So You Want to Buy an AR15, 7/27 Edition

Somehow, you're an American who still doesn't own an AR15. I don't know how this is possible, but here's how to fix it for $511:

Have this complete lower shipped to your FFL, $179.99:https://aeroprecisionusa.com/ar15-co...ndard-fde.html

Have this complete upper shipped to your house, $285.00:http://www.schuylerarmsco.com/produc...des-bcg-ch-993

Have this rear sight shipped to your house, $46.99:http://www.opticsplanet.com/magpul-m...ght-gen-2.html

Quick video showing how to clean an AR15, which is also how you'd assemble the above components:

Of course, you'll need mags and ammo. Here's 10 PMAGs and 1000 rounds for $299.99 after rebate:http://palmettostatearmory.com/1000-...magazines.html

Being active duty isn't going to affect what is commercially available to you. I don't know if you're able to own an AR15 in Connecticut. If you're 21 years old, you can buy the above pieces, which are about as cheap as you can get an AR15 without it being a piece of trash.

Nah bro. You just need to go sign out some pieces from your armorer, and then proceed to put down fake name, battle roster, etc. Take the pieces home. When CID investigates you say you got the military grade hardware from somewhere else, since you know, being in the military allows you to somehow get military grade hardware elsewhere.

The guide is good. Just use it lol.

You can smell the green grass on him lol. Highly reminiscent of the guys who wear their uniforms to the malls after duty. "Oh, you just drove 20 miles from Fort Carson to Chapel Hills? Tell me more about how you didn't have time to stop at home, 6pm in the evening, for socially acceptable dresswear."

we have not spent the last 65 million or so years finely honing our physiology to watch Oprah. Like it or not, we are the product of a very long process of adaptation to a harsh physical existence, and the past couple centuries of comparative ease and plenty are not enough time to change our genome. We humans are at our best when our existence mirrors, or at least simulates, the one we are still genetically adapted to live. And that is the purpose of exercise. - Mark Rippetoe

Yes, the AR15 is an incredibly easy gun to learn on. Recoil is negligible, ammo is cheap and readily available (I think with the rebate you can get ammo at Walmart for under 30 cents/rd), and the ergonomics on the gun are amazing. Upgrading the furniture (handguard, stock, pistol grip) is very easy, and is toolless except for the pistol grip, which requires a screwdriver.

It's a useful firearm for defending yourself at home, and is a ton of fun at the range.

Factors for determining a quality AR15:
-Material:
Receivers and Buffer tube should be 7075 Aluminum
Bolt Carrier should be 8620
Bolt should be Carpenter 158
Barrel should be 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium and either Nitride (QPQ) or Chrome lined.
-Barrel Twist should be 1:7
-Staking
Properly staked castle nut and gas key

This is an older guide that highlights these points. QPQ wasn't being used in rifles at the time.https://forum.officer.com/forum/equi...y-an-ar-15-huh

While a midlength gas system is preferable, they're harder to find at this pricepoint. Carbine gas systems still run, and have run reliably for decades, they're just slightly less smooth. If your indoor range is at least 25 yards, you can still have a good time with an AR. While it's fun to stretch an AR out, shooting an AR with irons at 25 yds is a good time as well.

Every purchase of an Aero Product I've made through Aero has included a big logo sticker.

Here's an alternate lower option with Extra Swag, though you have to build it yourself:
