Around here the cop does not do anything, his equipment does. Plate gets scanned automatically.

I got nailed this way for a 1 day expired license. I was doing 25 in a 25 when I went by the cop and then 8 minutes later the cop caught up to me and pulled me over.

See what I mean? It's easy to say "nothing even happened", because yeah luckily nothing did. But if it had happened, like it has before, these types of stops can be scrutinized as things that should have never occurred in the first place. It's like people getting arrested for nothing and then charged with resisting arrest. Make legit stops or expect to be scrutinized by the people that pay your taxes. Don't forget you're a public servant and if your video/dashcam is available to the public, then not everyone is going to agree with your line of thinking
That whole first paragraph is playing out a hypothetical narrative that isn't applicable to this situation filled with assumptions which you are basing your argument off of. This leads to faulty logic.

As stated ITT by law enforcement these stops happen all the time. They run the plates and investigate. I don't blame the police or the state attorney. I blame the media for race baiting. This is a non story. If the state attorney was white no one would give a fukc, which is exactly what happens when they do these type of calls multiple times a week. But she's black so it's evidence that racism is alive and well in America and you can't hope to succeed if you're black. Give me a fukcing break.

It's sorry but you do have a "victim mentality" as you stated earlier. Can't see it objectively. Racism does exist but played no factor in this situation.

he did nothing wrong; cops run plates all the time. in fact, if your in an intersection and a cop pulls up behind you, theres a good chance that he is running plates on everyone around him. you'd be surprised how many people they catch with warrants because of it

The whole point is that the plates did not appear as registered to a vehicle. That's why she was pulled over, the tags weren't "open to police officers".

Why make stuff up?

The issue isn't checking the plates, it's making a stop without solid probable cause. Unlike finding a warrant or an expired tag, the plate number not appearing in the system isn't evidence of a crime, it's an absence of evidence.

These threads are tough because of racial sensitivity. It is why sensitivity training exists - to remind people that there are separate experiences outside of their own that may not match up to their reality. Reminder that this year has not started off to be great for either minorities or LE.

I've been pulled over a few times in my day for absolutely no reason. Give them license ,registration, weapons carry permit, and I tell them my pistol is on safe in the glove box. They usually ask random questions and I simply respond with "May I ask what crime was committed?. They have no answer. This goes back and forth 2-3 times. They realize Im not playing their game and I bounce. Always love the "do you live in this neighborhood" or "what are you doing here?" Bish Im LIVING MY LIFE BOYO.

Have had police randomly appear and ask me random questions then leave. Shout out to the random people that saw the scary black guys wearing polo shirts and boat shoes.
I've also been choked by a cop once, but once he realized he goofed in front of 30 + people and cameras he calmed down. Then they sent the black cop over for damage control.

People 100% profile black people. You can argue well crime stats warrant it, but its just a fact. Its an unfortunate fact of life. This is why I harp on black folks to either 1 . Patrol your own communities with a private militia or 2. Become the cops in your area. I see no reason to complain and march to your perceived oppressor. Also understand some of these cops have been black. I think a specific type of person becomes a cop just how a certain person joins the infantry vs intelligence .

inb4 miscers get triggered and rant about my "victim mentality"
It's unfortunate but the truth of the matter is no matter what you achieve in life as a black man you will always be treated as a black man. It's sad really.

They pulled her over because he said her license plate wasn't "coming back to anything". Why is that? Perhaps if that was fixed they would have avoided pulling her over at all. Seems like the real problem is in the computer system/data.

Imagine you're a cop you run a cars plates and it comes back empty instead of with the usual info, that is more than enough reason enough for you to investigate more.
Officer actually explained himself pretty clearly, and if anything that state attorney is on a power trip.
Whats the excuse for a cop running plates on me, never had a ticket, never committed a crime, nothing on my record, and still following me 10+ minutes across town on my tail the whole time and even on the freeway to get across town.

I dress fairly decently and that has never helped out. What I have noticed are cops being very standoffish, aggressive and somewhat paranoid until I utter a few sentences. I'm assuming their bias drops and they go "oh well geez this is a smart sounding black guy he can't be violent". Granted this is one anecdotal instance, but most of my black friends dress like gap/abercrombie models or skaters . That said I had some "concerned citizens" as the cops said claim that they heard a gun "click near us".

Cops came up at 100mph, guns drawn, and yelling. The thing was?...get ready....are you ready?

Open.Carry.State.LOL. We werent on state or federal property. I could have been doing the harlem shake with a semi automatic RPK and not broken a law. They didnt even ask if we had WCLs or anything. They just ran our names and after realizing we had no warrants or records they told us why. I almost flew off the handle and them "you know we can own guns too right? not every black is packing a throw away glock they bought off the street."

They're more likely to just pull over people that look "suspicious" than they are to run your tag first. 9 times out of 10 when they've pulled me over they didnt even run the tag until after I stopped. That's if you want the real answer to the question.

In the UK every single tag/numberplate is ran automatically by something called ANPR - I'm sure american cops have something similar because I know they can do BOLO's and that would be tedious af to do manually

If there is a police car behind you, your numberplate has been ran... if a cop drives past you on the opposite side of a single-lane-in-each-direction road your tag has been ran
