Was listening to Joe Rogan's podcast where he is speaking to a longevity doctor, and he basically explained that on average people who are morbidly obese don't eat tremendously more than the average joe, but obviously a 500 pound man is eat tons more. Furthermore, their body is just doing everything wrong in a metabolic sense. The body has not learned how to properly use and burn energy, instead creates fat deposits. Plus, these people make bad lifestyle choices which trains the metabolic system to work in an inefficient way.

Did you cut out almost all carbs out of your diet?

Did you cut out processed foods and added good, whole foods?

I lost the first 40 lbs in my living room with no exercise except diet modification. So yes, it's laziness.

Yes to your first 2 items. And yes, it worked, for a while. Then I plateaud, then it reversed itself and the weight came back. No, I didn't deviate from the diet. Yes, I added exercise. Then more exercise, and lifting. By the end I was doing ~20 pullups and still weighed 350+lbs. I got stronger, but didn't lose weight.

So you're wrong.

WTF? Laziness is definitely a factor in obesity, along with depression, enabling family members and mental illness. Hard work never equals zero fesults in this game unless your diet is sht, which is the cause of obesity in the first place.

Do you have a diagnosed health issue?

If the answer is no - then I don't believe you. Sorry.

You DID end up losing the weight though. How'd you do it? And why did it finally come off? Medications?

Out of morbid fascination I'm actually impressed with their ability to maintain that level of hugeness. The minimum calories to just keep that weight has to be huge.

When you get to the point where you need to eat 10,000 calories a day and never get out of bed to NOT lose weight..... WTF

At first the blame is 100% on them, then they seem to share that with the people that run out and get them tons of food to eat. Once you get that huge you need that enabler to keep feeding you.

Yes, I have a diagnosis of Hypothyroidism.

I lost weight doing what you described. A low carb diet. It no longer works. I've tried it ~5 times in the last 2 years with zero success. Low carb no longer works whatsoever. I took OTC Thyroid supplements along with the low carb diet.

Great. I lost 80, then gained it back when the diet quit working.

I would like to see a 350lb out of shape/fat dude do 20 pull-ups. That is some insane back/grip strength.

I was always impressed by this as well but I'm assuming at some point their metabolism is so messed up they don't actually require that much food to maintain all those gains.

Upper body strength has never been an issue for me. I did pretty well in the military on those aspects of the PT test. My problem was always running, and initially I struggled with situps but got pretty good at those too after a while. I'm ~400lbs right now (I don't have an exact number because I don't have access to a scale that goes that high) and even without exercising for probably a year I can still do a couple pullups right now.

I don't think you realize how incredible that feat really is... you should be extremely proud of that. You probably should've gotten a video because that's more than likely a world record for that bodyweight. It almost sounds unbelievable but I would never question the authenticity of that claim. Just a bummer that video doesn't exist. Darn.

I used to do similar amounts of weight in the military (~200lbs for my body + equipment consisting of ruck sack, full canteens, kevlar and weapon slung).

I worked on it 3 days a week for about a year when I was on the keto diet. I used to work in a building that has a gym in it so I went up during my lunch break each day and spent ~30 minutes on it (or other exercises).

You had me going till the "~20 pull ups". And now you're insisting it's true, which makes me think you are delusional.

Some people on this board actually do pull-ups. We know what it takes to do them. No, you are not doing it at 350lbs obese.

The mind is a powerful thing OP. Most people (in the state you describe) have a psychological addiction to hyperpallatable food.

So, the guy in the OPs pic, that's a legit mental condition. Just a complete lack of regard for eating healthy and knowing it and being OK with it.

However, your average 30% bodyfat person? Just a simple lack of discipline and/or understanding of what they're eating.

350x20? I'm sure you could get 5 at 400. Even if you only get 3 or 4 full range pullups that'd be one hell of a lift and would put at least some sort of authenticity to the claim. It'd be great to see man, I'm sure you can deliver...
