She made bad life decisions to have 3 kids.
Oops.
No one in America should be poor - Vanessa is correct - and that has to do with the choices we make.
3 Simple Ways to not be Poor.
1) Learn a trade or get a STEM degree.
2) Learn to budget your finances and live _below_ your earnings. Maybe that means roommates; maybe that means living in your parents basement.
3) Don't have children until after you're 30. If you can't do the first two - you can't get to the 3rd.

Like many have said, it's her own fault for having 3 fuking kids. How about establishing your career and finances first and then having a child. I guess that must be too difficult for idiots.

First of all, if youre abnormal from normal society, thats a source of anxiety right there. So if your friends are all getting chit and youre not, anxiety and depression likely to form. Im not sure how much you can combat it, it is inherent. Anxiety is created by isolation.
Studies have shown at some point, poor children start to attribute them being poor as their own fault. Im guessing because after a while of not getting what they want, they start to think theyre not good enough. And also causes the same anxiety/ depression
I was tasked with the problem of, at 18, funding my own college education. My parents didnt do taxes so i couldnt get financial aid. Do you know how youd pay for college at this point?also, if youre actually poor good luck getting a loan with poor parents and likely poor credit
Your best bets imo are to get a scholarship (good luck getting one when you grow up in a tumultuous environment), or wait until youre 24 to apply for financial aid and youre independent
Or trade school
Or if you can, hustle on the internet
But i think depression and anxiety get to them early and thats why they resort to drastic things: stealing, drugs, etc.

Yeah it sucks there, but when you have no job skills you best take what you can get. Also, you don't get a car, cellphone, internet, TV's. Those are luxury goods for people with the means to pay for them. Not sure when all of that became a basic human right.

It is LITERALLY Good Will Hunting with the internet
We have UNLIMITED resources at our disposal for FREE
Now if Vanessa wanted to become a Network Admin/Systems Admin for example for free or maybe even for a couple hundred bucks for a certification, she can. Maybe she wants to get into Sales, that's cool there's online IT Sales certs from various vendors she could pursue. The list is endless...
There are SO many skills people can get now for free and it's just RETARDED that people aren't taking advantage of this
Anyway back to Studying

Proposing that our culture should be centered around making sure everyone “makes it” regardless of what decisions they have made in their life sounds appealing on the surface, but once you get into the nature of what drives humans in society it should become apparent that the model will never work.
There will always be people that have been dealt ****ty hands in life and most get trapped in it. That is vastly different then people that have been given decent hands and decide to never play them; it’s also pretty easy to distinguish the two. Helping the first case is a good goal to strive for. Helping the second is really a matter of opinion, but I think basic needs should be available, and opportunity to get back on track with hard work seems reasonable as well.
Unfortunately the system is currently set up for people to capitalize on both cases and profit off their ****ty circumstances, which is why people start proposing the other extreme.
The middle ground may not be exciting or enticing but it seems the most rationale.

People are not created equal. Some are more intelligent. Some are more athletic. Some make very poor decisions with their lives. Why should the rest of the country subsidize those who make terrible life decisions? In most cases they show no sign of changing their behaviors and would be a bad investment.

Th beauty of America is that everyone has an opportunity to climb the ladder. Now, not everyone will have a hunky dory time climbing up. There will be obstacles of various severity and duration. But opportunity always exists and those who are serious about succeeding will eventually get their just rewards. You cannot expect everything to come to you on a silver platter.

Vanessa should also learn money management, if her kids go to school hungry does she really need a smart phone. Escaping poverty isn't easy but some people focus their efforts and hard work at the wrong places, like working hard at McDonald for **** money instead of say going to trade school, or working gaining skills that lead to better income while using income from Mcdonald for support.

You can thank the Bolshevik communist Jews who infiltrated this country decades ago and poisoned the drinking well of the nuclear family for this cultural problem we face today.
**** Vanessa, should have kept her legs closed. Eventually, we're going to have to let people starve, or turn these subsidies into loans and force people to pay back what they borrowed from the government (AKA Tax revenue that was stolen from productive citizens at gun point)

Article describes a story of Vanessa, who supports her 3 kids. Quotes:
“for almost three years, she had belonged to the “working homeless,”a now-necessary phrase in today’s low-wage/high-rent society.”
“After juggling the kids and managing her diabetes, Vanessa is able to work 20 to 30 hours a week, which earns her around $1,200 a month.”
“If Vanessa clocked more hours, it would be difficult to keep up with all the ways she manages her family: doing the laundry, arranging dentist appointments, counseling the children about sex, studying their deep mysteries to extract their gifts and troubles. Yet our political leaders tend to refuse to view child care as work.”
“for people like Vanessa, the question is not, Can I land a job? (The answer is almost certainly, Yes, you can.) Instead the question is, What kinds of jobs are available to people without much education? By and large, the answer is: jobs that do not pay enough to live on.”
“Nobody in America should be poor, period. No single mother struggling to raise children on her own; no formerly incarcerated man who has served his time; no young heroin user struggling with addiction and pain; no retired bus driver whose pension was squandered; nobody. And if we respect hard work, then we should reward it, instead of deploying this value to shame the poor and justify our unconscionable and growing inequality. “I’ve worked hard to get where I am,” you might say. Well, sure. But Vanessa has worked hard to get where she is, too.”
Cliffs:
-NYT states nobody should be poor in America
-single mother of 3 struggles and is poor
-America failing its citizens?
Thoughts?

Thoughts?
Heroin addicts and obese mothers of 3 who work only 20 hours a week shouldnt be poor? Who should support them? Should I have to split my salary with an unemployed heroin addict when I work 60 hours a week so that he wont have to be poor? At that point what incentive do I have to work if I can live a good middle class life sitting on my ass doing nothing? Why wouldnt I just quit and watch TV all day?
