All in good timeI can see how this would be more challenging for someone to complete than one of the donation threads or gettings reps for filling out _______.

Every unit counts, so I'm happy.

Just hit the 2 gallon mark with today’s donation!

Also everyone should sign up for bone marrow at bethematch.org another way to really help those who need it. Share your health!

Is donating bone marrow more serious than blood?

Heard its harder for patients to find so would be interested in donating some. Would have to think twice if it's really physically draining though.

Donated on presidents day I'll have to get the pic off my phone.

The local classic rock station was giving out tickets to see Def Leppard and Journey in concert. I didn't go to win the tickets but because I had the day off decided to knock it out. I didn't win btw. Did the usual double red blood cell donation. Next donation date is on my birthday.
hard to hate on a fellow wings fan but....

When I did it they said there’s 2 ways the patient can get bone marrow depending on their health. One is from some machine like thing that is like a blood donation but takes 4-5 hours (thankfully is what I did) the other is the needle in the spine and they said that does hurt. Either way I’d do it if it meant saving a life. Plus I think they said the odds of being a match were like 1 in 400,000(don’t quote me it was 3 years ago)so you probably wouldn’t have to worry about it anyways

Yep. Most of the requests regarding bone marrow is just to sign up for the registry and get swabbed (very simple, painless, non-invasive). The chances of being a perfect match are quite slim, however not every case requires a perfect match. I've seen many statistics thrown around but each year there is about a 1/500 chance you will be asked to perform further testing, just to determine thepotentialof donating.

Cliffs: Go get swabbed.

Nice, literally found this thread at the blood center while on my phone. Definitely gonna have to go get swabbed for bone marrow soon, I thought they pulled out of your pelvis via needle.

All good

The double red blood cell thing was kind of odd. One needle but the machine periodically reverses the flow and dumps saline into you. The needle and the line vibrates slightly. Took at least 20 min from the needle stick which is well over double my normal time
