i like how logic turned into a cry baby rapper
i remember when he was barely making music and it was all about weed (i had him on myspace lol)
There are "good" rappers out there, but they are not famous or promoted for obvious reasons. There is a globalist force thats larger than all of us pushing femininity among men. Not sure why, but its gotta be bad

Even Tupac started out a generally conscious rapper in the early 90s, and ended up a typical Gangsta rapper by time he died.
DMC literally refers to 80s rappers as examples of the things that are needed in modern rap.

Tupac was generally a more consious rapper earlier but he has a controversial song about shooting up cops that made it into the mainstream media even back then in 91'. My point is that it's always kind of been a part of rap culture and hip-hop as a whole. In the late 70s and early 80s started out as sort of party records and what not but even since the mid 80s you've always seen "gangsta" culture as a motif in rap music. Some people weren't necessarily glorifying it but used it as more of a storytelling/expression of their life kind of piece.DMC (the dude in the video) was a rapper in the 80s, and likely was referring to the gangsta rap domination of hip hop since the mid 90s.

Even DMC in the video says that gangsta rap was around in his time, but there was more diversity in the mainstream. Nowadays the mainstream seems dominated by gangsta rap.
Like he says, nowadays the overwhelming majority of videos and songs are about a handful of topics; violence, drugs, sex, and materialism.

I can't even remember the best album I listened to this year, because they've all been pretty forgettable.

Pusha T raps about being a rich violent career criminal.
Royce Da 5 9 raps about being a violent career criminal (literally raps about shooting people).
I am aware that some of the names you presented do conscious rap.
Edit: Just googled, and apparently Nipsey Hustle is a phuckin Crip!
People (like you) seem to be posting based on the thread title alone.

I think the scene was pretty diverse in the 80s. Though I'm 34 and I didn't grow up listening to rap in that era, I listened to hip hop in the 90s.

Overall, I think we agree with each other. My first post ITT was after I had skimmed the thread and assumed the convo was about the lack of quality music, not the substance behind the music.

honestly I don't think its an oldcel, newcel thing
I'm only 26, so I grew up mostly knowing what was hot in the 00s and experiencing that kind of music when it was first released. I still preferred alot of the music from the 90s although in the 00s artists were still dropping really good albums and I did like a lot of music in that era too.
I just can't get down with the whole mumble rap thing or imagine how anybody could like that garbage srs. Would rather listen to some 80s hits even though I wasn't even born in that era. But it's w/e it's what people are into so I just don't really care. But I digress. Carry on laddies.

Things change. Adapt or get left behind. We'd have an equal amount of complainers if artists kept pumping out 2002 era gangsta rap non-stop.
If anything, the popularity of the soundcloud/mumble generation is evidence for gender actually being a social construct. Notice how male rappers have redefined what "male attractiveness" is, and how masculinity has completely gone out the window. Y'all think they pussies, but their bitches clearly don't.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 2020's were the crossdressing era of rap.

Face it you dumb **** modern mainstream rap has become a brainless pile of garbage
There is no intelligent social discussion like there used to be . There are no advice about anything and all it does is push young males to be more feminine
Just look at the "gangster" scene nowdaysit's a bunch of guys wearing tight little clothes with man purses with pant hanging below their ass
Music labels don't allow you to rap about intellegent things and if you listen to what's on the radio , that makes you double stupid since the artist " knows" that whaybhe sings is corrupted garbage to program you to the liking of big corporations and you gobble it up , while he is faking about liking is ****
You sound like those paid shills that go on social to spam the new social programming

You don't need lyrics to do well. The turn of the century has proved that. You can mumble rap your way to billboard 100. Not hating on it, it's just a different time and is what's hot right now and what the people want. Just like whatever was hot in the 80s. 80s music was pretty damn good IMO, your opinion against mine, you don't like it, i do, you like mumble rap, it's not my cup of tea, whatever. 99% of music doesn't age well so it's unfair to criticize something 30 years ago on today's standards, it was great for its time and plenty of people enjoyed it (and some people still enjoy it). Just like how fashion comes and goes.lol as always you're delusional as fuk, i could easily name at least 20 good albums that have been released since that album came out
80s music sucks. the beats are absolute garbage. you need both lyrics and beats to do well. even then the lyrics back then weren't that good either
i still enjoy non lyrical stuff though

Only reason he's on the radio is because his music has been approved to be played on air by the higher powers that's want to bring down your iq and values
And as the the years passes by the quality of the product keeps diminishing
And lol Wayne was there 15 years before carried by birdman, the guy assigned to bring down the lyrical
Content away from important social issues or any kind of intelligent conversation ...so you get the picture
