surprise and gets seduced.
Is it true that if u expose yourself to a maid, they will write your name down and after 3 strikes the cops get involved?

I don't know who invented it but it's definitely a thing. Every front desk I ever worked had cameras behind it - and not potato cameras either, the kind of ultra high def where you could type "Help I'm being robbed" on your screen and security would see it. My bosses didn't care so long as the upgrade made sense - if you were being "nice" and hooking them up, not giving away the house.

If I didn't have an easy way to upgrade them, I'd give the $20 back the same way they slipped it to me. Had a coworker who'd keep it tho lmao.

We did have a guy come screaming that their housekeeper stole his girl's necklace from their room, and he absolutely REEKED of pot. Asked if we could go in the room to search for it (lol), he refused. Politely took his info, but also asked that he call us if it did turn up. He called 5 minutes later to say it was sitting on the desk in the room.
Sounds like it's not a problem most of the time. Years ago (maybe 2011) my group of friends were at EDC. We were staying at the Cosmo. One of the guys pretend like he locked away half our cash and all of our... goods in the safe that was in the room and forgot the lock combination. We were sweating BALLS for about an hour. Not only was the party about to fall apart but we would have to ask a hotel person to come open the safe, and he would have seen... a very generous assortment of party supplies. We spent half an hour coming up with a plan to bribe the guy before my friend told us he was fukin with us. Just LMAO. Good times indeed.

Never heard of that 3 strikes rule, but yeah we have definitely had to caution guests about this stuff lol.

It's one thing if you're getting out of the shower and didn't realize somebody was in the room, but flashing is a great way to get yourself a visit from security. We get a lot of euros and some countries seem much more relaxed about nudity.

We get a lot of that crap in the spa especially.

Your friend sounds like a dick, would buy him a beer lmao. Yeah people forget the room safe combo DAILY, and you see some pretty fun stuff locked up in there. Some people store valuables, other people use it as a spot the know the maid ain't gonna see. Crossdressers etc have done that at the place I worked before - wig, makeup, lady's underwear

This, unless it's a resort and you have no choice I prefer to stay at cheaper places. Breakfast/Internet included. I stayed downtown St.Louis once for a hockey game and we went downstairs to eat and it was one of the ****tiest hotel breakfast experiences I've ever had and they wanted $18 per person

lmao. Wonder if the employee was blamed for that. I mean it was an honest mistake, letting his wife into his room. How were they supposed to know? But, from working in retail and corporate, even honest mistakes get railed.

how often are sheets really cleaned?

did you ever know of any worker digging through luggage while cleaning the room?

Worked maintenance at a Resort. Looking back it was pretty fun for a bit. I'd work at a hotel again if given the chance tbh

I hear you lol.

But at the end of the day her name wasn't on the room, she shouldn't have a key. My mom once had my (senile at that point) grandpa walk in on her because they gave him the wrong room key, on a VERY common last name. She got her stay comped - in this case it was her father but could just as easily have been Chad and Jamal, know what I mean?
Smooth Seas don't make Strong Sailors. Keep your head up.

MrWhiskey24 for jolly cooperation (PS)
