Hopefully the wife gets a large monetary reward in a civil suit.

It may not be the perfect punishment but it's better than nothing.

When someone is screaming like that, it's hard to think straight. You could send the average joe to boot camp and he'll forget his own name when a drill instructor is yelling at him. Now imagine someone yelling commands at you while pointing an assault rifle as well

He made a split second decision for officer safety and the safety of others in response to an imminent deadly threat. He need not wait to see the glint of steel to react in accordance with his training when lives are on the line. He didn't kill the suspect, he stopped the suspect's actions. He escorted the suspect to the ground. He discharged his duty weapon into the suspect's facial area. We can't review his decision-making in the line of duty with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight. We can't play Monday morning quarterback on this one. This was hard-nosed police work no doubt, but it was a reasonable response given the totality of the circumstances. Look, the fact is this: had the suspect complied with officer's lawful commands, he would still be alive. Play stupid games win stupid prizes. The officer's actions were commendable, in fact, heroic. For all we know the suspect could have had a nuclear weapon. The officer had to account for all of his surroundings, including the possibility of armed co-conspirators or confederates preparing to strike from the shadows. The officer had to do so in the line of duty in the field, and not from the airchair where we all sit in judgment of a situation we couldn't possibly understand. Imagine if the suspect was threatening YOUR daughter, how would you react? The officer's vantage isn't the same we can see on video. How could he know the suspect was unarmed? A knife wielding attacker can travel 21 feet in a second. That's a conservative estimate. The job's not as easy as you think. I'm gonna have to say this one's justified folks.

Huge cop supporter here. That cop clearly wanted an excuse to shoot him. There's absolutely no way he actually felt threatened by him trying to pull his damn pants up.

The orders ere meant to get him to slip up. Murder, 1st degree pre-meditated. Let's not forget what he was fired for.

The cop told him to keep his hands in the ****ing air multiple times then the guy complied. He was drunk as hell by the way. The officer THEN yells for him to crawl towards the officer. What kind of retarded order is that? The guys shorts were coming off and in his drunken stooper he went to pull them up. Also the tape wasn't allowed to be viewed by the jury.

He had been drinking all day and complied better than most people do...Especially considering the dumbass orders given.

Im one of the biggest supporters of cops on here but even I have to call manslaughter on that

- no intent to murder the dude
- mistakes made by cop lead to this dudes death
- the reach back could have been taken as aggressive but really are fault of cops poor actions

Guilty of manslaughter, max sentence for stupidity probably 15 years out in 7

If the dudes completely clean no record no drugs i can roll with murder second degree 25 years but dude would have to be completely clean

idk much about law enforcement procedures by that whole ordeal looked and felt very amateur

most of the time in other scenarios I've seen like this they have the perps face away, interlace their fingers behind their head and cross their feet and then another officer comes up and cuffs the person while the first officer keeps the gun trained on the person for cover. Can't say I've ever seen this crawl to me scenario before

I'm not really an LEO nut, but someone mentioned the cops were called because the dude was pointing a pellet gun out the window, the person who called probably said the guy was pointing a gun out the window. Cops come up to this guy thinking he has a gun, guy keeps reaching behind his back of course the cops are gonna think he's reaching for a gun. Stupid ass order to tell this dude to put his arms up then crawl toward him though. Why not just tell him to lie down face first hands directly above his head, then approach him slowly while telling him not to move?

Is this standard procedure for this kind of thing? seems like thats more of the issue than this isolated incident if so.

Also he did look like he was reaching behind his back while crawling.

Damn

Normally I'm 100% on the side of the police, but that was hard to watch. The guy obviously shouldn't have reached down, but damn the cop so misread that. The guy was so scared. How could anyone think he was a threat in that moment

I've seen plenty of clips on Cops where guys act scared/act sincere/act confused and pull out a gun or run.

My thoughts exactly. Not only that he was so petrified he was unable to think clearly and was bound to make mistakes drunk or not. He clearly displayed difficulty following instructions during the entire encounter.

They warned him multiple times.

The first time, sure. After that, lose the shorts.

Cops don't just roll into a situation with rifles. Have some situational awareness.

https://youtu.be/M62Va6Ft2cw

Officer was found not guilty
Tactics were chit idk of any dept that trains to have suspects crawl to them
The instructions were very clear not to reach
The initial radio call was for a man with a gun...

Justified shooting but either its a dept training issue or he could be disciplined/fired for unauthorized tactics

Don't know if it's been mentioned or not but the call to police was a report of the guy sticking a rifle out the window.
