Depends on the department. Some departments eill not hire anyome over the age of 30.

I know kansas city missouri fire wont. Now not all departments have thar silly requirement. Go apply on the ones who dont.

Generally departments like to hire young impressionable ppl who can give a good 20+ years before retiring and drawing their pension. But i do know of firefighters being hired on in there 40s. Its possible.

Work 6 months emt transport then switch to 911 company but i didn't pass training my fto was a real u know what I lost composure and told him off. I pretty much gave up wasn't even worth it I thought with such low pay , how bad will this affect me if I try to apply to a department?

1. How long did it take you to get hired with a department? Did you have to travel?

2. How many annual calls does your department average each year?

3. Does your department push interior attack or do you guys HIHFTY?

I'm going through the testing process right now. Wanting to get on with Clark County or LVFR

Buddy of mine had a contingent job offer with LA County Fire and he got DQ'ed over some BS on his driving record. (He knew several firefighters and his uncle works for LA County). So I'm convinced it's not really who you know lol.

It could affect you. Departments want to see how you handle pressure. This is a high stress job. But if this is something you want then i see no reason why you shouldnt give it another go. But yes, that could hurt you IF the department learns of the real reason why you quit. Might just keep that **** to yourself. Or come up with another reason.

No idea how many calls a year we have. An average shift can range from 10 calls to 20+.

Haha depends on the circumstances. If the structure is clear of ppl and pretty much ****ed, then we hit that bitch from the yard.

Good luck. I love the action. Shouldnt work in this field if all you want to do is sit around at the station.

When you guys get a emergency call, do you guys ever blast Lil Wayne Fireman on the PA system and drive at high speeds when you are on the way to a call? And if you have, have you ever felt a great sense of disappointment to find out that when you get on site, you have to literally and save a cute cat out of tree?

Ha seen a lot of ****ed up ****. We had a 300+lb women high passed out naked in a ditch covered in her own ****. That was fun.

Worst thing i witnessed and honestly made me question if i was really cut out for this work was a bad wreck 3 years ago on christmas eve. It involved 3 little kids and their parents.

There were presents scattered across the road. There wasnt anything we could do for them. They died at the scene. There wasnt a dry eye in the station that night. It still ****s with me.

About 80mph. He was drunk. He went up over some railroad tracks, lost control and hit a tree. He was in about 6 different pieces. And you could smell the alcohol coming from his flesh. It was a vomit inducing smell.

Haha we have hiphop fridays where we go gangsta. But we try and keep that **** on the low to ourselves.

And ive never ever rescued a cat. I did however rescue a hamster one time. Dont really wanna talk about that tho. Haha

Why would they make a firefighter/emt pull out a hamster out of someones no-no. If the scene is safe and he's still breathing, wouldnt you just give him to the emt's and they would just give him off to the er doc who gets to finger a guys butthole.

You show up on the scene of a roll over. The occupant is a mangled bloody mess and deceased. Do they make you guys pull the body out? Same question but vehicle left the road, hit a tree and everyone inside is a burnt mess. Sorry if this triggers anything but ive often wondered.

2 (no homo). The fire stations ive worked at had poles. Most new departmenrs are doing away with poles.

Its a very rewarding job. I wanted to help ppl. This was a great way of doing that. But i love almost everything about this job. It has its good and bad days just like any job. And thanks for the support partner!

Ha wtf are you talking about? I never pulled a hamster out of anyones ass. You guys are jumping to some weird ass conclusions.

You gotta nerwork a little bit and kiss a little ass. But you still have to put in the time and effort to get your certs. Not too many departments will just hire anyone without the proper certs.

Theres a process. Car crashes with fatalities are treated as a crime scene until proven otherwise. So we'll open the car up enough for EMS crews to put a monitor on the deceased victim to confirm their status.

If there is a fatality we turn the scene over to law enforcement. After they conclude their investigation we'll continue extrication. Kinda a long answer ha.

We were in a structure fire doing a primary search. Me and another firefighter went in to conduct the search, we're down on our hands and knees, cant see ****, but the floor. i come across this little moving ball in the hallway.

As i got closer to it, i see that it is a hamster on the floor. It was standing up on its hind legs with its little arms out like it wants me to pick it up.

So I pick it up and put it in my bunker gear pocket. Amazingly finished the search without sqaushing the little guy. The guys at the station gave me a lot of **** for saving a hamster.

How do you feel about being in a profession that increases your risk of cancer?
Something i dont spend much time thinking about. But i obviously hope i dont get cancer!
