Shoots .45 colt, .410 slugs, .410 buckshot, .410 birdshot and a number of shells made for it, hnnnnngggg
Its what I carried into Portland, OR when I was doing storage unit auctions, and had 1k-2k in cash on me all the time
Easy to carry with a belly band holster

OP, this is an idiot.

What you have here is someone that thinks that barrel length doesn't matter for shotguns, so he's recommending you a shotgun with a 3" barrel.

A 9mm semi-auto handgun is infinitely better than this gimmick pistol.

I will cast another vote for the gen 4 glock 19.

If you only have one gun and need something that hits the sweet spot between home defense and carry able, the Glock 19 is probably the best overall gun you can get.

Swap out the sights for some night sights and grab a spare mag or two, and youre all set. you can get the gun, new sights, and mags and some ammo for 1k easy.

Since you are in TX, getting your conceal carry will not be an issue either. Just make sure you hit the range and practice so you feel 100% comfortable with whatever you are carrying and can draw from holster and get shots on target.

Congratulations for deciding to exercise your 2nd amendment rights, IMO you are making a great choice in doing so.

Is it for home defense or ccw? For home defense a glock 17 for ccw a 26/27

One gun to do everything? Glock 19. Want to carry it on the regular? Glock 26. Both are begging for better triggers but you can make them work out of the box.

If you aren't going to carry it, AR15 all day.

Thanks guys. I’ll be going through giving out reps for the next days. I think I’m leaning towards the Glock 19 so far. It looks like the next question would be what generation? Is there differences with new generations adding features that make it worth it, or even possibly older generations being more preferred over new? I’m going to do my own research on that but good to just ask for general direction.

Going to Gen 4 over Gen 3 allows you to fit the gun to your hand better. Some have noticed better accuracy with Gen 5 compared to 4. Gen 3, 4, and 5 are all compatible with the same magazines. Some Gen 5 guns will not fit into Gen 3/4 holsters. I'd get a 4, the 5 costs more and this is a defensive gun, not a target pistol.

Right, so 5x .410 slugs at 90 grains or 15+1 9mm JHP at 147 grains with the 9mm being expanding hollowpoints, and you seriously think the Judge is better? Not only is the 9mm going to offer you better performing rounds and higher capacity, you can actually train with it and become comfortable with your firearm.

The Judge looks like a great firearm for shooting snakes and small rodents if you have an infestation, but the OP wants to defend himself.

There has never been a better time to buy an AR. I'm keeping an eye out for sales, and will probably make a "so you want to buy an AR" thread today.

OP didnt read other responses, but long history of guns here:

As a beginner you are going to want a smaller caliber, dont think they 'cant kill' just as easy.

For this you are either going to want 9mm or .38 special. 9mm is your 'standard' pistol size and is a more conventional pistol with a magazine, usually more rounds (8 to 16), easy reloads, less kick but usually a bigger pistol (you can still get some concealed, but I'd go .38 for that.)

38s are your 'revolvers' and they pack a serious punch in typically a small weapon. These are a lot better for concealed given smaller size (but rounds are bigger than 9mm ironically) but you are limited to only 5-6 rounds typically, reloading is a lot slower as well (no magazine).

You need to decide what it is for, strictly defense, wanting to learn to shoot, wanting to target practice?

If you got a budget of 1k, I'd recommend actually getting a Ruger SR22 pistol (~200-300$), its a pistol that shoots .22s and you can buy 500 rounds for 30$. This is a great way to get 'trigger time' and used to firing, holding weapons etc. Then you can use the other 600~ to get your 9mm or 38 for defense.

For the gun, the easy answer is "Glock G19 Gen4". Accessories are readily available, capacity is good, they're fairly easy to shoot, totally reliable, and you can probably find one for ~$500.

For a slightly better shooting pistol, look at a Walther PPQ M2 or an H&K VP9 (Full size or SK)
this..

G19 is unbeatable.. have friends who are rangers special contractors and they all swear by Glock.. if you want some upgrades look into agency arms Glock..

The link I posted is factory new for $187/1000.

With ammo, stick with brass instead of steel casings. A lot of people like shooting 124 gr rather than 115 gr ammo, but you'll figure that out as you go. The cheapest range ammo is generally 115 gr, but the link I provided is 124.

Stick with

American Eagle
Federal
PPU/PRVI Partizan (This is Serbian Military)
Magtech (CBC, Brazilian Military)
IMI (Israeli Military)
PMC (South Korean Military)
Speer
Sellier & Bellot (Now owned by CBC)
MEN (German Military)

Avoid:
-Remington
-Tula
-Winchester (literally AIDS)
-anything named after a Bear or Wolf.

Your Glock will literally eat anything if you keep it lubed, but the "avoid" ammo can have accuracy problems, reliability problems, and quality control problems like bullets being loaded in backwards (serious), primers inserted backwards (serious) or messed up cases, etc.

The other ammo I linked (Federal 147 gr HST JHP) is self-defense ammo for shooting human beings to defend yourself. I recommended it because it expands reliably and gets adequate penetration.
Florida Crew as of 3/21

What part of "Shall Not Be Infringed" are you having trouble with?

I recommend that ammo to all of my friends and anybody that I end up talking to about firearms. It's a very impressive round and great price for what you get.
