I interviewed with them for a finance role in 2009 when I got my MBA and remember thinking they were a disaster and I didn't think they'd be solvent for more than 5 years. My timing was off but by the people I met with I am not surprised. They weren't interested in evolving at all. They stuck to their formula.

Buyer's are too informed and everyone sells everything now....

I remember when it was a big deal when the Christmas catalog arrived in the mail and everyone would make a collage of the cut-out items they wanted for Christmas. You had no idea what was in the store or the latest toys being sold. You had the limited amount of TV commercials on a few channels before network television arrived. (we had like 4 channels). It was a big revealing every time you walked in that store....you never knew what they had for the most part.

one of our iconic malls here in florida already closed down. the other is a ghost town and will follow soon....

we have 1 thats still healthy though, but thats mostly cause they have a lot of restaurants and the best movie theater in town.

we didnt really have much toy r us money growing up, but it was awesome to play around in.
cant imagine being a rich kid going to that store.

My parents would take me to Toys R Us and that's where I got a bunch of my childhood toys. The Super Nintendo, the Sega Genesis, Mountain bike, GI Joes, Super Soaker guns for waterfights with my friends...... nerf guns...... and all these fun board games back in the day, like Crossfire, Hungry hungry hippos, RISK, ......

then my friends would come over and we had a big water fight with our guns in my backyard but we'd run in the house too even though we weren't supposed to, and almost broke a glass door once because we crashed into it while running and the floor was slippery.


whenever a relative of mine wanted to give me a gift, they would just take me to Toys R Us for me to pick something.

I remember when I was like 8 yrs old, my aunt came to my house and picked me up, and took me to Toys R Us to pick out something, and I got a video game. This was a very important decision. It wasn't every day you could get a new game..... back then you had to play the **** out of the games you had....... there was no free games via download on the PS Store every month..... no free games like Fortnite via download on the internet....... anyway.... I got Those little yellow slips and took it to the back counter. Then on the car ride home, I would open the games and read the instruction booklet. That car ride home is where you had time to learn the controls and stuff, getting you all hyped to get home fast so you could pop that cartridge in and play....... plus, you would learn the "Story" and lore of the game in the booklet.



And another time, for Xmas, my parents took me to Toys R Us and told me to get 5 things I wanted. If it was too expensive, they'd say no, but normally the answer was yes. I would go nuts and run around the store as an 9 year old looking for the best toys to pick. I think that's when I got my first Super Soaker 50, it was yellow. Oh, yeah, and I got a few remote control cars there, and a remote control harley davidson motorcycle. Man I was psyched. Good memories.

if I had kids, I'd take them to Toys R us. I'll deal with the crowds for their sake.

Those types of memories are priceless.

Back in the 90s, telling a little kid you were taking them to Toys R Us to get them soemthing, was magic. Eyes light up and they get hyped up and excited.

my 6 year old son loved toys r us. walmart and target might have a toy section but it doesn't remotely compare to toys r us.

I also worked there as a department supervisor at babies r us. very fun place to work at, until they went from 1200 hours of payroll a week, to 800 hours, and eventually to 400-600 hours depending on sales. Brb some part timers had 3 hour shifts and only worked twice a week (strong 6 hour paycheck, i felt bad for them). Thats when I knew the company was going under and I got out. It took 5 years tho from when I left for them to go.

Toys R Us will be back someday

My last memory of Toys R Us was in 2010 and going there in my early 20s to buy a bunch of nerf guns with some friends for a nerf party. We spent like $500 on nerf guns. It was fun being in there, because prior to that, I hadn't been in there since I was maybe 13 or 14.
