It probably depends on location but.. How easy is it for people to just walk in the front lobby with a fake luggage bag and pretend to stay there to get the free continental breakfast?

Pretty easy tbh. The place I work now does not include the free breakfast but places that do are pretty easy to steal from. When I was front desk we gave out free newspapers and all the neighbors would just come take them. One guy came every day and when we asked for his room number he gave one that didn't exist. There are all kinds of scams that hit hotels, so small stuff like that doesn't get much attention.

Oh yeah. We have a lot of celebrities etc come through, and you just don't interfere with them, publicize that they're there etc. You treat them like any other guest. We had a bartender take a sneaky selfie with an NFL player that was at the hotel for a low-key meeting with another team's ownership. Bartender put it on social media & got fired on the spot.

Srs question: how do sites like Priceline actually work? Also, why are some corporate rates twice as much as the rate I could get just calling the hotel myself? I stayed in DC in February, was told to use some corporate code, the booking girl just offered to sign me up with their members club and it was half the price.

sounds legit. i took a picture at a family event with a pro athlete who did not look his best. the only thing he could slur out was "no social media please". very big no no these days to do that.

anywho, what is the true real legit best way to get the best rate for a room? don't care about sex stories.

Obviously people ask for recommendations on where to score illegal substances/hire "company" for the night pretty regularly.

Biggest weirdo I've had was at another hotel, back when I was working front desk. Guy came in with a MUCH younger woman, checking in to one of our cheapest rooms. He asked if we could get him an upgrade, I ended up upgrading the guy from a 2 night stay in a cheap room to 2 weeks in the best room in the house - think of like a presidential suite. Front desk gets a commission for these upsells - it was something like $2,500 more per night for 14 nights, so I get a few hundred for it.

He and the girl had a steady stream of ladies "visiting" their room at all hours of the day and night. He gave me $200 for somebody to go pick up a pizza and a specific kind of makeup for them at like 10pm at night. I did it personally, which impressed him, so have gave me ANOTHER $300.

He was out of his damn mind and CLEARLY on coke the entire time. Super shady, paid cash for everything out of a duffel bag. Housekeeping kept finding rails of blow in the room, a massive double-ender "toy" in the shower, loaded gun on the coffee table etc. They ended up leaving in the middle of the night on the third or 4th day, but still paid for the two weeks.

How often does hotel management know or care if guests are doing hardcore drugs in their rooms? I've often wondered if certain evidence was left behind, what the hotel does in that case.

If someone left a little pipe or some devil's lettuce I'm sure it's not big, but if there are baggies with residue of other stuff or other evidence of serious substances being present, would you take any legal action? Is there a hotel policy about these occurrences or does it become more of a call for a manager based on individual occurrence?

Weirdest/most disgusting I've ever seen a room was two people who checked in for one night, and left the next morning early (like 4am). The room was COVERED in food that had been used for all kinds of weird sex stuff - condom wrappers in a box of cereal, and there was peanut butter and chocolate syrup everywhere... including smeared all over the toy they forgot between the sheets.

We had to take the room out for 4 DAYS to clean it, including ripping up the carpet and repainting everything lmao

What percentage of guests would you say leave cash tips in the room for housekeepers?

Sites like Priceline are a way to get last minute bookings - ideally you want as much money per room as you can get, but if certain dates don't look to be busy we'd rather have "heads in beds" than nobody in house, even if that means discounting a bit. Corporate group business typically ends up paying a higher rate than just an individual traveler since they end up holding a big "block" of rooms for the group.
