How often did you feel bored?

Breakdown of internal thoughts throughout the experience? Percentage of negative thoughts/ideas, neutral thoughts, positive thoughts? Any difference compared to those you would have on a typical day where socializing is almost guaranteed to happen?

Energy levels any higher than usual or did you notice any changes in your energy during those ten days?

Dreams any more vivid or detailed?

Libido increased or decreased at all?

Did you exercise at all during those ten days?

Overall thoughts, and would you repeat the experience for any amount of days?

This is why i find it retarded. Its literally like sucking your soul away.. Thats why you dont "react" - because theres nothing there.. Its like being extremely passive - the ultimate cuck.

Want to add to this. Ive explored this chit a lot

And when you really stop to think about it, does it not sound sinister. Like someone convincing you that your life isnt worth living?

They have this thing called the "vanishing narrative" i.e. no story. E.g. there is no "you"

Its honestly like the biggest human travesty.

Similarly imagine someone telling you theres no "you" - therefore you dont react, as they murder your family

I dont think all practicioners are like this, i just think these are the roots of a lot of meditation/ eastern philosophy.

If you look at the quality of life and advancements of western life vs. Buddhism its pretty convincing which one is more productive.

It's just that quite literally, the size of your amygdala reduces - this is what causes the decreased feelings of fear and emotional reactiveness.

You get nervous talking to hot girls? Well after meditating enough, you just stop feeling any real fear when talking to these girls, which means you can behave normally and genuinely which in my opinion, leads to better conversations with hot girls.

It's worth it, IMO
Yea but thats not "courage" imo. Courage is having the fear and facing it; that would be a lot of pressure

Not trying to remove yourself so you react less

in theravada buddhism, you aren't allowed to charge to spread the way of meditaiton, so it was free. i donated to the organisation though, but i was surprised at how little they pressure you to donate

bro honestly, it was too difficult to be a waste of time. you can't waste your time doing soemthing that's so ****ing hard to do. you have to adapt and improve in order to last the time.

agree, but the reason you do the meditation in silence and in the quiet is so you can 'calm the mind' to the level where you can notice even the subtlest sensation. this is basically a pretentious way of saying you get better at noticing sensation

lmao, i wanted to get my book from my car but i wasn't allowed. now that i'm home i feel a lot more present, concentrated and happy. but tbh. i attribute a lot of this to it being an exciting experience to tell people about. but there were a few moments today where i WOULD have got annoyed at something, but i noticed the sensation of anger and decided that it would be unproductive. the most valuable takeaway from vipassana is definitely this ability - it gives you so much more control of your mind, because you're simply more aware of it. it's so weird to think that we might not be aware of our minds but 99% of the day we aren't we're caught up in the flow of thought or emotion, and aren't introspective. this means that we can't control over them. the beginning of vipassana meditation, and maybe even the whole path, is just becoming more introspective.

also it's like i've unlocked another dimension to life noticing my sensations in mundane things like turning on the tap or typing. we very rarely focus on sensations but it's actually enriching.

lastly doing something that mentally difficult and overcoming negative thought taught me a ****load about regulating my own mind to get the best outcome out of life

90% of people have that problem. you work up to meditating for a total of 3 hours a day of 'strong determination' sitting, where you have to sit completely still.

that's true. i don't have any past traumas, though you get crazily emotional. i really don't recommend it to anyone who is unstable. i think of myself as a pretty stable person and my thoughts were absolutely fukt, i couldn't control them at all for days 1-4. i had nothing to do but just sit there as my mind wound up and down about stupid chit like how i missed my gf so much, how i just left her without any contact, how i can't leave because i'll regret it forever. time seemed like infinity and it was super painful tbh lol.

Most things that the majority of us do in our day to day lives don't require courage, they just require presence. Presence is being purely focused on what you're doing.

For example, a year back I had to give a presentation with the key players in my consulting team to a fortune 100 client that we've been working for - this audience was filled with people very high up on the food chain. I was so scared the night before while rehearsing, and seconds before the presentation when it was my turn to speak, my heart was beating so hard that I felt other people could hear it.

I was purely focused in the future about how I would fuk it all up.

But once I started talking, all my fear went away. I was purely present - there was an absence of thought because I couldn't think, I could only perform. This is where meditation shines, IMO. It keeps you in this state of mind all the time - purely present and not focused on stuff that happened years ago, or stuff that may happen years from the present moment.
Ok, i can agree. There are lots of forms of meditation and different practices, so hard to talk about it tbh.

If youre talking about fully enculcating yourself in the moment then i agree.

However would you say they work on "detachment"?

If i described to you attachment vs. Detachment

And then asked you to describe facing something vs. Running away.. Which of the aforementioned "presences" fit with the latter (attachment and facing or detachment and running away)

I know most, if not all, meditation centers around "nirvana" and nirvana is supposed to be the ultimate detachment

It makes sense really. Remove yourself from all of these things (wordly possessions, relationships, etc. - go in the mountains in silence not around anything, etc.)

And youre blissfully unresponsible because youve removed yourself from any pressures/ attachments - "nirvana"

Dont agree with the "thoughts are useless"

If you had no thoughts you wouldnt do anything

Also, i edited a bit into my previous post. Ironically (or not) "not doing anything" and isolating yourself in the mountains seems to fit

The purpose of meditation is to simply detach yourself from your thoughts. Thoughts occupy a large amount of our time/emotional energy and are ultimately, useless. Without thoughts, we become present.

It's something you have to consciously notice in your day to day life - for example, I like to hand wash my dishes since the dishwasher makes them slightly smell. When I handwash, I try to stay focused on the water, soap, and cleaning the fork/spoon/dish. However, many times, thoughts will creep into my head and the next thing I know, I'm thinking about something completely irrelevant to what I'm doing, such as my boss, or how I can get revenge on someone, etc. Meditation would allow me to be focused purely on the task at hand.

The effect of this is that over time, you think less and less of these useless thoughts. Over a lifetime, you spend YEARS on useless thoughts. It's meant to improve the overall quality of your life when you remove them.

Meditation as a means of detachment from physical objects or relationships is not the intention, in my opinion. That's more of a Buddhism philosopy.
Think youre describing mindfulness

Honestly i dont see how mindfulness and detachment fit.

Mindfulness sounds like being fully engrossed and egoic, its just that your ego is fully preoccupied with itself. Therefore other things unimportant

Whereas detachment imo - is removing yourself from the situation/ running away - therefore you dont react.

Anyways man, i like what youre describing and it sounds good for you. So keep doing it i guess

chicken, spoke to one of the meditators and felt like i was drunk or something. it is so weird because you realise that words just flop out of your mouth and it feels like nothing is occuring in consciousness while you're speaking, maybe that's just because it's so hard to focus on what is occuring while ur speaking but idk. i was kind of mindblown at how i even manage to string a sentence together, given how automated the process seems when you pay attention.

I'm still undecided as to whether it's a complete waste of time for someone like me who has no anger management issues (this seems to be the kind of person who benefits the most from meditation) and usually have my emotions in check. Or I could just be telling myself that because I'm too lazy to sit down every day for 20 minutes in silence. I'd rather just play my guitar to be honest.

I mean, you said there's joy in turning on a tap and typing... really?

Very well put. But I think even without meditation you would've nailed the speaking part as it's difficult to think about the future whilst you're performing such a difficult task.

I agree about it allowing you to worry less, though.
