I think we're making different points here, but it is true that no one in Korea, Japan, etc thinks of themselves as "Asian." "Asian" is very much an American concept. It is true that there are some similarities among East Asian and even Southeast Asian countries due to the diffusion of Chinese culture in the past, but even Asian Americans identify themselves with country of origin/ancestry rather than as just "Asian." We don't even mix much with one another. You'll practically never see someone who's half Korean and Japanese and so on. Hell, a couple of my friends have given me chit for dating a Chinese girl. I'm Korean.
For sure you're right. I was just busting OP's balls about generalization. "Asian" is definitely an American concept and I also knew exactly what he meant by what he said.
I feel fortunate to be around so much culture in LA that I can appreciate the differences, certainly not as much as an Asian person but as much as a random white guy who came to the US when he was 15 can.
Also LOLed at the bold. Had an americanized Chinese friend in the freshmen year dorms (later roommate) who talked so much chit on the Japanese dorm guys that I'm surprised noone was stabbed. Pretty sure one his statements was: "if you run your mouth for another minute I'm about to take revenge on your mom for the rape of nanking". I fukin lost it laughing.
Like Ali Wong said, Fancy Asian vs. Jungle Asian, most don't even share the same culture. I know a lot of completely Americanized Asians not speaking their language or appreciating the food. When I have kids one day, they will speak Vietnamese, even if it's broken Vietnamese and hard to understand.
It's understandable. On a separate note, I'm not a fan of a lot of what the French did in your homeland, but the result on the french vietnamese fusion, at least here in LA, is phenomenal. Just sayin.
Wow, a wife material right there peepz. I'm already taken, so single Asian bros, where are you?

Miscers seem to be referring to east asians and south east asians when they are talking about asians.
In contrast to here in the UK, where south asians, east asians and south east asians are referred to as asians.

I never liked any Asians except the Vietnamese and the South East Asians srs
There is a huge difference among them. I used to live near an area with large Viet community, I grew up with them and they will treat you like a bro once you be-friend with them and I'm not even Asian. I've learnt a lot from them for over decade. I'm talking about both Western born/raised Viets and those who came here recently.
The South East Asians are decent folk, are open, chill, friendly and have no problem having anyone in their social circle. I used to have plenty of Cambodian and Malaysian friends back then and they were nice.
The East Asians on the other hand are rude to anyone foreign to them. They look down on you, not open to you, have no manners and have a very tight social circle and only stick to their own ethnicity.
I've never got the answer to why East Asians are different to the others but anyway...
Cliffs: Viets > South East > Rest.

Asian people are pretty cool. Everyone likes JDM stuff. KOHH is probably my favorite Asian dude no homo.
I have a Hmong friend that's Jewish too.
