They can't help you prevent anything, or see it coming.
They can only tell you, you are focked, and here are some medicines you should take.
However, surgeons are important for accidents and taking out tumors from the body.

You think it's a coincidence that Med is so hard to get into as a course and engineering isn't? Why doctors get paidwaymore at every level of employment?
Then some guy trying to convince himself that his dad (seriously his dad) is proof that engineering is as good as medicine because his made up short-term hourly rate is higher than a junior doctor is the icing on the **** cake that is this thread.
This is why the public aren't allowed to diagnose themselves, because they are phucking retarded

I would never, ever try to claim that an average engineer makes more than an average doctor with similar experience levels. That would just be silly. Godfrd is just mad and now typing anything that comes to mind.

If we're gonna play this game let's compare a level 10 engineer with an Interventional cardiologist who makes on average $600k a year, and $450k starting??
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

1) doctors billings under 100k would only be working 1-2 days a week and/or have academic salaried positions (uncommon)
2) "average" incomes for physicians are VASTLY deflated always because they include those who do research, teach, work part time etc. Ones only focused on seeing patients and generating money often make double the average
3) By starting GP you mean a resident? Then yes. But starting attending GPs very often walk into 200k positions off the bat (many make more than that immediately)

During at least 4 years of undergradDid you check all the other ones? Also, that's for whole careers, whatever the one may mean, It seems someone can be at that level forever.

They then need to honor (basically get an A) in almost all of their classes during medical school, publish as many cardiology papers as they possibly can, get 90+ (probably 95+) percentile on two more standardized tests, this time scored against only other medical students, and suck enough cardiologist dink that you get great letters of recommendation from pretentious curmudgeonly academic cardiologists, during at least 4 years of medical school, probably 5 for a research year. Then you pray you get one of the limited residency spots, if not you literally cannot move forward until you do. Rack up an average of 200k debt in the process, added to whatever debt you might have from undergrad.
Then you do 7ish years of related internships, residencies, and fellowships, working 80-100 hrs/week for 30-40k salary (while making full payments on loans). Once you are fully licensed and out, in your mid 30s, you become a hospital's bish, and work 60-80 hours/week with overnight and weekend call.
They deserve the money man, if they paid any less nobody would do it. Also 2016 numbers are more like 400k average 300 starting due to insurance reimbursement changes. There's a reason physician is always in the top 3 careers with highest suicide rates.

every doctor I have ever dealt with in my life has been retarded and never actually got rid of w/e problems I had, the education system is sh*t
The American Medical Association [monopoly on licensing] a few years ago used to limit the amount of people that could become licensed doctors each year(artificially increasing their salaries)

I respect the training and knowledge that they go throuhg to become doctors, its certainly no easy feat and few people can do it.
That said, i also dont trust them and feel they are the first line of people working for pharmaceutical companies. I just assume they want to get us, particularly men, hooked on some sort of device or pills or god knows what. Once you give that trust over to them then it will be more and more and more pills, or this and that.
My Dad lived in central cal. got sick as he was old and was on like 10 different meds a day. he moved to san diego, got a new doctor and first thing he did was take away all those drugs, all of them.
So why was he on them in the first place?
They just want to get you in the system. Once there they got you hooked, just like a drug pusher. Think about it. Once you start noticing you will see a trend.
What happens with men is they start with slightly high blood pressure or cholesterol, better get some pills just to be on the safe side. Well, if you read the bottle, you cant stop taking these without side effects so once on them, you are at their mercy.
From here they will go to being pre diabetic or sleep apnea or low t. Same drill with every man.
Women go to the doctor all the time so they like being in the system, men dont so they need to get you hooked on something as fast as they can.

"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

Your level of knowledge on healthcare is so severely lacking (srs) it would take weeks for you to even scratch the tip of the iceberg. That's not an insult, it's just that most people are clueless on how the system works.

ITT: No one knows what they're talking about.
No, not everyone can become a doctor. If this is true, then everyone would be a doctor.
No, becoming a doctor is not easy. If it was easy, most people would breeze through undergrad and the MCAT. This isn't the case.
No, you have not seen "morons" as doctors. Doctors are people, they make mistakes. You probably wouldn't do any better.

honestly, GPs do seem like a bit of a scam. I'm not too opinionated on this, but they refer to a book or from memory just to give you a diagnosis and if things are too complicated they just refer you to a specialist and make 100k for that. I can see GPs being phased out over the next 10-20 years with the improvement of technology. Jack of all trades master of none is just the kind of feeling you get when they can help you with nothing but just refer you to someone else. I respect all the effort and hard work that is needed to be a doctor and I have utmost respect for all the specialists they refer you to.
