Thanks for the reply! I've been bulking on 3500ish gaining really slowly so I think 3000 will be a good figure to aim for.

I see Muslims out and about all the time, there are several at my kid's kindergarten and nobody cares. I live in one of the most conservative cities in Texas (won't give out name, but it took a little getting used to moving up from Austin). My wife is non-white, strong Lebanese mix (and looks it), we don't get hassled or experience *******ry save the very, very rare occasion.

While there might be a little culture shock, people asking about where you're from and whatnot, being a Muslim or from Syria or whatever won't negatively impact you living in Texas, beyond maybe the very rare instance of some dumbass redneck mouthing off. We're generally very friendly, very cool and very accommodating.

In Chicago? They have a huge South Asian / Middle Eastern population there though. That's weird.

..........

Day 1 for some of y'all. Hope it goes well.

I did some olympic lifting this morning followed by a light 1000m row. Plan on doing some cardio a lil later.

Is it me or the act of fasting make you more humble and chill ?

Yep, that's the side affect of it. Some people get hangry though. lol.

Day 3 for us.

My diet: no sugar, very low/no carb. I'm having a date at iftar and then my dinner consists of a huge salad with grilled chicken or steak and a bit of homemade yogurt dressing (plain Greek yogurt with lemon and salt). Sahur is two cups of coffee (tbls of heavy, full fat, cream) and a glass of water. Feeling the lethargy bad today ... but it will pass.

Iftar at one of my sister's house on Sunday. Pics incoming.

For those that train after iftaar, do you find your body temperature to be through the roof? Could it be the fact my body is still digestiving the huuuuge plate of pasta I had like 2 hours before?

My favorite basketball player Hakeem Olajuwon brought me here. Before the dream I didn't know what Ramadan was, I remember him playing in the NBA playoffs during Ramadan.

Trying to get back into the gym. Sucks when you hear "bro where do you lift nowadays".. so much wasted potential. Alhamdulilah for genes just sucks not being able to really keep track of everything or knowing how your transformation started when you're so irregular and body changes so quickly for me.

I dunno, my energy usually starts waning around 2 pm. I've been leaving work around 3 pm and napping.

How do you make time for lifting between iftar and taraweh? It's such a short timeframe!

I work out in the morning.

My sis had a graduation/iftar party last night. I stayed good on my diet (little to no carbs) saving the cals/carbs for a slice of cake at the end. By the time all the guests were served, there was no cake left for me.

Will make my guy take me to a nice bakery for my fav slice this weekend!

Like a dodo, I left my phone at home, so no food pics, but there were about 15 dishes total through the night. CRAZY.

Hope going well.

We seven day adventists I don't think have a period of fasting. Many of them are grazers though, like farm animals almost.

What's that? I'm not aware of seven day adventists.

I know the Mormons fast the first of every month - they skip two meals. It's interesting what people tell you when they know you're fasting. I love the exchange of information about the various rituals/practices of other faiths.

Hakeem Olajuwan at 7' 250+ lbs would play 41 minutes while fasting during Ramadan and not drink a sip of water. Personally I don't think I can do that without water

impressive, kiddo. good job.

I'm not gonna lie, been particularly chitty this year spiritually. but a lot of it came from stupid responses to hardships I've been facing in life. tryna get back in it and gonna start fasting and minimize debauchery starting with tomorrow's fast.

I lived in Doha for about 3yrs and they just flipped the schedules for the whole country. Like everything would be closed during the day and the stores and malls would open after iftar. What are your thoughts on this? As a non muslim this made it very hard for me as I worked 6pm-6am and none of the stores opened until after 6pm and were obviously closed by 6am.

Yes. It's pretty warm outside and I'm always cold. It starts around 2 pm. By 3 pm, I'm dragging. I go home at 4 and crash - take a nap (in a warm blanket).

So does bad diet, heavy night of drinking, ache/sore muscles etc. What I meant is that athletes still perform, it's really on the person's body how much it affects them.

Again, I've set some lifting PRs during Ramadan.

In his case... BIG sins.

Always a time to change. Always a time to ask for forgiveness.

No, it shouldn't be like that. Again, you're not supposed to modify your livelihood - you should still go to school and work. However, you're supposed to dedicate a lot of time to prayer and worship too.

Havent misced in a while. Very cool to see non-muslims come in and comment. I know in the old misc there were a bunch of non-muslims in those threads and we'd all chat and talk and be cool but with the misc as it is now, its refreshing to see. thanks for your posts all of you.
