I think the problem with Tesla is that, they had a niche in the market, but now almost every car manufacturer can do the same thing, and has way more money to spend in their R&D.

The hyperloop for example has a lot of people questioning many of its aspects but none of those people are being given a platform.

The replacements for the Lamborghini Huracán and Aventador are both likely to be hybrids. High performance hybrids are going to be filtering into the enthusiast segment at an increasing pace.

As cool as the 0RMP torque of the Tesla is, there is nothing like the roar of an internal combustion engine. Once you can have both and from many manufacturers Tesla's brief niche will begin shrinking rapidly.

Within 5 years you will many choices when it comes to performance hybrids that get both amazing range and sound like a proper supercar when you want them to.

It's going to be interesting see what happens. They have sold a good number of cars, and they are vehicles many wish to own.
If they are unable to ramp up production, maybe the government will bail them out giving them time to sort out the mess. Possibly Tesla will be merged with another automaker. Maybe Tesla can contract out with another auto company to assemble their cars. Porsche I recall used to do that with their Boxster, with Opel making the Boxster initially. They could go out of business but I hope that doesn't occur. I hate to see an American auto producer in dire straights.

I do not believe that people will be flying through a near vacuum.

Failures are fatal and the loop itself is indefensible.

Imagine planes that fly at roof top level where if you shoot one down all planes in the sky crash.

Then do proper research then and watch the many vids where the science is questioned.

Science and engineering do not let you create a birthday cake that is also a baseball bat.

When people bring up amazing inventions you need to remember that possible things were created.

Let me bring up some of the more serious issues:

-thermal expansion/contraction

On a bridge there are joints for this so the bridge segments and change size without destroying the bridge. If you employ the same technology for the hyperloop you need to do this while maintaining a pressure seal that withstands being cycled every day without rupturing. The longer the loop is the more joints that are required, each adding a point of failure.

-depressurization

In the event of an accident the pressure differential is so great that air will rapidly fill the loop. The reason for the near vacuum is to reduce air resistance allowing for high speed. If the loop is suddenly filled with air the pods will decelerate so rapidly that the people inside will be killed. On top of that you cannot segment the loop as any segment that had a door that fails to open correctly will kill everyone that hits it and each segment increases the odds of this. There has to be a contiguous near vacuum to maintain high velocity travel.

-defense

It takes military equipment to shoot down a airliner. Anyone with a powerful rifle can destroy the hyperloop by shooting it at any point. Can you even imagine the expense involved in securing and armoring a hyperloop that travels hundreds of even thousands of miles?

The pods have life support systems. The tube is designed to be pressurized if need be.

The pods are designed to handle 100 PA.

If there is a significant leak - the system is designed to have everything slow down.

They will then use more energy of course to get the pod to the next station as the vacuum doesn't exist.

As far as defense goes - it will be easier to blow up a train, bullet train, airliner, bus system, subway --- than a hyperloop system.

The financing is what worries me the amount of liabilities on their balance sheet is ridiculous and they need model 3 production to go well to get enough revenue to continue operations at this point. This needs to happen in the next 1-2 years at the same time when a recession is seemingly on the horizon. So its definitely very interesting to follow. Theres a bunch of funds using satellites and tracking VINs for components coming into the U.S. to figure out model 3 production for next quarter. I think even if they do go belly up, the IP from the battery tech(which is the best on the market) and the auto pillot tech will be worth billions. Although im not sure what valuation for that that tech alone would result in. I think now is when you can make huge money if you can figure out what is happening in the next year. The stock is definitely setting up for some massive swings one way or another.

They do have the Gigafactory and the Supercharger network, the sensible choice at this point would be to use them as bargaining chips for an acquisition - as they have amazing potential - and close down the car apartment, since they really can't compete with the major players and are just oozing money. The production/research/experience background of a major carmaker coupled with Tesla's networks could spell something spectacular.

Making the claim that an accident can be planned for implies that plane crashes, car crashes, train crashes ........ don't kill people.

The velocity cannot be dissipated faster than a human can withstand. If that planned deceleration is less than the physics of air resistance demands the plans wont matter. Your brain will splatter against the front of your skull. Ever see the crash test dummy results from a Smart Car high speed crash? The car comes out great but the dummy shows that the lack of crumple zone causes extreme deceleration casing extensive organ damage.

You have to wait for the train, bus, plane, taxi, whatever. You can shoot the loop anywhere. The nearest pod can be miles away, it is irrelevant. Tear a hole in the loop and it catastrophically fails.

Let me tell you what you wont ever see.

You wont see a test where they build an actual size loop, put in a real pop, get it up to speed and then simulate a failure. If they do the public support will vanish in an instant. All we will ever see if small scale demonstrations that do not involve humans going many hundreds of miles per hour.

Go to youtube and search for:

This the reality of pressure differential physics over a few meters. Scale that up to many miles and do the math.

Tesla is stiffing a lot of its contractors saying they'll pay them later.

If any of those contractors tell Tesla to screw themselves and stop working until they get paid, it might fall like dominoes for Tesla. Now the job can't get done, sales can't be made and other contractors aren't getting paid, then more and more people walk off until game over.
